[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
aGENT replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Nope. We were talking about one player and their ~5th overall pick. -

And guys like Chychrun and McAvoy have been picked mid first too. Just have to be the team to find them -

Whether we squeak in to the playoffs or not, the right thing to do, is the right thing to do. Sound management doesn't twist in the wind at the whim of short term results like CDC. Signing a 30 year old to a big, long term contract isn't a great idea no matter where we land. -

Philly has just as much good young talent as we do. Maybe more actually. They've clearly got some sort of chemistry or other issue and have massively underperformed the last couple years but if their management could push the right buttons this offseason, there's no reason they couldn't be back in the playoffs next year. Maybe they sell Miller on being part of that turnaround with a bigger pay cheque than we're offering? Who knows? We're all just spit balling here, it's not like we've got access to Philly management or Miller's thoughts bro... -

It would be under the understanding it's basically a new deal under the trade team. I'm not suggesting they do it underhanded. Been done before, but usually at the TDL so the buying team can get that 8th contract year. Teams also frequently let the trading team talk to the agent ahead of the trade and basically get a a deal worked out that's sent in, right after the trade. -

Who says he wouldn't get trade protection? -

1 - Kadri isn't Miller. 2 - Could ould easily negotiate it to be a sign and trade, permission to talk to agent etc. -

I'd be thrilled if we found one more to handle even just one of those guys -

They have a tonne of pieces I'd happily take. Provorov, Sanheim, Konecny, Farabee, Frost, their high first... -

I actually wouldn't put it past Philly to move out a couple guys and sign both Kadri AND trade for Miller. -

Yeah, just trying to think of who we might buyout and they seemed the most obvious. Preferably we could move them like we did with Hamonic but barring that, waiving, retaining or simply playing them and hoping they recover past value are all options. -

I like @JM_'s Philly idea. A Konecny/Provorov/Sanheim and their 5th OA would be a good return and Philly might be desperate enough to pull out of the funk they've been in the last couple years. Nope. D peak later, last longer and I have little issue with OEL. I think his end of season performance here is closer to what we see moving forward, now that he's comfortable/adapted, and I'd wager his contract is only a minor annoyance in the last year, maybe two. Miller's contract that would take him from 1-3 years older, depending on term, on forwards to tend to regress 2 years earlier, and harder has all sorts of "albatross" warning signs in comparison. I think a Dickinson buyout isn't too painful. Perhaps Poolman as well, if we can't find takers like Ottawa with Hamonic that is. So there's a couple potentials. Otherwise, just because Demko is the only "safe" one, doesn't mean it's likely we'll be moving guys like Petey, Hughes or Horvat. Sure, if someone wants to overpay, we'll look at it but I'd imagine the guys we'd all consider to be good "building blocks", would be hard pressed to be moved. But as I eluded to last page in my discussion with Baggins, this team, as constructed, is not a contender and won't be a contender in a couple years, without some sizeable moves. We're overly reliant on Demko, lack size, grit and quality PK'ers (F and D), need a quality 3C and our RD is poorly constructed with impending succession issues very soon. This was never going to be just tinkering around the margins. -

I'm ok with "near future". They should be able to contribute to the team now, if potentially at a slight downgrade to the team in the present from the players moved out. But in a couple years and beyond (when our contention window hopefully opens) if by their own development, fit, and/or the cap they free up, we should be a better team. -

Yeah, I'm nowhere near a rebuild bandwagon. Moves for pure, years away futures at this point is silly, agreed. (Though there could be a few as parts of bigger deals). And none of the comments made by new management seem to suggest that as their game plan, so I don't think either of us have to worry But this team does need some fairly serious surgery in the areas I noted. Those aren't going to be small moves and tinkering around the margins. There's big changes coming to become that contender we're building towards. -

Feel like Jersey gets Boeser/Garland too cheap. Also feel like Garland has the same value as Marino and Miller is with more than Kapanen, 5th OA and Walsh. Let alone giving up our mid first as well. Penguins also come up a little shy as well IMO. IMO NJD needs to pay more/us less and the Penguins need a bit more as well. -
Well if the younger, faster, less cap mantra really is a thing... Step one, I don't sign the 30 year old to a bloated retirement contract, years before our contention window. Discounted extension, or I move him for younger, faster, lower cap pieces. I also look at moving one of Boeser/Garland for other pieces (preferably a young RHD like Marino) They already did another thing I would have had on my list, and moved Hamonic (to my pleasant surprise). Depending on whether we get a good young RHD back for Miller or not, on top of someone like Marino, I'd entertain moving Myers as well and marvel at our added cap space. Perhaps replacing him with a less expensive (but better defensively) Lyubushkin. Beyond that, yeah we need to continue to draft well. I'm also hopeful they'll bring some of their Pittsburgh expertise of signing and developing undrafted players to viable NHL players. If we do manage to clear the cap I'd like us to, I'd look to take advantage of moves like the Toews to COL for a 2nd or Miller for a 1st moves in the next year or two as well, to help push is over the top. Edit: And I'd use some of that cap space to sign one or two of Paul/Tierney and Sturm. Maybe bring back Richardson as 12th/13th F.

If they're only willing to give up wingers, I'd LOVE Farabee if we could get him!!! Doubt he's available though I'll have a look at the trade
