It’s not about weight it’s about strength. I am also a believer in Jake, just do not see him turning into a power forward. Still think he can be a solid north-south two-way forward with his skill set

Vegas figured him out and the league took note. They were on him whenever he touched the puck either directly stealing the puck or forcing a bad pass. The one good game he had against Vegas he barely touched the puck (and got three points if I recall). He needs to go back and watch that game and learn the lesson. Every team in the league had multiple guys that can match his foot speed but he’ll lose 9 out of 10 puck battles he engages in. Carry less pass more and use his gifts to get into the soft areas of the ice. He’ll figure it out

More meant at 6’1” he’s smaller than the average NHL D, if he’s not putting in the work he’ll never succeed at it. Bert was a Monster of a man by comparison and made it look easy as a result. Yes Jake can take dumb penalties but he also draws them (plus 5 since the start of last year)

OJ, victim of the LHD depth chart but buck up, just imagine how Breezer feels

Really like what I’ve seen from this guy so far. kid’s a pin ball bouncing through checks and you can see the skill every time he touches the puck. Best player to ever play for the Canucks was only 5’10”, not worried about size with this kid.

Yes, gotta respect the guys that compete but in all honesty Stecher is a plug. On paper Schmidt is a big step forward on Stecher and Hamonic is a bit of a step back on Tanev Should be a net improvement on D regardless what the rookies do, especially with Benn playing well. The issue we’ve seen so far is that none of the pairs that looked good on paper going into the year have gelled. The only one that was consistent was OJ-Myers

The power forward ship has sailed on Jake, doesn’t have the will nor really the size to dominate the average NHL D. He’s at best a middle six two-way forward which is fine in and of itself but the thing that jumps out to at me is that he hasn’t been groomed into a penalty killer. It’s hard to find work long term in the NHL in the middle six or below if you don’t have some proficiency on the PK. For me since the start of the bubble play-ins he eats minutes, throws some hits, and makes the decent defensive plays every once in awhile. Not really hurting the team but not really contributing either, by definition he’s playing like a plug. I am OK with his current game because he’s is hitting and he isn’t costing us goals against and is a plus player but disappointing all the same. Management needs to pick Gaudette or Virtanen and move on from the other since you can’t really have 2 guys in the bottom six who you’re scared to put on the PK and hope to succeed.

I think it has as much to do with Edler-Schmidt not looking all that good together and with Hamonic out and Benn in, a guy like Green, who seems to want three RHD and three LHD, 5 LHD may not be doing his heart any good. OJ needs to play, and any comments on him being beat to the outside just go back and look at the Chabot goal, even the best skaters in the game can get beat to the outside. I’ve seen nothing from OJ so far that makes me doubt why he was drafted. Loved Chatters truculence last night though!

Noticed Jake about to make two big hits that the camera missed as it followed the puck. A lot of the physical game happens off camera. I like this line, having Big Mack as an effective forechecker gives the line more options Jake may not be filling the net but he’s not hurting the team either
