[Signing] Canucks re-sign Andrei Kuzmenko
aGENT replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
No, it isn't. A bunch of teams may have injuries right now (and a lack of bodies and/or cap space to accommodate replacements) but when building out starting rosters in the fall, most teams go 13F, 8 D. -

May very well. But then we're getting back in to bringing back the exact same team that's looked like shite, not addressing the prospect pool, etc, etc. Nope. -

I didn't say a "bad" contract, I said there will be cap coming back. Which there will, just as you outlined. -

If Bo wants $8m, I move him. AKA, he's likely gone. So you're plans mean squat But yes, I hope we move two of Horvat/Miller/Boeser/Garland. Already said as much. And Myers in the summer/next TDL. We're not going to carry 7D, so no we won't. We're also likely taking some sort of cap back in any of Horvat/Miller/Boeser/Garland (and possibly/likely Myers). -

We likely aren't moving Myers until the summer, at the earliest. That's too late to try to sign Bo. He needs to be signed or traded by the TDL. I also wouldn't give Bo $8m. My max would be $7.5 and that wouldn't be max term (prob 5-6 years), or with trade clauses. And Schenn doesn't give us $10m as you need to spend ~$1m minimum just to replace him. Same largely goes for Boeser/Myers. You're only adding, at best, $6m as you need to replace them as well. -

I just hope, unlike after the Miller extension, that we actually end up moving a couple of Horvat/Miller/Boeser/Garland, to accommodate this move. That's a solid deal for Kuz, may help in extending Pettersson this summer, and we can still sell him for assets in two years (or sooner) if it works for us/someone wants to offer the moon for him. No reason he can't be part of the solution. Now we just need to move some of the guys who aren't. -

Too be fair, he was crucified (somewhat rightly) for overpaying to get those guys here He also seemed to have little concept on how to actually get cohesive pieces, to actually get the most out of players. -
Staal isn't going anywhere and wet don't want him. I'd certainly take Drury off their hands though. Drury, Morrow and Nikishin. Yes please.

Marino would have dashed plans for a stealth tank? That's all I got -

And the cap to get Marino for Rathbone +... -
I hear ya...but we still need scoring forwards and with Horvat already appearing on the way out and Boeser rumoured to be as well (and who knows with Miller or Garland), keeping a productive Kuz, who fits well with Petey (and as I noted may help convince him to extend this summer) is hardly the end of the world. And as I said, we can still move him in 2 years. And sure his shooting % likely drops, but with (hopefully) a better team around him in the next couple years, I think he can maintain solid (if slightly lower) production. Agree on the winger depth, I'd just rather we move Horvat plus one or two of Boeser, Garland and Miller, IF we can sign Kuz for reasonable money/term. And $5-something for 2 years is quite reasonable. That said, if someone comes a call'n and offers the moon... I'm not opposed to getting a haul for him either.

Even with a league min contract replacing him, we actually lose a minimum of $83k in cap by buying him out. It only gets worse the more expensive his replacement is. We'd be better off waiving him. Or retaining $1-2m, or just riding it out until the TDL, or literally ANYTHING else It's mind boggling that people are still posting this as a supposed "reasonable" proposed plan. Seriously how does anyone think that 1- it's a good idea, or that 2- any management would be dense enough to do it?

Who would replace Tyler Myers if he is traded/bought out?

No, no sweetener. Myers at $4-5m cap and only $666k-$833k of actual salary, has trade value. Even if his trade value might be higher at the TDL...if we can leverage that cap space in to this summer's "Marino" or a 3C etc for cheap, it's worth losing that extra trade value IMO. -

I'm fine if they can manage to move him this summer after his bonus is paid as well. Even if we retain $1-2m and clear $4-5m. That cap and roster space could open up opportunity that won't be available without it that like counter anything you gain by waiting until the TDL. -

His contract is also buyout proof, even more than OEL's. His cap hit next year would be $5,333,334, once you add in a replacement player at even minimum $750k, you're looking at a net loss of a minimum of $83k of cap. Seriously how does anyone think that 1- it's a good idea, or that 2- any management would be dense enough to do it? -

Both are true at the same time. He's both a top 4 D (big, right handed, mobile, and can be offensive ((and physical)) at times) like you said, and he's also an extremely poor fit on this roster, with his $6m cap taking up money and a roster spot that we could use to better effect and address our top 4. Our problem is that all 3 of our top 4 D, are offensive minded (to varying degrees and respective skill sets) D who all want the puck and would do better with a defensive minded D partner. Which we have exactly one of in Schenn (who would be 3rd pair/spare on a good team). It's a bit of an ill fitting poop-show. We don't have an overwhelming lack of talent, we just have an overwhelmingly bad mix (and on top of that a lack of two way forwards, and puck support from them...and the non existent team structure under previous coaching). Generally, we've basically got this set up to not remotely get the most out of anyone. Hence the results. A lot likely depends on if we get a D back in trade from any of Horvat, Schenn, Kuz, Miller etc. I was hoping Zub was going to make it to UFA...oh well. Either of Jensen or Mayfield would be good short term UFA solutions but this is not likely something that gets solved, particularly long term, overnight. This just in, our D, and it's succession (Schenn/Myers) is a MAJOR problem Almost like certain posters have been screaming this for a couple years... IMO we have: Hughes, ____ OEL, ____ Dermott, Bear Burroughs Bringing Schenn (if interested and reasonable terms) back temporarily fills one of those holes. And yes, Bear can "technically" move up to play with OEL. And then we just need a 3rd pair RD (Livingstone? a prospect?, UFA?) if we don't manage a 2nd pair D in trade/UFA. But again, that's far from "ideal" (though likely a better mix of skill sets than what we have now). Schenn and Bear are both better 3rd pair D than top 4 though. Getting a more compatible than Myers, top 4 D in trade would go a LONG way to improving things though. No, buying out OEL...it's just such a ridiculously bad plan with 8 years of cap, to pay a perfectly capable top 4 D to not play for you. Non-starter. -
