  1. Agreed and updated! NHL Kuzmenko Pete Beauviller Garland Miller Boeser Mikheyev Suter Hoglander PDG Blueger Joshua Studnicka Hughes Cole Soucy Hronek Irwin Myers Rathbone Woo Demko Martin AHL Karlsson Sasson Dries Klimovich Raty Podkolzin Pearson Aman McDonough Bains Nielson Bloom Wouters, Arsenau, Gatcomb, Passolt Hirose Juulson Wolanin McWard Brisbois Johansson Daschke, Joyaux, Schmeiman Silovs Lemiuex
  2. Looks like we're going to have a great Abbotsford team this year. Assuming Hoglander, Studnicka, Irwin, Rathbone, and Woo make the canucks (I picked them because of their lack of waiver eligibility) I project the lineup to be: Klimovich Aman Dries Karlsson Raty Podkolzin Pearson Sasson Rau Bains Nielson Bloom Rau Hirose Juulson Wolanin McWard Brisbois Johansson Keeper Silovs
  3. Doesn't look like he's got a regular spot with Suter/Blueger signings. He's still waiver exempt and would make a great 1-2 punch at centre with Aatu Raty in Abbotsford.
  4. Sounds like the perfect guy to have on a PTO. There's still a good chance he outplays the potential people we have slotted in LHD3
  5. The announcer sounds like he's reporting the weather.
  6. Hard to define disappointment. I think factors should include hype beforehand and what negative effect they left the team in. I'm not including people where the disappointment is a result of primarily an injury (David Booth, Michael Ferland, Cody Hodgson, and Sven Baertschi). Certain players I never watched I won't comment on (Alek Stojanov, Shawn Antoski, and Krutov). Nikta Tryamkin He only cost us a 3rd round pick and although he showed he could play in the NHL, it was only at a 3rd pairing level. I don't believe his departure really affected the team as we just got similar skilled 3rd pairing dmen at UFA the following season. Keith Ballard This one may have cost us a cup. His large cap hit at the time (3/4 million) and the cost of acquisition (Grabner + 1st rounder) prevented us from obtaining better depth the last time we went to the finals. Ballard went from being a top 4 dman to having 7/8th dmen like Rome being played before him. The guy just fell off the map the moment he joined the team. The guy had more points the season joining us than he did the following five years. He was a cap anchor for three years we were competing for the cup. Olli Juolevi We have not had a draft pick that high bust so badly in a long time. This one stings because he was also not the BPA. Some may chop this one up to his injury but I don't. He had a terrible draft+1 before his injury issues. We desperately needed to develop dmen into our system at that time and our chronic issues and it is in part because Juolevi didn't work out. He wasn't even close. Loui Eriksson I would pick this one as the most disappointing. The hype was real for this guy coming in. I don't anyone predicted he would be so bad from the outset after having such a consistent career and just finishing off a season with 30G/30A. He looked amazing with the Sedins internationally. As far as I'm aware the Sedins even supported the signing. The guy then played at the level of a 3rd/4th liner for 6 years at the high cap hit of 6 mil. Some seasons he was our highest paid player. The signing sealed the end of the Sedin era and crippled the following on with Pete/Hughes/Demko. In part because of him, we lost important parts to our team after the bubble season (Tanev, Toffoli) and he is in part why we did the terrible OEL trade. Also, his contract prevented us from obtaining better long term contracts for Hughes and Pettersson. Jake Virtanen Basically Olli Joulevi but not as bad. He wasn't drafted as high and he was at least was able to have a regular roster spot for a few years. Jay Beagle Overpaid but the expectations were relatively low to begin with. I actually thought our team lost something after he was traded as our PK has never been the same. Main disappointment was that he was a part of the terrible OEL trade. Mark Messier I know expectations are high but perhaps those were unwarranted. He was quite old when we got him, I'm not sure his stats were so bad that he sunk our team. If anything, I think if he stayed healthy we would've made the playoffs some of the seasons he was there. Furthermore, his contract was only 3 years and it was outside of the cap era. Nothing was stopping the owners from paying for a better supporting cast. I really think the concerns over Messier are overrated over players such as Eriksson. Oliver Ekman-Larsson I did expect a top 4 D out of OEL so I was disappointed we didn't even get that. His cap hit and buyout is killer. This one is hard to rate because the effects of the buyout are still yet to be seen. Linden Vey I mean we lost a second rounder. My expectations were already quite low and his cap hit was also low so it didn't really affect our team long term or even short term. Jordan Schroeder Basically Olli Joulevi/ Jake Virtanen except an even lower 1st rounder so lower expectations.
  7. Joshua is great at faceoffs but his game is more tailored to the wing. Beauviller is terrible at faceoffs but I can see his defensive awareness and speed being great qualities for the centre. I think a combination of both on the third line with Joshua taking faceoffs for Beauviller. Not unlike when we used to do that with Miller and Petey.
  8. Anyone else feel weird seeing players you grew up watching as teenagers watching becoming most of the coaches now?
  9. He didn't look good in the 10+ games he was here. He seemed to get worse as the season which didn't bode well for him long term here.
  10. Well now you're just moving goalposts. The point your were making was BPA, not BPA for position of need which is contrary to the whole point of your post. Matthew Tkachuk was almost universally considered BPA for that draft. Here's some of the draft lists for Patrick White: https://www.insidecollegehockey.com/7Archives/Draft/2007/predraft_ranks0536.htm He was ranked #60 by Hockey News, #34 by ISS, #46 by TSN, and #21 by Mckeen's hockey. On the only list that ranked Patrick White better than where we drafted him, they also put Bill Sweat and Nick Petrecki in front of him who were available. Patrick White was NOT BPA. Awhile back we had someone do a couch potato drafter who did BPA based only on very simple stats. The couch potato regularly beat the Canucks drafting over the last decade.
  11. Joulevi and Patrick White were not BPA. Virtanen could be considered a stretch too, he had some rankings all the way to the second round.
  12. I mean there's basically no point to trading Garland at the cost of picks. You might as well waive him first and then buy him out as his buyout cap hit is super low. It hurts reading what you wrote Provost ^^
  13. Didn't Scott Mellanby work for us previously? I forgot in what capacity.
  14. That's a great contract. I would've definitely been happy if that Canucks got him that contract.
  15. You. How this show continues I don't understand. The plot is so unbelievable that I cant take anything that happens seriously.
  16. I noticed he hasn't played games in awhile and that his last 6 games he had 0 points and a -3. Is he dealing with an injury?
  17. Barbashev is just another Dickenson, a player that only really plays well at wing.
  18. Blueger would probably fit our budget. Based on what i've seen on Raty, it seems clear he will be ahl bound next year.
  19. I'd rather sign Stecher and he'd probably be half the price.
  20. I'm a little surprised we didn't pick him up. I felt like there were a lot of rumours of a Kapanen trade to the Canucks in the off season. He also seems to fit the mold management wants for our wingers which are speedy and good defensively (Mikheyev, Beauviller). I haven't watched him play but about 0.5 ppg seems pretty good for his cap hit.
  21. I mean the general sentiment is it's easier to build a contender/win cup with a top 3 pick than without. Is that not fair?
  22. I was more willing to give him the Lazar contract than for....well Lazar. Amazing how much he's fallen. Lazar hasn't been great but he is still good enough to hold a top 12 spot on our roster.
  23. I don't think we can say that it didn't work. Last year had Demko, this year we've had essentially AHL goaltending. The goalie is probably the biggest factor for a PK.
