[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
aGENT replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Say what? He doesn't need to "say" anything. He's refusing to participate in pride related activities based on "religious grounds". At best, it's condoning of homophobia, at worst.... Let's not dress this up. It's LGBTQ+-phobic behavior and hiding behind religious beliefs doesn't change that. He has the freedom and religious "rights" to do so. We equally have the freedom to condemn him for his hateful, ignorant, idiocy. -

Does wearing a turban on a motorcycle also condone fear, hate and ignorance against LGBTQ+ people? -

The thing with JK is that there's 2C upside there. And as I noted above, the only way I make that deal is with corresponding value coming back to offset the obvious risk that he doesn't get there. Adding JK is ok, if we get a couple other valuable pieces included that will be on low dollar ELC's to offset his risk. Without those pieces though, I agree, no thanks. With them, there's a package that makes sense IMO. The added value simply needs to be there. -

Have to add another piece for taking on the risk of JK's contract. Right now he's at best a 3C with a large hit, with term and no guarantees he's going to ever be more than that. Add Seeley or similar and that's a rough outline of a deal IMO. -

Everyone has the right to be as ignorant and hateful as they like (within the law), correct. The rest of us are also equally free to denounce their hate and ignorance. Yay freedom! It's also certainly not something any reasonable person should "respect" though. "True to himself" or not. Glad I traded that douchenozzle off my fantasy team last year. -

Need to add another piece for the taking on JK's long deal IMO. Add Seeley and you got a deal. -

Welp... We didn't need another left D anyway... Lol -
Yup...fully expect to be: Here's hoping we're wrong.

Honestly I don't think it was even sub par players half the time. For example, Gagner's doing just fine in WPG, Gudbranson was a solid D when properly partnered and positioned in CAL, Dickinson seems to be doing fine in CHI...etc, etc... So I don't think it was even entirely bad pro scouting (though there was certainly some of that too). Benning seemingly had a MAJOR blind spot however of putting complementary, cohesive pieces together to actually form a TEAM. Something that's greater than the sum of it's parts.
-
Same answer I gave yesterday. Just because previous management sucked at retooling, doesn't mean new management will as well. Plenty of teams have/are retooling around existing cores successfully. Look at the Rangers or Kings. Better execution should spell better results. Now they just need to nail the execution part. I've liked most of their additions (Kuz, Mik, Bear etc) but I question the Miller extension and cap management thus far. Their pro scouting does seem better than the last group. And I feel like they have a better understanding on how to build out a cohesive, complementary roster... But the proof will definitely be in the pudding, starting this TDL. Tldr: More Toews, less Veys.
-
Not to some degree, it's a HUGE part of why this roster is underperforming. Too many redundant "soft skill" wingers, not enough 2 way, "hard to play against" forwards, lack of 2 way 3C, and a mish mash of redundant, similar skill set D in our top 4 (and only 3 of them). Better coaching/systems are not fixing all of that. Some might be help cover up a bit of those warts, but they're still there and we're not remotely contending with those issues. New coach/systems or otherwise. This roster needs pretty serious surgery. I don't really care what Benning would have done at this point. And you and I both know we agree Miller should have been moved.
-
Mmmm... I'd definitely add poor roster construction/fit/chemistry etc to that list. I'll agree that we don't have a massive talent deficit overall. But the way that talent works together, the redundant wingers, ill fitting D, lack of two way players etc... The roster needs a fair bit of retooling as well.
-
I mean Toews for 2 2nds worked out pretty well for COL. There's numerous examples of guys going on to good careers with new opportunity/change of scenery etc. Vegas was almost an entire team built on them! As I said, hopefully better management, scouting etc can find more "Toews" and less "Veys".

Recall - The Avs recall Givani Smith from the Springs. @canuck2xtreme

Ugggh... The Avs would like to place Helm back on IR... @canuck2xtreme

Devil's advocate here... "Everybody" keeps saying something like this, but just because a different group of managers did this particular game plan poorly in the past, does not mean new managers will also do a similar game plan poorly. And numerous teams have in fact "retooled" around existing cores successfully, Rangers, LA etc. Retools don't inherently have to fail, just because our previous one did. At the very least, based on what I've seen, I've got more confidence in new managements ability to pro scout and perhaps more importantly, see the types/fit of pieces the roster needs, to improve. All of Kuz, Mik, Bear etc have been good additions, and Mik especially is EXACTLY what this roster needs more of at F. Now this certainly may not happen as Bo, Kuz etc are big question marks re: retaining them at the moment, but assuming you can retain the good pieces over the next couple years, we could do a lot worse than a retool around: Mik, EP, Kuz *Miller(?), Horvat, ____ Podz, ____, Hoglander Hughes, ____ OEL, ____ ____, Bear Demko (*I'd still personally prefer Miller moved... but we'll see what happens). We have plenty of prospects (including Hogs/Podz) that can fill out the wings in our bottom 9 over the next couple years. We need a GOOD 3C from somewhere. We need some solid, defense first, good skating D to play in the top 4, right side and to find/develop a younger "left handed Schenn" for our 3LD. That's mission hard, not mission impossible IMO.

(Rumour). Jake Livingstone D - NCAA - NHL Availability

Might still be Johansen but it will be interesting to see how both develop moving forward. And we can certainly use a few more bullets in that gun. -
Damn RIP Legend.

(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller
aGENT replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
As a team that has trouble actually retaining talent, they might actually highly value that he's got term. It is also close to his home town/family. Not sure he's a a huge need on their roster (they could use a legit C) or fits their timeline though (they're in a not dissimilar phase to us). Certainly not a horrible idea though. -
Not really. Marino was readily available this summer for a middling prospect ana 3rd and is signed to a $4.4m deal with term. Would have made a great OEL partner (sound defensively, good skater) if we hadn't overcommitted to too many wingers. They're actually one of the easier top 4 D to find and cheapest to contract. We also let one walk a few years ago who's under contract in CAL for $4.5.

Happy to get Nuke locked in for the foreseeable future, thanks Mike! Now he just needs to get healthy! Our entrant to the CDC all-name team But seriously, looks like a promising young forward that we're happy to add to our development team!
