  1. Religious beliefs have diddly squat to do with recognizing/supporting equal rights for LGBTQ+ people. Nobody asked him to marry a LGBTQ+ person in a Russian Orthodox church. They asked him to wear a coloured jersey for a few minutes to support their equality, tolerance and inclusiveness. By choosing not to do so, it is at best defacto support of intolerance towards them. At worst, it's well... much worse. He certainly has the "freedom" to do so. But everyone else equally has the freedom to let him know that those actions are intolerant, hateful and not particularly welcome in a modern hockey environment that's attempting to promote hockey for ALL.
  2. Horvat is not an asset you spend to get Foote. He's a bottom pair D with maybe #4-#5 tweener upside. Different players, but he's similar level to a guy like Bear, whom we paid very little for, with salary retention. 3rd pair D are easy and cheap to sign, trade for or even occasionally, snag off waivers. Now if you can get him for say Schenn or similar... Sure. Take a flyer on him as a young, solid, physical, depth defensive D. But for Horvat.... Not as a main piece, that's for sure.
  3. Meh, whole lot of hurt feelings and hyperbole right now. I'm more interested to see what they do with the team than if they rub folks the wrong way. That said, they have some SERIOUS work to do. Some of which they created themselves.
  4. Miller or OEL? They added Lindholm in between and have no need for OEL anymore. Miller perhaps but his 4 years of NMC kicks in July 1, so it would have to be before that...
  5. Horvat + Schenn + one of our 2 4ths for Wright, Borgen and their late 1st (basically 2nd) or Nelson
  6. CAR too. Maybe SEA. Never mind the numerous teams who could make room if needed, as teams do every year.
  7. Yup. And even then I'm not remotely expecting immediate, positive results. This roster, as constructed, will continue to struggle IMO. Particularly as we won't be attempting to run and gun away our mistakes (which probably lead to more wins than we've deserved this year, uncommon as they were).
  8. Pretty much where I am. Love Bruce as a person but he wasn't coaching this team to play with structure or puck support, regardless of what I may think of the roster. He had to go. If Tocchet and Co. can come in and get them to do so/help sort out the guys who won't, I'll set aside how I feel about him personally, and cheer on the team and their improved play.
  9. I'll keep my fingers crossed... But probably. And like they talking heads said in the 2nd intermission, if Miller is going to be here, the Canucks need to put him in the best position to succeed. (Same goes for OEL).
  10. Might give a good indication as to which guys have the gold country club cards. Help them decide which guys to keep and build around vs who's here collecting pay cheques.
  11. Yup. And he already hits and blocks shots etc decently well. But he could play "meaner". If we can get him for an expiring Schenn, he's a solid gamble. I just don't want to keep seeing "Horvat for" or even some of the "Hoglander for" proposals I've seen. He's unlikely to have a ceiling worth giving up those kinds of assets for. Solid 3rd pair D are easy to trade for, sign as UFA's or even occasionally, claim on waivers. Look at what we paid for Bear, with retention.
  12. Probably some but we're talking maybe borderline 2nd pair, #4-#5 tweener upside IMO. Basically another Ethan Bear/Poolman level player (obviously different play styles). Capable of playing 2nd pair, but you're probably a better team if they're on your 3rd pair. Like I said, happy to take a flyer for Schenn or similar but otherwise... Meh
  13. For Schenn or similar perhaps. He's a 3rd pair RHD, who aren't exactly hard to find/we aren't lacking. He doesn't look like he's a long term solution in our top 4 and shouldn't be a major piece in a Horvat deal IMO.
  14. Would be pretty hilarious if Tocchet is brought in to finish the season and get OEL to waive, only to be replaced by a real coach in the summer, after OEL is gone
  15. We'll see. I'm not big fan of Tocchet, if he is indeed hired (wouldn't have been my choice), but I'll give him some rope to either hang himself with, or pull himself out of the hole we all perceive him to be in. Time will tell.
  16. A new coach does give the players time to learn new systems and what to expect next year (and make mistakes doing so), with next to zero pressure to win "RIGHT NOW". .
