  7. Here is how it happened Spokane, WA - The Victoria Royals had a chance to wrap up their Western Conference Quarter-Final series with the Spokane Chiefs on Thursday night as they squared off for Game 4 at Veterans Memorial Arena. The Royals gave Patrik Polivka the start in goal for the fourth consecutive game, while the Chiefs again countered with Eric Williams. Spokane controlled much of the play in the early stages of the game, but Polivka kept the home team off the scoreboard and Jordan Fransoo gave the Royals a lead with 5:12 left in first period. Fransoo fired a shot from the point through traffic just as a Victoria powerplay had expired to record his second goal in as many nights and give the Royals an edge. Tyson Helgesen responded for the Chiefs with his first career WHL goal. Helgesen jumped on a loose puck with just 57 seconds left in the first period to even the score. The Royals would quickly respond 20 seconds later when Ben Walker flew down the right wing, beat a defender and snapped a shot high on Williams to give Victoria a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play. Spokane pushed hard to tie the game early in the second period and Polivka had to be sharp to keep the Royals up by one goal. Late in the frame, Axel Blomqvist broke down the right wing on a partial break and nearly gave Victoria a two-goal lead, but Williams denied the effort with a right pad save. Victoria maintained their 2-1 lead as the two clubs headed to the second intermission. The Royals’ penalty kill unit was tested early in the third period when the Chiefs received a two-man advantage early in the frame. Victoria would kill off the penalties, but Spokane tied the game soon after when Connor Chartier tipped Helgesen’s shot past Polivka with 16:28 remaining in regulation. The Royals bounced back and later regained the lead on Austin Carroll’s third goal of the post-season. Ryan Gagnon outwaited a sliding Chiefs’ defender on a two-on-one before he fed a pass to Carroll that the Scottsdale, AZ native lifted over Williams with 9:54 left in the third period. Spokane fought back again, but Logan Nelson added another for the Royals to make it 4-2 with 4:19 to play. Carroll rushed down the left wing and hit Nelson with a pass before the 20-year-old deked around Williams and gave Victoria a two-goal edge. The Chiefs pulled Williams for an extra attacker with over two minutes remaining, but the Royals clamped down on defence to earn a Game 4 win and the series sweep. Royals 4 Chiefs 2. Victoria went 0/4 = 0.0% on the powerplay, while Spokane went 0/3 = 0.0%. The Chiefs outshot the Royals 34-21. With the win, the Royals recorded the first WHL Playoffs series win in franchise history. This was the franchise’s seventh appearance in the WHL Playoffs. Move on to the next round! Portland will be a tough series, but the Royals can and will beat them!
  8. bump Looking at this schedule MIN could easily lose 6 or 7 of their 8 remaining games. They only have 3 wins in their last 10 They really are not that good and their Goaltending is questionable at best If MIN goes 2-5-1 they finish with 90 points We will need to go 5-1-1 to get 90 points With 5 wins we would hold the tiebreaker
  9. It was a head shot! Should have at least been a fine. It really does seem that Burrows is a "target" to this league, it is unfortunate. I would think that the group that is putting a lawsuit against the league for concussions would be interested in this.
  10. That was a playoff game and it was an opponents players stick, had to be removed by the trainer at the bench! There was no penalty called on the Play.
  11. WOOOHOOOO!!!!! 6-1 Royals Game 3 win 4th win is always the toughest to get. Hope they can finish it tonight! Here is what happened last night Ben Walker scored just 11 seconds into the game with a shot from the slot that set a new franchise playoff record and gave the visitors an early lead. Victoria doubled their lead on a goal from Austin Carroll at the 7:37 mark. Carroll received a pass from Logan Nelson on a three-on-one and quickly lifted the puck over Williams’ glove. Royals’ captain Jordan Fransoo made it a 3-0 game with a solo powerplay effort at the 13:31 mark. Fransoo skated the puck up the ice from behind his net, stickhandled through three defenders and wristed a shot high glove side to make it a three-goal game. Carroll added his second of the period at the 15:44 mark and the Royals led 4-1 after 20 minutes of play. Liam Stewart got the Chiefs on the board at the 10:04 mark of the second period when he snapped a wrist shot that beat Polivka over the glove. Victoria responded just 29 seconds later on Nelson’s second goal of the playoffs. Nelson took a drop pass from Steven Hodges in the slot and ripped a quick shot over the blocker of the Spokane netminder. Williams made a pair of big saves late in the period to spark his team, but the Royals carried a 5-1 lead into the second intermission. Stewart nearly struck again for Spokane to narrow the Royals’ lead, but his shot from the slot rang off the post midway through the third period. On a late powerplay, Travis Brown buried his second of the playoffs at the 18:33 mark to round out the game’s scoring. Royals 6 Chiefs 1. Victoria went 3/6 = 50.0% on the powerplay, while Spokane went 0/2 = 0.0%. The Royals outshot the Chiefs 24-21.
  12. We pick 10th right now, If we finish crappy in our last 9 games we will pick 9th If we completely blow we just may get the 8th pick but unlikely. The same caliber of prospect will be available at 10th I'd rather hope for a playoff spot until we are mathematically out.
  13. You can call him "super optimist" I call him a guy that is looking to make the best out of a very tough situation. There are 23 guys in the visitors Dressing room in MIN right now that feel the same as he does!
  14. WE NEED TO WIN!!! Lack really needs to get us a couple of wins tonight and tomorrow.
  15. A Canucks win tonight in MIN and tomorrow in COL coupled with a PHX loss in NJD will change everything We need Schnied's to win 1 for us!
  16. Wow! Leafs going down faster than Linda Lovelace!
  17. Stupid Penguins have to go and ruin everything!
  18. Ben Kuzma ‏@benkuzma 4m Further to earlier Burrows comment, Torts now confirms winger IS going on trip. Didn't practice, but will be evaluated in Minny. #Canucks
  19. Craig Morgan‏@cmorganfoxaz FYI: Mike Smith did have an MRI this morning, which helped dispel the #Coyotes' greatest fears.

  21. http://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/nhl/coyotes/2014/03/25/phoenix-coyotes-goalie-mike-smith-injury-update/6870329/ Coyotes goalie Mike Smith is considered day-to-day after leaving Monday's game against the New York Rangers with an apparent right leg injury. The team is waiting to evaluate the results of tests done Tuesday in Pittsburgh and expects to know more about the severity of the injury by Wednesday. In the meantime, goalie Mark Visentin will be recalled from the American Hockey League to back up goalie Thomas Greiss.
  22. Both of those ANA games have them coming into VAN late at night after playing in EDM the night before. Here is a pic of the Smith injury Man' that knee looks like it shouldn't bend that way!
  23. If you look at the standings we would pick 10th right now Really, the only 2 teams that have a possibility to pass us from below are WPG and NSH and they trail by 3 and 4 points respectively NJD picks 30th so they don't count. IMO if we don't make it to the playoffs we would still pick 10th or 11th maybe 12th CLB,TOR,DET.WSH will all have more points than us We will not pick better than 9th, no matter what. We might as well hope for the playoffs and pick 15th or hopefully higher!
