Just for perspective, we're in the exact same position that the Colorado Avalanche are in. We're down 2-1 against a quality opponent in our second round playoff series. It's an uphill battle but it's still possible for either the Avs or the Canucks to advance. This is definitely not a dire situation. I trust the character of our excellent young team to come up with a better effort tonight. Win or lose I love this team we've got going right now. This is where we want to be folks. In the mix. It won't be easy but only fools thought it would be. Go Canucks Go!

That's a bit harsh don't you think? I mean they didn't play well in this one game but there is plenty to be proud about with this young team. And heck, the series isn't even over yet. In fact they are not even on the brink of elimination. They can still lose another game and still win the series (not that I think that's a good idea). This Canucks team has a habit of bouncing back after a bad loss. Let's see if they can do it again before we write them off completely. That's for the media to do, not fans of the team. Let's not give up just yet. Go Canucks Go!

My first take on this was that we should play the games. It's a huge game for the Canucks and of course as a long time Canucks fan I'm stoked for it. But on further consideration, I think that it isn't such a bad thing to postpone the game. It is already having the desired effect of having people talk about the issue, reluctantly or not. At first I have to admit that I was kind of embarrassed that it was Horvat and the Canucks that were spear-heading this but upon further consideration I see it as a classy move. We'll still get to see our Canucks play (probably) and maybe we help reduce racism at the same time. I'm still pumped for game 3 though. It's going to be yuuuge. Go Canucks Go!

The NHL has already said that they aren't going to cancel games unless it is driven by the players through the NHLPA (as per TSN). The NHL itself doesn't seem to want to cancel or postpone games but they are leaving it up to the players. I have to assume that they are talking it over right now. Personally I'd like to see the games go ahead but it isn't up to me. Go Canucks Go!

Either NHL referees are highly incompetent or there is something fishy going on. I don't think it is a "conspiracy" against the Canucks (like I've said multiple times I think that it is league-wide). My point is that the NHL seems to be using refereeing in order to artificially boost the perceived entertainment value in order to sell hockey to non-hockey markets. If you disagree why do you think that NHL refereeing is so darn inconsistent. Of course everyone makes mistakes and refereeing a game like hockey is difficult but there is something more to it than that. Or at the very least it sure looks that way. What's your opinion on why NHL refereeing is so inconsistent? Anybody? And for the bonus question, can anybody explain what "game management" really means and why it isn't a despicable policy? I can't see any reason why it exists other than a cynical attempt to manipulate the game in order to make more money from non hockey fans (while at the same time degrading the game for people who already like it). Go Canucks Go!

I'm suggesting that NHL refereeing is being manipulated by the management. It's not just about the Canucks, it's league-wide. Like I said, I believe that they are doing so because they believe they have a right to maximize their profit. And they seem to think that by manipulating the refereeing they are making their "product" better. I think that it is making it worse. I don't have proof of this but that is my considered opinion after being a hockey fan for more than 50 years. You are free to disagree and hold whatever opinion you like. Why do I watch hockey? Do you really need to ask that? Just because I think that there is a problem with the way the NHL officiates its games doesn't mean that I no longer like hockey. In fact I even went out of my way to say that in my post. You are very close to ad hominem here and maybe you can make a stronger argument as to why you think that NHL refereeing is fair instead of attacking me. Pro wrestling "referees" are also humans. That doesn't explain their behavior. The NHL is going in that direction with their refereeing and are actually not far away in my opinion. They sometimes make the right call but suspiciously they look the other way at critical times as well. Yes we all make mistakes but sometimes those mistakes are judgement mistakes and are made in board rooms and hidden from public view. Go Canucks Go!

Complaining about poor officiating when it more or less balances out in the end is indeed a silly pastime but when there is consistently unbalanced officiating there is a problem. And the problem with officiating in the NHL is massive and needs to be discussed. It's not just in Canucks games it is a league-wide problem. It's the elephant in the room that some people can't see. The problem as I see it is that the NHL is essentially a business first and a sports league second. They sell an entertainment product and they try to maximize their profit by using refereeing to enhance the entertainment value. They even more or less admit that with their "game management" BS. Some business-minded people don't even have a problem with that. I mean why not try to maximize profit by "enhancing" entertainment value? The problem is that not everyone has the same idea of what constitutes entertainment. The NHL is intent on trying to sell hockey to non hockey markets in order to grow the game and maximize their profits and people who actually care about the game (i.e. us Canadians) are consistently left out of the equation. Personally I would rather see more integrity and respect for the game (not to mention respect for the players) instead of growth and profiteering but I don't get to make that call. So we are stuck with NHL refereeing that approximates professional wrestling refs. Some people don't see any problem with that. However some people do have a problem with that and it is appropriate to say so if you actually love the game of hockey more than just making as much money as possible regardless of what it is doing to the game. The game of hockey is interesting enough for some without having to "enhance" the spectacle factor. The NFL on the other hand works very hard to keep penalties consistent between the regular season and the playoffs. In the NFL a penalty is a penalty no matter the score or the time on the clock. That is clearly not true for the NHL. They can't even admit that the rules change for the playoffs. Which they obviously do. It's about time that NHL gets called out for that lie, and many more. Once you start messing with the refereeing things go sideways, and they are going sideways in my opinion. I still love hockey and the Canucks but the NHL is bush-league at best and probably highly corrupt. That said, I still want the Canucks to win the mug of mugs. Go Canucks Go!

Ethanol is ethanol. If you drink too much (no matter how it is prepared) you're going to get a hangover. The rest is just additives and flavouring. Of course cheap additives and bad flavourings can make it worse. Tequila is awesome but there is no magic formula to eliminate hangovers or any of the other health risks associated with alcohol. I feel like that weak call on Edler took all the steam out of our physical play. We need to start by skating and making some hits. We're playing too passively so far. It's so frustrating that they're allowed to be as physical as they like but if we make a hit we're more likely than not getting the penalty. Of course I'm not unbiased but it sure looks that way. Seems like the harder they work, the better the luck is. Funny how that works. Go Canucks Go! -

FIFY. Let's get one more win against St Louis before we get too interested in the next round but it definitely isn't going to suck if we get there. We've got nothing to lose and all the pressure will be on them (either Col or Vegas). And besides if we want to be a good team, and we're pretty darn close to being there already, we have to take on all comers. I'm not scared of either one of the Avs or Knights. Bring 'em on I say, though we still have to focus on finishing off the Blues first. Awesome win last night, let's keep it going. Go Canucks Go!
