Defensive trends in the league, and the Canucks plan
D.B Cooper replied to D.B Cooper's topic in Canucks Talk
So, like I’ve said, you seem to be one of the only ones denying this trend, which has already been discussed and proven in my very minimal efforts for you. (More than I said I’d do). Let’s see what else is right in front of your brilliant face…. Stetcher, Hughes, Rathbone, Jett Woo, Tony Utunen, Matthew Brassard. Picks and players in the last couple years. Quit being so daft. We don’t see eye to eye. Cool. Right now you are acting blind -
Defensive trends in the league, and the Canucks plan

Like I said, these are the first ones that came up. This isn’t a new topic and we both know it. I’m not the only one in this thread that has heard this. You love to pick people’s $&!# apart to sound knowledgeable. Zero real opinions of your own, but a total hero ‘calling people out’. A quick search proved I wasn’t just making up an opinion. Other than that, I don’t know what you are looking for. I posted a fact about the current D lines left in the playoffs, then a simple question. Got an opinion you add? Or are you just here to $&!# talk? -
Defensive trends in the league, and the Canucks plan

Just to show I’m not pulling this out of my ass, even though I know we have all heard the idea that the league is starting to lean towards smaller faster puck movers... These are all first page google responses. Some are a couple years old some are more recent. it took all of 15 seconds to google and be able to get an idea of what I’m talking about. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/puckprose.com/2020/04/20/new-age-nhl-defenseman-taken-league-storm/amp/ https://www.google.ca/amp/s/theathletic.com/218997/2018/01/24/mirtle-nhls-rise-of-the-small-defenceman-continues-with-samuel-girard-and-joe-hicketts/%3famp https://www.flohockey.tv/articles/6293291-chase-priskie-quinn-hughes-more-5-ncaa-to-nhl-defensemen https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.huffingtonpost.ca/amp/entry/nhl-preview-league-is-trending-towards-smaller-faster-and-quicker_n_8253988/ -

What’s been weird about the playoffs? Pretty much the same format. same amount of teams and games being played -
Defensive trends in the league, and the Canucks plan

Seeing as we are talking about current trends and not 5 years ago, I don’t see what the Pens have to do with this.... Also the Pens had Crosby, Malkin, Fluery, and Letang all in their prime. That team was a dynasty. -
So, we keep hearing the Canucks and a couple other teams talk about how the league is shifting towards smaller, faster, puck moving defencemen. Our own Canucks are going to have at least 2-3 top 6 dmen who fit the mold of an undersized, skilled speedy dman. Is this actually a real trend? Or, I should say, is this trend actually successful? Personally, I’m a fan of the big, oldschool, defensive style dman. Block shots, big hits and clearing the crease. Let’s look at the final 4 playoff teams D lines and see if this is actually a trend that is successful and if we are making the right moves. Montreal Height Weight Ben Chiarot 6’3” 225 Shea Weber 6’4” 230 Brett Kulak 6’2” 190 Joel Edmundson 6’4” 215 Alexander Romanov 6’0” 208 Erik Gustaffson 6’0” 197 NY Islanders Adam Pelech 6’3” 218 Ryan Pulock 6’2” 217 Nick Leddy 6’0” 207 Scott Mayfield 6’5” 223 Andy Greene 5’11” 190 Noah Dobson 6’4” 184 Tampa Bay Victor Hedman 6’6” 229 Jan Rutta 6’2” 204 Ryan McDonagh 6’1” 214 Erik Cernak 6’3” 233 Mikhail Sergachev 6’2” 217 David Savard 6’2” 229 Vegas Alec Martinez 6’1” 209 Alex Pietrangelo 6’3” 210 Brayden McNabb 6’4” 213 Shea Theodore 6’2” 195 Nick Holden 6’4” 212 Zach Whitecloud 6’2” 209 Other than Andy Green, who has been in the league a million years and doesn’t really play a small mans game, it looks that 6’ 200lbs is on the smaller end. So for this year at least, the ‘moving to smaller mobile dmen’ thing is 100% debunked. Are we making the wrong move by loading up on them? Hughes. 5-10. 170lbs Rathbone 5-10. 178lbs Joulevi. 6-2, but still very light at 180lbs I know people are gonna say ‘but you can make up for it with a bigger partner’. Thats BS. Good teams dont roll like that.

While I agree with part of this, it’s beyond the point. Yes, she was obviously aware of the implications of what going to his hotel room meant. What the hell did she think they were going to be doing? Playing scrabble? Having said that, The second she says No or Stop....... it’s over. Period. That’s it. Like Jakes NHL career... the moment is over. She can go up there with the intention to get it on, but she can also change her mind if she chooses. So many of the guys posts in this thread have been fairly gross.

What has he done to earn that opportunity? Showing up out of shape? putting in minimal efforts? Constantly putting himself in situations to look bad? Potentially raping a woman? Everything he has done on and off the ice has earned him a ticket to Russia. The Canucks don’t need to put another dollar or minute into this kid. He’s not worth it. Lost cause. Totally done.

I don’t know much about his other projects these days. He had a run with Avenged Sevenfold. I thought that would have been a good fit, but I guess not. Lol I play a show in Germany years ago. Twisted Sister was on the bill and Portnoy was drumming for them. I got to talk to him for like 3 minutes. It was cool as hell!
-
Portnoy is the only reason to listen to dream theatre. you aren’t missing anything.

Shea Weber has been that guy for a long time. Now that he is older, his grumpiness has grown even more, which is fantastic. He can’t really skate anymore, but he is still solid in his own end, and still has a cannon of a shot.

(Discussion) How bad is Quinn Hughes defensively?
D.B Cooper replied to BigTramFan's topic in Canucks Talk
Mostly all that proves that he plays better with a defensive minded partner that can help make up for his hot dogging. When he plays with others who don’t always protect him, his numbers drop. -
So - Who Should The Canucks Take At The Number 9 Spot?
D.B Cooper replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
Taking into account the cost to acquire these guys, plus the large contract they will get (that we can’t afford)........ I’d say no. They will both cost much more than just 9th. -
McKinnon, now there's a team player..
D.B Cooper replied to iceman64's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Because he can score 120 points a year. Lol He is amazing. I’m saying there are two ends of the ice. One of these fellas plays in just one end, the other only plays in the ozone. Like I said before IMO McKinnon is the better player. I’d take him over McD if I’m trying to build a winning team. -

D.B Cooper replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
Why dismiss this year? That’s just silly. He is looking for big bucks. No excuses. It’s not his first time doing it. Yes there is a learning curve, but no way can this year be taken with a grain of salt. It’s a contract year where he is expecting big bucks. -

D.B Cooper replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
Yeah. Rookie year. Taken with a grain of salt. So let’s focus on this year. His defence was trash. Straight up. His effort for the first half of the year was non existent. Only cared about points. Second half he was able to do the same, but lean on Hamonic more. Im trying to use his first year to actually give him some credit. Lol! Of we judge this year, other than points it was NOT good at all. -

I’m sorry I’m not into fan boying and ignoring the obvious deficiencies in someone’s game. Would you like to explain how great he is on his own end? Maybe you could even try some advanced stats! Hahahahahahaha -

Jesus man. We all know what was meant by that. This last season. A small handful of weeks ago. If you can’t keep up just say so and I’ll stop conversing with you -

D.B Cooper replied to Patel Bure's topic in Canucks Talk
Tremendous??? Hahahah. Sure. It was ok for an undersized rookie. Of course there is a learning curve, and he definitely felt it. Hahah. And no, saying he was better defensively last year is not a contradiction. It is truth. And if you payed attention, his effort in that end was apparent. -

Nobody is talking about the future. Get a grip. Today, he is a garbage defender. It is what it is. Grow up Peter Pan. One day he might really focus on both ends of the ice. I hope he does! Right now, this season...... he did not. -

Sorry. Let me put on my homer goggles. Hughes is the best dman in the world! It doesn’t even matter that he only cares about getting points! OMG! We must give him 10mill a year!
