  1. It's not a fair comparison. An office job is not a contact sport, well at least most office jobs, the chances of you getting body checked into the typing pool on the way to the water cooler is pretty low. Also, injuries are both a result of individual differences AND random chance. Paying people based on random factors is not good business no matter how you slice it (not to mention that it isn't fair either). An office employee missing time is not the same as getting injured in a professional contact sport. Go Canucks Go!
  2. I don't think anybody is complaining about the spear-in-the-groin thing, Marchand had it coming and I applauded like thousands of other hockey fans, but that doesn't give Prust a get out of jail free card nor tacit permission to be a douche the rest of his life. GCG!
  3. Shhh. I agree, but don't let the secret out. I mean I like Hughes, a lot, and I want him to stay a Canuck, but if NJ wants to sell the farm to have all the Hughes in one basket, I say let them. GCG!
  4. Not even remotely funny. Masks save lives during a pandemic. The sheep are those who believe what they want to believe and ignore reality and important things like science. GCG!
  5. We shouldn't rely on any one tactic, we should mix it up, and keep 'em guessing. Go Canucks Go!
  6. The agent represents the player. So if the agent is being greedy it's really the player that is being greedy. We need to stop pretending like the players don't get a say in what their agents do. And the agents need to stop pretending that the players work for them. The agents work for the players and so the players need to take responsibility for the negotiating tactics and timing instead of pretending like they don't have anything to do with it. There's a lot of pretending going on and not much honesty. GCG!
  7. Yeah, I think Benning is doing a fine job keeping the prospects coming despite trading away a lot of picks in order to be competitive now. I like our team depth right now, with both vets and prospects. We have pretty good depth at every position, and NHL quality players that can step up when the inevitable injuries hit. Quite frankly with all our great young talent I was expecting our prospect list to look worse at this point. I think that we're in for a good year and we will be competitive for a while. I can hardly wait until the new season starts to see how it plays out on the ice. Go Canucks Go!
  8. I'm going 9-0. Why not be bold? The time to deal with realism is later, for now I'm going to pretend that we're going to win it all until proven otherwise. Go Canucks Go!
  9. I agree, aggressive agents are really annoying, especially when they put their own interests ahead of the teams of the players that they represent. The thing is that the players have to own some of this. They need to be in the driver seat and have the agent represent their interests (which should also consider the team's interests), not just be passive pawns of the system. It's too easy for players to sit back and let the agents do all the dirty work and pretend that they are somehow not involved and not responsible for it. The players are ultimately responsible for the agents' tactics and behavior because they are the ones hiring them. Go Canucks Go!
  10. Yeah, I think we're fine at center. The thing is that I think we're OK on D too. We don't have any superstars (Quinn is close but he has to get stronger and better at the defensive side of things - and OEL is also close, even though he may be past his prime I think he still has lots to contribute - we'll see). What we do have suddenly is a lot of depth of NHL quality D. Jim really went all out to restock the defence. I'm hoping that the sum of the parts will be better than the star power. I'm really excited to see how it all plays out on the ice. I think we've got a really good chance at having a great season. Pessimism before the season even starts is completely unnecessary. Go Canucks Go!
  11. Yeah, it was an interesting read, thanks. I more or less agree but while Rathbone may have a stronger upside I don't think it's as clear that Rathbone is obviously better all around (right now). The part I agree with is that they are both going to find their way into the line up one way or the other so the point about who is better is moot. We need them both to be good. Go Canucks Go!
  12. ... just signed to a three year deal according to TSN. AAV $2.65 million. That works for me. I hope he's as good as people are saying. Things are shaping up nicely. GCG!
  13. Why does it have to be either or, why not keep them both and hope that they both get regular spots, eventually? There's no rush to have them both in the lineup right away. Internal competition is good. Rathbone may have more offensive upside but there is more to NHL defence than just that. Juolevi is NHL ready now and so let's see what he's got. We need good defensive defencemen at this point and having extra guys that can step up when the inevitable injuries hit is not a bad thing. GCG!
  14. Good point. Toughness is about team toughness. Everybody has to have everybody else's back. It can't be up to one or two designated tough guys to take on all the rough stuff. But that said we need more guys with a bit of pushback and I'm rooting for him to make the team. It's a nice story to see a guy from a small town in the north to make the big show. Go Keeper Go!

    Madison Bowey | D

Nothing against Bowey, we need all the depth we can get and I hope he can contribute, but I'm hoping that Keeper steps it up and takes an NHL roster spot. That would be awesome. I'm rooting for the guy from the small town to make the big show. Go Canucks Go!
  16. Makes sense to me to require vaccinations if they are available (which they are). I would allow a few medical exceptions, based on one's doctor's advice, but without a valid medical excuse I agree with requiring vaccinations to attend a large voluntary group event at a private facility. Anti-vaxxers can choose to stay at home if they like. GCG!
  17. Do you stay up at night thinking up ways to scare young children? If it ain't broke, we don't need to fix it. I don't understand people who aren't happy unless there is an issue to fret about. There's enough to worry about without digging for it. GCG!
  18. I loved the Sedins, and still do, but in terms of pure hockey skill it's Pavel Bure all day long. That guy in his prime was pure magic on ice. He was a danger to score any time he touched the puck anywhere on the ice. GCG!
  19. Meh. I'm fine with Petey wanting to win. That's a good thing. I'm not fine with agents and reporters trying to whip up controversies where there really aren't any. It's a non story for slow news times. I'm not worried. Petey will sign a reasonable contract with us and we'll have a good year. I mean nothing is guaranteed in this life but it seems pretty likely. I'm tired of the business side of things I want the boys to get back on the ice! GCG!
  20. The Rathbone vs Juolevi debate is getting a bit stale. I want them both to take a step forward this year. If we can get good reliable play out of our vets and new acquisitions, and have our internal talent improve at the same time then we've got a great shot at being a good team this year. I think that Juolevi might be a bit ahead in terms of development and maybe Rathbone has a higher ceiling, but it's not clear one way or the other. What is clear is that it's time for Juolevi to step up and show us all what he can do right now. And I think he's going to do fine, he just has to be a bit more consistently physical to go along with his calm accurate passing and general level headed play. Go Canucks Go!
  21. It should at least be one of the many factors that goes into it. It is at least a valid reason not to pay him 9 mil per season as some other guys are being paid. I also hope they don't base his pay entirely on other over-inflated salaries that are being handed out. If we want to win a cup, and I hope everyone involved wants to, we can't overspend on any one player. Everyone has to buy in as a group even at the negotiating table. GCG!
  22. I agree that Ferland is exactly the type of player that we need. The thing is that, sadly, he isn't that player anymore. He's making the right call in hanging them up. Health always comes first. Thanks to Michael for giving it a go for us, and we could have really used a healthy Ferland but he's done. Optimism is great but one has to deal with reality sometimes too. GCG!
  23. Only one? Buy yeah, I'm excited for our revamped defence too. GCG!
  24. If so, that's pretty low class. But, then again, what do we expect from scumbag agents? They keep lowering the bar on what constitutes "honest" negotiations. I'll bite: they have no ethics and don't care who they hurt in order to squeeze out every last dime for themselves (there may be exceptions but that at least seems to be the general rule). The thing is that it reflects badly on the athletes they represent, whether or not the athletes themselves think that they aren't party to the ugly negotiating tactics. GCG!
