  1. Not terrible in Notting Hill either. As far as modern RomCom's go it's one of the more watchable to be forced to sit down to
  2. Indeed. Who said we should entirely stop blocking shots again? Did I miss that post? Also, somebody should tell Kola that his opinion is worth less regardless of who has played. We have more posts than him = us being right. That's how CDC works
  3. Aww come on. As corny as it is, Love Actually's a good holiday movie and he did a decent job there.
  4. Well that 1-1...anybody want to be the tie breaker?
  5. First, I think "a lot" (there's a space there by the way ) is overstating things. There's been a few people complaining about it...certainly not the majority or "a lot". Second, blocking shots is not the problem. The zero d-zone pressure while collapsing back (and blocking shots) is the issue. It's not that Tort's system includes blocking shots but how the shots are blocked that is the issue.
  6. I was wondering about this one. I LOVE me a good Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks flick and this one's had tons of positivity swirling around it...but everything I've seen (commercials, trailers etc) it looks highly average and formulaic. Like the animated film version of pop music. Highly conflicting... Anybody else seen it/have thoughts?
  7. FWIW, shot blocking is not even remotely one of the many reasons Torts should be fired.
  8. You obviously missed the above part of my post so you may want to read it again Simple facts are that without some of the boneheaded coaching mistakes made this year, this team has a few more points and squeeks in to the playoffs. Period. Whether they get blown out in the first round is irrelevant. They're a better team with better coaching. That is my sole and only point. Not whether they're as good as the top teams (they're clearly not) or would contend for the cup. Clear? As for your off tangent rant re: the players and MG. Here's a pretty good look at next year's "likely" lineup with pretty much zero changes AKA: all MG's work: Sedin, Sedin, Jensen UFA/prospect, Kesler, Kassian Burrows, Horvat, Santorelli Higgins, Richardson, Matthias That is already infinitely better than this year's lineup. Top contending team? Probably not. But at least a lot closer and with four actual, viable lines that can actually be played (with the right coach).
  9. Every player has an "optimal" time they can play before their performance degrades, injuries accumulate or both. For the Sedins that's about +/-19 minutes if I recall. They don't play the same style of game as St. Loius. They spend a LOT more time using their bodies to protect the puck, against generally larger, meaner competition. Those are HARD minutes. THEIR optimal time is ~19 minutes with largely offensive deployment. It's where they and hence the team are most successful. Everyone and their dog knows those two things and yet Torts either didn't bother to find out or didn't care. I'm not sure which is worse.
  10. That they're entirely different players on different teams, in different conferences etc all of which makes your comparison silly? That point?
  11. This team is in the playoffs with better coaching. I'm not saying they would have done anything as they certainly have regressed the past few years and lack depth but they were a playoff team with better coaching. Buffalo to Boston? No. But from wrong side to right side of a playoff bubble team? Yes. Let that sink in. In the long run, we'll likely be the better for it with both a high pick and a longer summer for the team to recover and train. But I digress.. This thread isn't about the players or the GM, it's about the coach. He did a piss poor job, he's not current management's hire and I've yet to see a good reason to retain him.
  12. Jensen was recovering from injury and still adapting to N.A. ice. Once he did those two things he flourished in Utica. Then he came up here on fire where it was promptly coached out of him. It was not up and down at all in Utica. Perhaps all of these players improved in spite of him or could have improved further with another coach? They're young and on an upward trajectory. They should be improving via their own growth, training, experience etc. Regardless, his job is to coach a TEAM not just three young guys whom he may or may not have had a very debatable impact on.
  13. ...and Tanev was improving before Torts got here. Jensen improved in Utica, not under Torts. He actually cooled down the longer he was up here and was then demoted down the lineup Kassian, IMO is continuing the same trajectory he's had since he's been here and simply got more opportunity/ice time towards the end of the season due to the aforementioned injuries/exhaustion. These are hardly ringing endorsements for retaining Torts...
  14. Or was it that the rest of the team was so injured/exhausted from being overplayed that he finally had to put young guys in a position to sink or swim and we're fortunate that largely they were able to do the latter? That this only happened at the end of a basically already over season, to me, is clear evidence that he didn't bother to utilize the scarce depth he did have until it was already too late.
  15. Never said we had "contending talent". This year was always going to be a crap shoot. The way he "pushed the personnel" was always going to end the way it did. Exhausted and injured players and under-utilized role guys. He quite simply did not get the best from what he had. In fact in most cases he got the worst. Anyone who thinks his misuse of players had nothing to do with how poorly this season went is fooling themselves.
  16. Looking forward to that...heard good reviews elsewhere as well
  17. If there was some guarantee that Torts would ACTUALLY use 4 lines, deploy the twins in a more offensive role, deploy guys like Hansen in a more defensive role, stop trying to pair Edler with Bieksa, stop with so much dump and change "offense" and collapse/have no puck possession "defense"... I'd feel more comfortable having him back. Those are all pretty damning elements that explain a lot about this season and I personally DON'T feel comfortable that he could change ALL of those things for an entire season even if management does increase depth and adds better players/more prospects to the lineup. That's why I don't want him back.
  18. Combination of things. 1-Luck 2-Quality of competition 3-Hadn't yet been worn in to the ground/injured 4-Took a while to learn new "system". 5-Lack of depth once those injuries hit. Those would be the obvious ones to me. 3/4 point pretty squarely at the coaching IMO. 5 at the previous three GM's
  19. Unfortunately that's usually true.
  20. I could see Drai there as well, again, if he miraculously drops. Shinkaruk/Fox have an outside chance of surprising as well. Shinkaruk might pull a "Jensen" and need a few months in Utica to get back in to playing shape and get his timing etc back and be a fit part way through the season as well. I'm fine with Burrows/Santorelli playing there in the mean time to see if Shink or anyone else earns that spot. If not, I just ran the numbers on Capgeek and we'd still have ~$4m to possibly acquire someone at the deadline. If we move Kesler, that number gets silly (or would be plenty of room to add Stastny and Nisk this summer). FORWARDS Daniel Sedin ($7.000m) / Henrik Sedin ($7.000m) / Nicklas Jensen ($0.863m) Alexandre Burrows ($4.500m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Zack Kassian ($2.500m) Chris Higgins ($2.500m) / Bo Horvat ($0.894m) / Mike Santorelli ($2.000m) Tom Sestito ($0.750m) / Brad Richardson ($1.150m) / Shawn Matthias ($1.750m) Jordan Schroeder ($0.700m) / DEFENSEMEN Dan Hamhuis ($4.500m) / Chris Tanev ($3.000m) Alexander Edler ($5.000m) / Matt Niskanen ($4.500m) Jason Garrison ($4.600m) / Kevin Bieksa ($4.600m) Ryan Stanton ($0.550m) / Yannick Weber ($0.800m) GOALTENDERS Jacob Markstrom ($1.200m) Eddie Lack ($1.150m) BUYOUTS David Booth ($0.000m) Keith Ballard ($0.000m) RETAINED SALARIES (1.13% of upper limit) Roberto Luongo ($0.800m—15.00%) ------ CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (estimations for 2014-15) SALARY CAP: $71,100,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,307,500; BONUSES: $850,000 CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $3,792,500

I'd be surprised though if one of them doesn't end up playing wing on another's line.
