  1. The year after those 2011 finals where we were - according to you - "mentaly fragile" we won the second President's trophy in a row and looking to head deep in to the playoffs. The only things that derailed that season were a broken Kesler and Duncan Keith's elbow to our leading scorers melon. Not "mental fragility"
  2. I think his point is that we wouldn't be. That their skill level and ceiling are much higher then Schroeder's.
  3. Personally I'd re-sign Weber and trade Tanev as part of a package for a top 6 forward. Hamhuis, Bieksa Edler, Niskanen Garrison, Weber Stanton
  4. IMO it's between Nylander and Draisaitl...whomever is left after the top 5 picks (unless someone else drops out of the "top 5"). Otherwise I'd almost prefer to trade down to say the 8th-12th pick and get Virtanen, Fleury etc plus whatever additional assets we can manage.
  5. I think that with AV's knowledge of our roster and the west that the twins are used to their strengths in offensive deployment, guys like Hansen are used more on the PK/defensive deployment, we play more puck possession and less collapse/dump and change, there's no attempt to square peg Edler in to the round hole Hamhuis is already occupying and the minutes are spread more evenly...yes I think we're likely less injured, less worn out and likely have a few more points that get us one of those 7th/8th seed spots. So in a round about way, at least we have Torts to thank for getting us 6th pick
  6. The only people I've seen "blaming" AV entirely were the same reactionary/panicky fans on here that overreact and oversimplify just about everything they hear from our tabloid sports media. Firing AV was quite simply a move to kick the existing team in the keaster as a "Hail Mary" move and really the only option Gillis had left with no ready prospects (largely due to previous management and then going on a cup run) and a shrinking cap (both eating in to roster depth). It's not remotely that he was a "bad" coach. It was that he was a good coach that had been here a long time and wasn't able to push the roster further than he already had. Especially as the roster HAS regressed (see above). If we'd retained him we're probably in the playoffs this year (making another early exit due to the above roster issues). We were always going to be a bubble team this past season though.
  7. I tend to agree with the line of thinking that you can't just hire a new coach every year. I'm just not sure that's the case here. Or at least the only consideration. It's all going to depend on whether or not management thinks he simply is not a good fit. If he doesn't fit, he doesn't fit regardless of how long he's been on the clock. It will also HIGHLY depend on who else is available. If there's a better coach available, they'd be foolish not to hire them/fire Torts especially as they may not be around for long. If (and that's a BIG if) he is retained...he will be on a VERY short leash next season IMO.

Despite all the doomsday chicken littles around here IMO, with some changes, we ARE a playoff team. We also have the cap space to throw serious money at Nisk. Stanton plays LHD, we have a spot for a RHD. I suppose he could play LHD and Garrison could move to the RHD side on that 3rd pairing. I'm fine with that. Re-sign Weber as our 7th D and Frankie goes to Hollywood Utica. I trade anyone in a heartbeat if it improves the team. Tanev included. And a top 6 forward + Niskanen >>> than Tanev. Being over attached to a player who doesn't have the offense or size to be a legit top pairing D is FAR stupider IMO. He's a very good, complimentary piece, not a building block IMO.
  9. In two years he likely wouldn't be worth or expecting $6m+. Probably closer to say $4.5 in two years from now dollars. We'd also still have the option of trading him at that years deadline (2015/2016) to a playoff team if things aren't well for us. (Albeit at less of a return than we'd get now before someone jumps all over that. IMO having Kesler for the next 1.5 year plus a lesser return > losing Kesler now for a greater return.)
  10. Yeah...pretty sure his job is to expose OTHER teams weaknesses. Not his own
  11. Looks really good and yeah, big fan. Watched Woman in Black last night. The first half was pretty good old fashioned horror movie with good atmospherics/sound effects, good acting, the right mood/setting. But it slowly started to unravel for me at the upward swing toward to climax and end where I felt the story line got a bit muddled and the ending just kind of happened without any quality "aha" moment or big payoff that you expect with a horror movie IMO. Good start but fizzled towards the end. 6.5/10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lReemWmO5o

I trade Tanev in a heartbeat as part of a package for a young, legit top 6 forward. Go hard for Niskanen in the summer and poof. Hamhuis, Bieksa Edler, Niskannen Garrison, Corrado Stanton
  13. If he was even closer to $3m I might consider it but he's just too expensive for a guy that's likely to be on our 3rd/4th line. On a good note, with his play in the latter portion of the season, we might actually be able to trade him.
  14. You only get ~$900k cap relief in the new CBA by burying someone in the minors. $That would leave a ~$3.35m cap hit for a guy playing in Utica. Not going to happen. Traded or bought out.
  15. Watched it last night and LOVED it. Great story, acting, casting, drama, action/races, scenery/cinematography, audio/sound effects, women... If you haven't seen it, do it! 9/10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_u3FODrenM And man that final race scene (especially) with the engines, the atmosphere the water/spray in the surrounds.... That is some straight up demo material
  16. Too much money for a third liner IMO. Also taking away a roster spot from youth. Who does he bump here? Sedin, Sedin, Jensen/Burrows UFA/prospect/trade, Kesler, Kassian Burrows, Horvat, Santorelli Higgins, Matthias, Richardson
  17. I believe you mean: Higgins, Matthias, Richardson Booth will be bought out/traded and IMO Hansen is very likely traded as well (if we re-sign Santorelli...which we should).
