  1. We need to find a faster alternative to Chiasson IMO.
  2. Yeah, it sounds like they want Boeser back, so I'm guessing Garland is the odd man out there (unless they're just playing the media trying to juice Brock's trade value). Moving Garland for a "Marino" type would certainly make moving Myers easier and I agree, he seems like the odd man out of the big "core" pieces. Even though I think fans frequently, seriously undervalue Myers, he is a bit of a square peg in this lineup as he doesn't really fit with Hughes and limits OEL. Honestly, I think we see a better OEL with a cheaper, less well rounded but better defensively D like Lyubushkin (who would be my main UFA target on D). And he expires in another couple seasons anyway, so between the "square peg" issue and needing to replace him sooner than later anyway... Wonder if we could get maybe Faksa and a pick (2nd?, 3rd?) out of Dallas (Klingberg expiring) for Myers and send them back Dickenson (they seemed to like him and he fit well there)? Maybe we retain ~$500k-$1m on Myers to even out the cap. If they don't want to give up Faksa (or we're on his 5 team NTC) Maybe Dellandrea might be a realistic get? A right side of "Marino", Lyubushkin, Poolman/Schenn/Dermott/Burroughs/Juulsen/Woo is better defensively (more complimentary), cheaper and a better long term succession plan. Though Ideally, we'd still find our right side, first pair "Seabrook" for Hughes' "Keith" in the next couple years as well (draft?). A right side of "Seabrook", "Marino", Lyubushkin, Juulsen/Woo in a couple years looks a hell off a lot more contender worthy than what we're rolling out now. Beyond that, I think Miller either extends for something like $9x5 or $8.5x6, or gets moved (which I'm doubtful he accepts but *fingers crossed*). So that's potentially another big piece, but only if we can't work something out. Then we need to start adding in more "hard" skill to the F's and more speed throughout the lineup. As good as Chiasson was at helping pot some important goals down the stretch, you can't have all of him, Pearson, Boeser, Schenn etc on the regular roster. Particularly as even a lot of our faster guys aren't all-out burners. Are some quick? Agile? Sure. But our overall team speed needs to improve. Pearson and Boeser should be our only 2 remaining "slow" forwards. And Schenn should realistically be a 7th D guy and not in the regular rotation (admirable as his play has been). He should be an injury and "physical" opponent sub.
  3. In theory? Hell yes! In practice though, that's a lot harder to pull off.
  4. Best of luck to @Sergei Bobrovsky, may the best team win!
  5. Not particularly a fan of any. I'd be ok with $8.5x6 or even $9.5x5 but I don't know why Miller and his agent would leave an easy $5-$10m on the table to pay more taxes and have less of a chance to win.
  6. Belated congrats to Jack on his first NHl goal!!
  7. AAV doesn't matter to him it's about the total dollars. And that total is under $50m. I'd be REALLY (pleasantly) surprised if he signed something like that.
  8. If we're able to sign him to a 5 year deal, under $10m, I'd be ecstatic. Doubt that's realistic though.
  9. About as good as that reasonable extension.
  10. A team like Boston for example is in the last throws of their window. They've got some good younger guys like Mcavoy and Pasta but Bergeron is likely retiring soon, Marchand isn't getting younger etc. Miller could help them extend that window a few more years. Do you think they'd care much about his cap hit in 5+ years? They're rebuilding at that point anyway. We on the other hand will have Hughes and Petey in the meat of their primes in 5 years. Trying not to sound patronizing here but you do understand the difference right? Teams in different parts of their cycles, do different things. A team looking to win now/with a closing window, will quite frequently sacrifice future cap flexibility to do so. That's not really a position we're in right now.
  11. The $65m is certainly the high end of the possible. But it is possible some team overpays him if he gets to UFA. That said, I think he likely comes in closer to $60m +/- for "most" teams. Even if you subtract 1, $10m year from the beginning of the $68m deal Zib got, due to age, you're still looking at a $58m. That's still $9.66m Even your (IMO optimistic) 6x$9m AAV is still higher than I feel comfortable signing him for.
  12. Again, it's not about the term. It's about the overall dollars. Sure, he'll likely get 6 years other than a few outlier teams who *might* consider longer than that. He/his agent are still going to want that $55-$65m total cash. That's an AAV range of $9.166m - $10.83m at 6 years. Are we likely to get him closer to that +/- $9.2m? Maybe. But all of that range is higher than I feel comfortable retaining him at. Especially at still a year or two longer than is ideal. And he could easily get the low end of that range on the open market, with less taxes, and a better chance to win, elsewhere. The most we should be paying him IMO is $8.5x6 (which is still uncomfortably high and long, and I'd far prefer closer to $8) and is only $51m. I just don't see why he takes that cut here, to pay more in taxes and have less of a chance to win.
  13. Oh, I'm acutely aware of his age and don't need it explained. One of many reasons I'm wary. I think you're actually starting to come around to why this is a bad idea (even if you don't realize it), with posts like these And again, this is all kind of my point. I've been saying for months that Miller's going to be looking for +/-65M based on recent comparables. Yeah, maybe you can whittle that down to +/-$60m with negotiations, structure, "home town" discount etc. And maybe a contending AND low tax team, could get him down to $55 +/-. But that's the ball park, $55-$65m. And I in no way, shape or form think WE should give him a 7 or 8 year deal. Do I think another team would give him 7 (or maybe even 8 if they trade for him)? I certainly think it's possible, even if it's uncommon. Boston is in it's last gasps as a contending team, I think they'd happily give him 7 or 8 years to extend their window a few more years and keep the cap low. Long term consequences be damned. And at $9m+ (probably closer to $10m on a 6 year deal), I'm out. That's too much cap, too much risk (and a year or two longer than ideal anyway). As I've been saying for months, I have trouble seeing a deal that makes sense for the Canucks, that also makes sense for Miller. The kind of discount we need him to take to make sense to the Canucks, makes zero sense for Miller to accept. IMO the absolute most we should spend is $8.5mx6. And even that makes me UNCOMFORTABLE. That's only $51m. That's anywhere from a $4m-$14m discount to what he can likely get elsewhere. And the $4m discount is actually bigger because I'd wager that only gets signed with a low tax, contender where he keeps more of that extra $4m (and the other $51m) as well. I just don't see the overlap. Ergo...
  14. I don't want a 7 year deal either! 4-5 would be ideal, 6 a manageable compromise. Any longer than that it's FAR too risky IMO. But if people don't think a team like Boston or Nashville would offer him $8x7, aka $56m aka $5m more, AND less taxes, AND more cup competitive teams... Never mind other teams offering even more if he wants to go for every dollar. I mean fingers crossed, but I'm skeptical.
  15. Yeah, I don't think we should go longer than 6 years or higher than $8.5m. Unfortunately, that's only $51m and I think he could easily get $5-10... maybe even closer to $15m more than that on the open market. And even the low end, $5m more, is probably on a contending, low tax team. Under no circumstances should we be signing him to 8 years. I hope he loves playing here THAT much... But I'm doubtful. Encouraging words yesterday, or not.
  16. Nope. There's a reason it's a key topic of discussion. I won't spoil it for you though lol
  17. I'd love 4-5 years but that AAV gets real ugly, real quick. 6 is probably the compromise that still gets him money and security etc and keeps the AAV somewhat sane, but minimizes age related decline risk on the clubs end (though those last couple years could get UGLY). Agree though, any longer than 6 years and I'm out!
  18. Cap matters to managment/us more. Total dollars are all players/agents care about.
  19. It's certainly promising/encouraging words that a team friendly deal might get worked out. But it will come down to putting his money where his mouth is.
  20. While I agree Myers is underrated around here, there is a world where it could make sense. Trade one of Boeser/Garland for a guy like Marino and sign a cheaper, younger, better defensively (if less well rounded), guy like Lyubushkin in the summer and it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. We might even improve overall... While shaving cap. We need to start planning for post-Myers sooner than later anyway. This again Is this where you tell me your not spamming the board with "moving Miller =rebuild" again?
  21. While that certainly sucks to some degree, should that happen... Jiricek please.
