  1. Yeah, they've got what we need: a winning record. I agree with JR that we don't need to make any big moves right now. We have to see what we can do with what we have. We had a lot of player turnover in the off season and we haven't gelled yet (well we were just beginning to when the season got interrupted). I don't want to trade Miller at all. He's one of our best players right now. His intensity is needed. And before anyone says we have to trade him while his value is high, I say "no, we have to use our players to get some wins". We need less panic and more determination to win with our current roster. It's really not so bad. GCG!
  2. I don't want to be one of "those" guys but there's an important difference between "postponed" and "cancelled". Which one is it? There's a real chance the whole NHL might be suspended for a while. I want to see more hockey, especially since we're on a roll, but I also want people to be safe. I suspect that there are going to be a lot more disruptions. We need to do what it takes to stop this annoying disease, and then get back to hockey. GCG!
  3. I've always been a supporter of NHL players going to the Olympics but this year is an exception. There's actually two good reasons not to go. One is Covid and the other is that the Chinese government needs to be sent a strong message that their antics on the world stage (and what they do at home) will not be tolerated (anymore). I wouldn't call either an "excuse" though, they are both valid reasons. I think that we and our allies should have opted for a full boycott instead of the meaningless "diplomatic" boycott. Anyway, since this is a thread about Sautner, I suppose I should add a "welcome aboard". Let's see what he can do. What a drag to lose Myers just when he was playing well but that's the way it goes. Next up... GCG!
  4. It's something that no hockey fan wants, but it seems to me the most prudent thing to do would be to shut down the whole NHL until after Christmas. They've already shut down four teams. Instead of waiting until there is no choice and there is a huge number of positive cases maybe the NHL should be a little bit proactive at least. GCG!
  5. There's absolutely no way the virus cares about what humans think. It will be the virus that determines if the season will be completed or not, not so much humans. Humans can play a role in what protective measures we take but we can't just decide that we're not going to have to make changes that we don't want to make. For sure the NHL doesn't want to have 3 consecutive shortened seasons but the NHL doesn't get to decide how the virus spreads (beyond it's own safety protocols) and has to react to the real world situation rather than decide ahead of time what's going to happen. Of course I want hockey to continue but wanting stuff to happen doesn't make the virus go away any sooner. GCG!
  6. Yeah. I particularly don't like it when people say we "should" win games. That's stupidly arrogant and like you said leads to disappointment. Never underestimate the enemy. It's human nature to let the foot off the gas when you think you've got an easy win. In the NHL there are no easy wins. You'd think that we'd have figured that out by now. Go Canucks Go!
  7. It's the same as any other line, to be successful you have to score more goals than you let in. And so if you can't score a ton of goals that means that you better make sure that the other team doesn't score. There are many different ways to achieve that. People get way too specific about what each line has to do and where each player has to fit into their program. Sure some players have different strengths and weaknesses than others and coaches have to be aware of that, but hockey is hockey, and there are many different ways to play the game. And it's all good, as long as one scores more goals than you let in. GCG!
  8. Apparently two different worlds that speak the same language but still can't understand each other. Do Republicans even notice that they have been hoisted by their own petard? Do Democrats see their inherent hypocrisy? Both sides act like they are 100% correct all the time. Can't we humans just agree that we're pretty much all flawed and we're all just floundering around in a mysterious world mostly trying to do the right thing while having no real idea of what that actually is? A two party system seems to inevitably lead to extremism (people try to differentiate themselves by dreamily staring into the infinite space to the left and the right of center). A multi party system at least forces compromise and mostly has people looking towards the center and trying to get along. Well, at times at least. Maybe that's the best we can hope for. Not that we Canadians are perfect, far from it, but extremism doesn't seem to take hold as much here and I think having more respect for multiple points of view is both the chicken and the egg. However we still have to be careful not to go down that same road towards extremism and turning complex issues into false dichotomies. GCG!
  9. Obviously. But I didn't know the people who vote on these things actually stayed up late enough to watch our games. Will wonders never cease. GCG!
  10. I don't know what happened to the old Canucks that we were getting tired of, but these new Canucks are fun to watch. One game at a time. Two more points please. GCG!
  11. I don't think that we need to or should make any major roster moves until we see more what we can accomplish with our current talent. What we need is a bit more muscle to protect our skill guys. We don't need to tear it all down immediately just because we have new management. Finding enforcers and grinders is easier than finding high end skill. The hard work has already been done, we just need to fill in the holes. Petey's biggest problem at the moment is confidence. He's got the skill and creativity. We've all seen it. Gretzky had his Semenko. Bure had his Odjick. We need someone to protect Petey and he will likely blossom into the player we all know he can be. We know that the league isn't going to protect our guys so we have to protect our own. It's nothing new. We just went through a lot of changes in the off season and all the new players haven't gelled together yet for whatever reason (may have been Green, may have been something else). Whatever the reason we need to be a little patient and see if we can win with our current roster before we panic and sell the farm. We're already off to a good start. Go Canucks Go!
  12. Hit the rat. Hit him hard. Hit him often. And oh yeah, let's score some goals too. GCG!
  13. We get pushed around too much as it is and you want to trade away our biggest player for another forward (where we have plenty of talent already)? Myers actually skates pretty well for a big man and he has some offensive upside. He's not the shut down defender that we so badly need but he isn't as bad defensively as people think. So, NO to the trade proposal. I don't think that we should make any major moves until we know what we have. We've already had a lot of player turnover. Sometimes it takes players a little while to mesh with each other. I think the coaching and management changes were needed but now we need to be patient and work with what we have. Or at least find out more about what we have before we make panicky moves. I don't think our current record is an indication of our current talent. GCG!
  14. I agree. It should be a full boycott. It's a half-measure and doesn't really go far enough. It's like the West wants it's cake and eat it too. A diplomatic boycott angers China but doesn't have the real effect it should have. They still get to use our athletes as their propaganda pawns. I don't like it. It should be a full boycott. F the Chinese government (not the people, it's the government that's the problem). GCG!
  15. Go Canucks Go! A win to start the new era would be nice. Let's just start with one.
  16. That's the narrative, but who's narrative? I don't think that anyone other than Linden knows why he stepped down, and maybe even he doesn't. Speculation is fun but it doesn't mean that we know what actually happened behind the scenes. I'm more interested in what happens on the ice. GCG!
  17. I say we keep him simply because every time he is in the lineup we are a slightly better team. He doesn't put up big numbers but he has that certain intangible thing that can't be measured - he's got lots of clam sauce. If more people put out the effort that Motte did we'd have a lot more wins. And his energy and enthusiasm is infectious. Keep the energy guys and let the lazy guys go I say. GCG!
  18. I think lots of teams want Bo Horvat as their 2nd line center, including the Vancouver Canucks. I don't see what trading him for a gamble on a pick accomplishes. We already know he's a quality hockey player and he's got lots left in the tank. Bo Horvat is not the problem with this team and I don't think that trading him in our time of desperation is a good idea. GCG!
  19. Why not? Hughes is one of the best offensive D-men out there. Myers and OED are decent skaters and passers for their size. And we've got Schenn the offensive dynamo (OK, maybe that's going a bit too far but even he can score). Offence shouldn't be the problem. Defense however... In any case, I think we can still do well with the current line-up with a bit better organization. I don't have anything against Green but I think the coaching change should help the team. We'll see. GCG!
  20. I hope they win. Just to make the "fans" who want us to lose to look bad. Well, that and we need a few wins. Go Canucks Go!
  21. If it weren't for Demko we would have even fewer wins. He has single handedly saved some games for us and kept some close that shouldn't have been. Can that be said about anyone else? Garland is the most exciting player on the team right now and that's a pleasant surprise. I heard good things about him before he arrived but he's even better than expected in my book. He plays with speed, skill and aggression. If we could just get more players playing like that. GCG!
  22. We need someone who can actually clear the front of the net from time to time too. Maybe we can double shift him. GCG!
