Below is a good article from two years ago when he was the Bruins #1 prospect. He fell hard from grace the next year after this, not sure if it was an injury or what.

    https://www.stanleycupofchowder.com/2020/6/29/21303909/top-10-bruins-prospects-jack-studnicka-is-at-the-top-of-the-heap-jack-studnicka-scouting-report

I have an avid Bruins fan at work, the Studnicka story sounds a bit like DiPietro’s lack of games in pandemic year stunted his growth

Feedback is he’s more suited for top-6 but not good enough and not gritty enough for the bottom six

overall we traded a NHL long-shot project goalie and a very far long shot RHD prospect (go to DobberProspects to see how high they are on Myrenberg making the NHL top RHD prospect or not) for a project AHL tweener that fills a much needed depth role on the team

Our centre prospect pool is just as bad as RHD and we have a plethora of 5 to 7 RHD in the system especially now with Bear, solid 36 hours to address urgent injury induced depth issues

Treliving extended his tenure as GM by 2-3 years with these moves. If he’s successful and CGY goes deep within that time, perhaps he gets extended. If not, well at least he went down swinging and gave the fans the best chance he could during the window he did create for the Lames. Have to commend him on this quick offseason recovery regardless.

Might be a rough go at the start for the next GM after him though, haha.

Yes Calgary is all in for the short term as they should be given their core’s age but they’ll have a decade of pain just like we did post 2012 with an unmovable aging core

Kadri is almost a year older, under contract for 2 extra years, and a forward, who's play tend to drop off a good couple years before D.

That you think the two are remotely comparable, and prove some point, is baffling.

Was about to say the same thing

    Kadri  4 years 35+ at 7 M + to OELs 0

Completely different.  Doubt OEL is worse than Edler in his mid 30s, contract is not great but not horrible

this Kadri contract stinks, gives Miller’s camp 42 M plus inflation starting point for years 3 through 8 and 20+ M for the first 2 years, plus tax and team desperation considerations, I can see them starting at >70 M for 8 years at this point

Honestly think a production fair deal is between 40 and 55 M when things are said in done, the guy (Miller) is more than halfway through his career and has less than 500 points, really don’t see him getting more than 400 to 500 the rest of the way, nor do I see him being an effective bottom 6 forward at the tail end of his career, something that Kadri has a leg up on him on

  4. Hamonic and Motte for Dermott, Richardson a 4th and 1.925 M in Cap (423k in real cap space this year) if this helps keep Halak’s bonuses off next year’s cap then it’s a job well done in my books

Over all the team treads water talent wise for the rest of the year, balls in their court to make the playoffs.  Adding centre depth and an nhl LHD upgrade over Hunt and moving Hamonic was needed 2 months ago to have a real impact though

  5. Don’t get this one, outcome was fairly obvious as the upside with this player far out weighs any risk.  Kid showed better than all the journeyman plugs in camp with limited 4th line minutes, better than Podz and better than a fair number of the top 9 nhl veterans that had a guaranteed spot in the lineup.  There were enough injury holes to give the kid a spot and 10-15 game NHL audition

He shows well he’s a cheap addition

He struggles then he’s less likely to be grabbed on the way down

going 15g in 19 games, showing well in limited minutes against lopsided opponents in preseason and showing marked improvement on his skating for sure he’d be grabbed by a bottom feeder like San Jose looking for youth with upside

Nothing worse than pigeon holing players into a fixed role.

I know it's only for 3 years, but I feel 7.35aav for Petey is a very good deal for us. It's about as low as any of us could have realistically hoped, I think. (And lower than the 7.75 reported yesterday). Kudos to Petey for accepting that amount rather than drag this on for another half mil. He's gonna get *paid* in three years, and I'm sure that fact wasn't lost on him.

For Hughes, I do think it is *slightly* high, but not bad. More than a million less than Makar - though his defensive acumen isn't likely as strong as Makar's. (Last season, it wasn't even close). I would have preferred to see around 7 over 6 years, but whatever. It's done.

    Let's play some hockey.

Petey’s deal is good Hughes for sure there is risk and reward.

Dubas was heard on this call saying "I would have offered $10M AAV and not a penny less, JB and the Canucks will have room to sign other players moving forward - where is the fun challenge in that?"

This whole RFA shenanigans started with this Du(m)bas.  In my line of work you have to work two years above your level to get a level change this guy gives you two for free

Yeah, we can't let Gadj get claimed. He'll be scooped up for sure. I've seen enough from Big Mac to say that I don't think there's much more there. Gadj is coming off a (shortened) AHL season where he was close to a goal game, and considering his skating has taken a big step forward I think he has to be on this roster opening night.

The guy has put in the time and is clearly ready for a shot.  It would be such a shame to lose him for nothing at this point.  Remember the general out cry when Frankie Corrado was claimed, the CDC should break if we lose this guy

I hope we waive Macewan. Hes useless. Rather have Gadj.

Lockwood prob has to start in AHL simply cuz theres no room for him on this roster. Asset management

I am fine with big Mac as the 13th guy for extra truculence when needed.  Gadjovich ceiling has always been high if he could deal with his skating

In one of my mock line ups, I had...

    Gadj EP Boeser

Me too!  The guy has the feet for it now and has looked really good.  If Gino can score 16 goals riding shotgun with Bure so can Jonah with these guys.  Though honestly Bure could’ve scored much more that year if he just shot rather than dishing it to Gino on every 2 on 1.

There’s time and cap space to use to address that if Hamonic doesn’t play.

There’s also some upcoming roster cuts and moves post camp across the NHL that the Nux can benefit from. Kraken have some tough decisions on D and we can take advantage of that to add to our depth even more.

Yes, waivers are coming and we could grab something for sure.  Really depends on if Hamonic is gone completely or if he’s only opted out from this year

With Hamonic, the D is not bad.  If Woo and Juolevi step up to simply be reliable in the next year, we're in good shape.

Agree not bad but definitely not elite.  If OJ can get back to pre-Covid form or Jack has some Stecher in him then we should get by given out forward depth.  Benning and Green have a lot riding on this season and could see a move for a more experienced NHL D to take the last LHD spot.  Jacks looked really good so far but I can’t see Green wanting to go with only 4 D that can PK and OJ is definitely in the dog house

It's like when you flirt with a waitress.  You know deep down she does it with every customer for tips, but you want to believe just for an hour that she's a little into you.  You would be the guy telling me I'm too old and fat for her and she just wants my tips.  You might be right but nobody wants to go for beers with you.

    And there you go again

So it's about 1.5 mill more than that on the books, spread between two players, which makes them both overpaid by about 750K in your eyes?

That's "worst case scenario" for you?

Add to that the fact that, if we do decide to move on from Hughes a few years down the line, we'll be moving him with term left, thus netting us a bigger return than if we were to move him with only one year left.

Worst case doesn’t need to mean terrible just not a preferred out come, if that money went to term for Petey I would be more OK as the Risks are lower and he’s proven more in my mind.

In isolation the deals are good but for me in the context of the cap and holes in the team it’s going to be difficult to add and keep pieces over the next couple years.  My personal opinion is that that 1.5 M could’ve been used elsewhere to make the team better and more competitive over the next three years.  Myers is off the books in three years and cap should be going up by then, money would’ve been there for both.
