  1. This just in: hockey players get hurt/injured a lot.

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

Barring him absolutely forcing his way on to the NHL roster next year with his dominant play, I actually kind of hope they keep in in Utica next year as well and have him available as 1st forward call up. Virtanen will be fine IMO. Power forwards don't tend to blossom until around 24 years old. He's scored 4 goals in his last 5 games in Utica, he just needs to keep learning to play against men and get reps in until it becomes second nature. He'll be fine IMO but it's going to be a few years before we even start to see what he can really bring at this level. Patience.
  4. Yup, away from the fish bowl media, away from an NHL salary and notoriety and the temptation to the ego those things can fuel. Just playing hockey and actually having time to learn and practice. I wish we could have sent him to Utica last year.
  5. Demko's better than Gaunce too

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

I'd be fine with sending him down to get more minutes and as you say, play a larger role. Honestly, Chaput could largely do what he's doing at this level but he's not performing poorly, he just doesn't need to be up here either.

    Brendan Gaunce | C/LW

Gaunce is doing just fine. He's a future bottom 6 C, maybe bottom 9 W in his first year at this level. I'm not sure what people were expecting him to come in and do? Put up 40+ points or something?
  8. This has been explained before but it's not that there's no 'development' happening in the NHL. Clearly players continue to improve and 'develop' in the NHL. But they have to meet a certain minimal threshold for development. They have to have been developed in to bonafide NHL players to play at this level. Not all players develop at the same pace. Jake's not there yet. Most of the kids on ARZ/TOR are. And even then, you've got Nylander demoted to 4th line and Tippett pissed in ARZ as Goose mentioned. It's not all roses and lollipops. And neither team's's record is exactly a shining beacon of light on 'how to do things'. So again, what exactly is your question?
  9. Nobody's claiming WD is the world's greatest coach but I think you overestimate how much more a better coach would be able to get out of this squad. Never mind that there aren't exactly a lineup of better coaches currently available to replace him making it a rather moot point at this juncture. We were a +/- .500 club healthy and if things went well. We haven't been healthy.
  10. Is there a question in there somewhere or simply your usual nonsensical blathering?
  11. Well exactly, it's not a developmental league and the realities of modern NHL schedules are that there is simply VERY little practice time. Jake needed a LOT of practice time and a correspondingly, a LOT playing time to put what he's learned in those practices in to practical use, in game. Then repeat them over and over and OVER until it becomes second nature/instinctual on the ice. That requires practice time and ice time. He wasn't getting the practice time at this level to learn those things and hence wasn't going to receive the ice time to put them to use and repeat them over and over either. It's not a conspiracy and WD is not some evil Machiavellian character who 'hates' Virtanen and laughs maniacally while twisting his mustache.
  12. Yeah, at the SOONEST, this would be TDL. But far more likely IMO it would be in the summer, ahead of the draft.
  13. Not using it as a sweetener. But If they can get Tanev AND one of Baer/Rodin/Granlund plus largely replace Domi with their top 5 pick this summer, that puts them ahead of where they currently are long term. Between one of our wingers and the right draft pick, they're pretty on par for GF as soon as next year (likely ahead long term) and likely quite a bit further ahead with their GA. Especially given their coach and that he's always liked to play a solid D/goaltending with counter attack style. That plays right in to their hands IMO.
  14. People need to keep in mind coaches have FAR, FAR more opportunity to teach at the AHL level. There's a WAY more practice time. That's one of the biggest reasons he was sent down. The amount of teaching and practice time he was getting at this level wasn't enough. That's not a 'fault' of WD's, it's a 'fault' of being at the NHL level.
  15. Tanev + one of Baer/Granlund/Rodin for Domi and a pick (3rd?) say...? They get a warm body winger with upside, the D they need and they'll have another top 5 lotto pick to supplement their forward group.
  16. Edler isn't here long term either. At the latest, he's gone as a UFA in 2 more seasons (if we don't trade him/he agrees to a trade first). That's pretty short term really. So IMO, neither are in the long term plans. We would be keeping the younger players Gudbranson, Hutton, Stetcher, Tryamkin, Juolevi, Brisebois...Sbisa for now etc. Move Tanev for say Domi (as per Forsy's wish list) that also allows us to protect Sbisa (and ideally get more value from him next TDL when there's a better market do to no expansion draft). Draft around top 5 this year and pick up a potential top 6 forward (Hischier?). Next year: Domi, Horvat, Eriksson Sedin, Sedin, Hansen Granlund, Sutter, Boeser ????, Gaunce, Dorsett Edler, Stetcher Hutton, Gudbranson Sbisa, Tryamkin Move Sbisa at the TDL, call up Brisebois? The following year: Domi, Horvat, Eriksson Virtanen, Hischier, Boeser Granlund, Sutter, Lockwood? ???, Gaunce, Dorsett Edler, Stetcher Hutton, Gudbranson Brisebois, Tryamkin Move Edler at the TDL and call up Juolevi?
