  1. I wouldn't complain as it certainly clears cap and he's a RHD and you never know....but he's pretty "meh". Hamhius-lite maybe but I don't think he has Dan's 1st pair upside. There's a reason NSH has potentially "soured" on him. He doesn't really move the needle IMO.
  2. If we'd done the right thing and moved Miller last spring for the rumored Chytil, Lundqvist and 1st, we'd have been ahead of the "asset management" game on that outgoing 1st. People complain about moving out firsts but it can be the right move if you follow it up with more right moves. We didn't.
  3. I'd rather we take back a ~$3m player, perhaps even one we have greater need for (middle 6, 2 way guy with speed who can kill penalties/defend). Even better if they expire sooner and give us options. A guy like Kapanen for instance, would be a great fit for a deal like that. Good speed, 2 way ability, $3.2m hit that expires one year sooner. And given how far his stock has fallen and how much of a need Boeser could fill there, we likely get a decent pick/prospect back as well.
  4. COL - Places Trevor Moore on IR. COL - Recalls Marc McLaughlin @canuck2xtreme @Mike Vanderhoek
  5. It would mean fully comitting to finding/trading for another goalie. Silovs is a couple years away from maybe being a backup.
  6. How much is the cap supposed to go up 2 years from now? How many more contracts will have ticked off the books 2 years from now? I don't buy that his expiring $5.5m in two years won't be moveable or valuable. An actual NHL track record in the league and 2 additional years of cap raises/contracts coming off counters any risk of slight stat regression and to his trade value. It's a good deal, so long as they follow it up with moving some of Horvat/Miller/Boeser/Garland.
  7. Probably...just spit ball'n. Theoretically two top 10 picks in a deep draft is not a bad start though.
  8. Yeah, like I said, I wouldn't accept top 10 protected. I'd counter with lotto protected. Our (currently) 6th + their (currently) 10th.
  9. Further to that...wonder if getting DET's 1st + our 1st...might be the start of a package to get Bedard....
  10. That's what I'm saying. Lottery protected...as in if they win one of the lotto picks...we get say both their '23 2nds and their '24 1st. If not, we get there ~7th OA or whatever this year.
  11. Make that lotto protected and it's not an awful offer.
  12. The real problem was not replacing him with a younger, healthier replacement. Could have done that this summer if we'd actually had the cap space by moving/not extending any of Miller/Boeser/Garland...
  13. I don't think we'll set the world on fire by any means, and no, I don't expect us to have the roster reconstruction "finished" or remotely be a contender (there's simply too much to fix in one offseason). But I think if they can continue to get "wrong" pieces out (Garland, Boeser and Myers specifically) and keep trickling in "right player" replacements (like they did with Mik, Kuz, Bear) and to continuing coaching the team to play more of a winning brand of hockey, while adding a high pick this draft that may be able to step right on to the roster... I think that team isn't bottom 5.
  14. Next year being (bottom 5) bad isn't written in stone. A lot will depend on what they do this TDL/summer, who we get in the draft etc.
  15. I'd be thrilled if we did...so long as it's under $7.5 and they followed it up by moving out Miller, Boeser and Garland.
  16. I doubt they try to nickel and dime him. I think they get this "build" centres around him. I'd imagine they like start around $9.5 and settles somewhere around $10.
  17. Boeser + Schenn for Dellandrea, Hakanpaa, Khudobin and 2nd? I think that works with their cap space...
  18. You are arguing with me, and read what I wrote clearly. Mid season, with a bunch of injuries, teams may currently be playing with 7D due to a lack of viable bodies and/or cap. But that's not how most teams build season starting rosters. They run 13f and 8D overwhelmingly, unless they can't.
  19. We need a, at least, 2nd pair capable D/prospect coming back from one of our pieces (likely Horvat). Livingstone would be a nice get as well, as you pointed out. We're likely going to have to sign a short term UFA to fill the gap until we find a long term Hughes partner. Could bring Schenn back or target guys like Jensen or Mayfield as moderate cost/short term options (I was hoping Zub would be available ) Something like: Hughes, Schenn/Jensen/Mayfield OEL, "Trade" Dermott, Bear Burroughs, Livingstone etc.. Would be an improvement in makeup from what we're icing this year, and should require less cap as well. It doesn't fix the long term Hughes partner/make the team a contender issue, but it moves us closer and gives the D core a more cohesive makeup that can actually play a winning style of hockey.
  20. If he helps us, even a little, to extend Petey this summer, it will be more than worth it.
