My entire point was that we were in no desperate need to sell Hansen for the peanuts half of CDC wanted to. There was no need or urgency to dump him for a late 2nd in a weak draft or equivalent.
Goldobin, a late first in a strong draft, is not peanuts. Yay. Plus we got a nice conditional 4th that could become another late 1st. Not peanuts again. Yay.
This has already been covered ad nauseum on here. Past the top 3, the next 4 players were all basically ranked 'equal' and would go in the order determined by individual teams evaluation.
Even if we already knew what we had in Try and Stecher, we still would have drafted OJ.
Y'all can believe in whatever fairy tales help you sleep at night though...
If anything, drafting Tkachuck would have been 'drafting for need'. Drafting Juolevi was BPA and drafting for the future vs the present ('need').
If we do draft another D (as BPA), we can always trade an excess D for a forward later. And likely get far more value for them.
It sounds like he spent his summer pumping iron and getting 'swole' instead of working on cardio and lean muscle. Hopefully he's been set straight this season on how he needs to actually work out, train and eat to be a pro hockey player.
So it's not that he wasn't working out...he was just doing ENTIRELY the wrong things.
I don't know. I'm not sure we re-sign them after next year. We'll see...
Eriksson and Landeskog are completely different players. GL's also only 24. I don't know why you wouldn't want him on the team, Eriksson or otherwise.
If it's simply because he's Swedish, that couldn't be more ignorant or reductive. Not wanting a really, REALLY good, young, hard to play against winger on your team because of his country of origin is remarkably stupid and short sighted.
Sedins will be gone next year, Edler likely the year after. Gudbranson will be back next year as well as likely adding Boeser (Yank).
Besides, Landekog has a lot more 'Forsberg' in him than any of our present Swedes. And you better believe I'd take that on my team any day, all day.
If the Hutton rumours were turn out true and we were to land say Landeskog, I think Eriksson would do well on that line.
Next year...
Landy, Horvat, Eriksson
Sedin, Sedin, Granlund
Hansen, Sutter, Boeser
I'm 'hoping' we lose Gaunce in the ED (not because I want to see him gone but because that will mean we've made moves to better limit our ED exposure).
I second Gaudette in Utica. I doubt we see Boeser down there for more than short stints (if it all) but anything's possible. Wouldn't mind seeing Gaudette with Virtanen though with the progress I'm assuming/hoping he makes the rest of this season/summer.
That is one of the main things he needs to get away from, not do more of, if he's to develop in to an actual NHL player though.
He's always been able to use his size, speed and shot to half-ass his way to success. He can't do that in the NHL.
He needs to learn to WORK at the pro level and THEN use those natural abilities to compliment that work. Not continue to coast and rely on them.
