Provorov declines pre-game pride night skate

If I owned the Flyers, he would have been sat without pay and his pay donated to inclusive sport charities. -

FYI, the discussion isn't about how long bigotry takes to change in less liberal cultures around the world. The discussion is that his publicly, actively choosing to not participate in this event, in the NHL, in North America, is not particularly welcome behavior, and is rightly being challenged for those actions. -

The tap dancing... first it was his religion, now it's his culture. No, folks...he's rightfully getting called out for being an intolerant (just for you @CanucksJay ) bigot. Religion and culture have nothing to do with it. -

Rather have Roy, Korczak and their 1st. Works better for them for cap and is an easy C for C roster swap. We get a 25 year old RH'd 3C, locked up, a young RHD and a pick If they need the cap (they're DEEP in LTIR and I'm not spread sheeting that out ) we could also retain $1-1.5m for an additional pick/prospect. -

He called being gay a "choice" (it's not) and his very public decision to actively not participate in a simple LGBTQ+ equality/tolerance/inclusivity (ie: nothing to do with religion) event, is in fact defacto support of the opposite. It's not neutral. It's actively making a point of being unsupportive. I think it's hilarious people keep bringing up "attacking him for his religion". I've seen very few if anyone do so. I haven't ever even brought up religion once in this topic other than responding to people's posts about it. He's not being "attacked" (actually challenged) for his religion, he's being challenged for his bigoted views. -

His actions are condoning intolerance towards LGBTQ+ people. So perhaps not concentration camps but yes, it is condoning inequality, intolerance and mistreatment of them. I understand it just fine, thanks. -

That's not actually what I said. We should be intolerant of dangerous, damaging, hateful ideas. Or are you suggesting we should we just be hunky dorie and tolerant of Nazis, genocidal wars in Rwanda, apartheid, intolerance towards LGBTQ+, misogyny, etc, etc... Freedom is not freedom from consequences for harmful actions. -

It's, at best, condoning of intolerance. If you don't see that, that's a you problem. His actions were certainly not neutral. -

You're still missing the point. What "beliefs" of Provorov's am I being "intolerant" of? What does his not willing to participate in an event about equality and inclusivity say about his beliefs? This is not about religion or wearing articles of clothing. It's about him making a statement, through his actions, that he doesn't support equality, intolerance and inclusivity. Which is the same as promoting intolerance. Full stop. And no, promoting intolerance is not something we should tolerate. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
aGENT replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Same. And yes Miller's contract isn't bad (good even!), just a poor fit with our timeline. I'm hopeful but not optimistic that we move him before his NMC kicks in. If we're moving Bo, IMO there's little reason to retain Miller. We'll be back filling the roster, 2C etc for the scant remaining time of his productive years and be left with an aging, expensive anchor just as we're trying to compete. Agreed. And yes it would be major. But the assets and cap coming back (not to mention a likely higher pick this year, minus their contributions) should help set us up for an ACTUAL contention window. I think this is one of many reasons Tocchet was brought in now vs end of season. He's going to help management sort the wheat from the chaff. And yes, the returns will make it break this. -

With all that money tied up, how do you propose we pay for that 3C? Improve the defense? -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
aGENT replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
We should not be paying Bo $8.5m based on a career/contract year and unsustainable shooting percentage. His value is in the $7-$7.5m range (possibly $6.5-$7 with a home town discount-which were not likely getting anymore, trade clause etc). Which is still more than we've reportedly offered. If he won't sign for that that vicinity, we're better off with the trade assets. And I hope we move Miller as well. -

Make no mistake. This has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with equality and intolerance. You guys are doing mental back flips to avoid the obvious while hiding behind religion. And no, we shouldn't be tolerant of intolerance. -
Yup, I hope this is all about instilling playing the right way. If Miller lobs a pizza up the middle with no back check...bench his ass for a bit. If D aren't staying in position...bench. Forwards aren't supporting the puck. Bench. I don't care if we're down a goal or lose the game because someone "talented" is sitting. And yes, at this point, I doubt our draft position changes much. But still all the more reason to start moving out guys like Horvat, Kuz, Shenn if they aren't extending. That's where I'm at. Not saying that this was handled well or that the roster isn't also an issue (IT IS). Yes it sucks that a really nice guy got fired (which was not a surprise, since like last spring management has been telegraphing what they want from coaching) and that the media found out about his replacement a couple weeks earlier and helped make a circus out of it, before the team was ready to announce it. People acting like this never happens... But it happens ALL the time. Coaches get fired, with mid season replacements already lined up, a lot. Bruce even had an anecdote about him doing just that to Carlyle in ANA in his Athletic interview! It just usually isn't media fed circus -fied for two weeks ahead to an already raw, high strung fanbase in the midst of a disappointing, crap season.

It definitely is Just happens that a certain element of the population seems to find any sort of rainbow, quite triggering -
Yup, while I do believe more structured, disciplined play would have got more out of this existing group, we still very much have massive holes and ill fitting, redundant, not defensively strong players that need to be fixed by management. We need at least a couple more "Mikheyev's" in our top 9, a 3C and two top 4 RHD, and one 3LD that play a defensive brand of hockey. And if we do indeed lose Horvat (as it appears we will), you can add a 2C to that list.

I think this will be more about process, structure, "playing the right way", commitment, practice habits and evaluation than actually winning games. The remainder of this season anyway. Yup. Show them how they will be expected to play the rest of this year and moving forward to future seasons, and weed out the guys who can't/won't play to win.
