Should Gino Ojdick be in the Ring of Honour?
Kevin Biestra replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
Virtually nobody is saying Gino's # should be retired. I think he's damn near the perfect candidate for the ROH though. All that would be nice if he was up over the 600 or 700 game club like most of the ROH guys. I think he and Tiger Williams were a cut above the typical team enforcer in the way they captured the heart of the city. Every city liked their enforcers but those two guys rose to another level. You say the ROH should be for accomplishments and dedication to the team rather than sentimentality. My case for Gino is based largely on that, accomplishments and dedication to the team. Top 20 in career NHL PIMs, primarily with Vancouver, plus his name on the Campbell Bowl. Who was more dedicated to the team than Gino? But opinions will differ, what can you do. -

Reverse retro jerseys - Complete list
Kevin Biestra replied to Rubik's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Wow, looking at the rest of these for comparison, the Canucks really did a good job. Most of these jerseys are the stuff you have to pick up with a little plastic bag when you walk your dog in the park. -
Gradient looks quite a bit better than the version with Virtanen that was going around. They picked a good green to do it with and faded it at the right rate at the right place. Still not really my thing but they couldn't have done it much better if that was the way they were going.

Very mature and intelligent. You're really elevating the discussion in this thread. -

The point should be obvious as it is evident in the statistics provided. Do you get your back up like this any time someone disagrees with a point? Jack played the equivalent of two seasons of hockey. Who is getting ROH for that? Especially with no team accomplishments? Go ahead and make a case for his assistant coaching if you want (it wasn't in your post that I replied to) but you're opening a can of worms for tons of people to get in if you do. -

Jack played 167 games for the Canucks. Gino played 444 games and had 2127 PIM and a Cup final run. -
Should Gino Ojdick be in the Ring of Honour?

Part of the original 1970 team with Kurtenbach. Canucks captain. His record for assists in a season stood for decades on end until Henrik Sedin. Lesser known fact but right after Boudrias' time with the Canucks and right before Richard Brodeur's time with the Canucks they were teammates on the Quebec Nordiques and won the WHA's Stanley Cup together. Beating Bobby Hull in the final to do it. -
Should Gino Ojdick be in the Ring of Honour?

Yes, I would put Gino up there regardless of illness. I've said elsewhere that Gino and Tiger should be up there to honour the way they fought for their teammates but also their role in hockey which is now extinct. The classic enforcer and the way they bled shouldn't be forgotten and the ROH is a great way to do that. I've said for a while now that the ROH should include Brodeur, Odjick, Williams and Boudrias. Hopefully nobody needs to get to sick for people to start thinking about it. Unfortunately we missed our chance to put Boudrias up there when he could enjoy it. -

It's the Ring of Honour not the Ring of Talent... -

I've been campaigning to have Gino in the ROH for a while now. -
Good for him. Some guys have a hard time moving on from the dream when water finds its level as an adult. Every town has at least one kid phenom that people will bet their life is going to the NHL and he might not even make it to the ECHL. Making it to the ECHL or any lower pro level gets laughed at by NHL fans but it's no small achievement.

I'm not really a fan. The gradient thing rarely works and while blue-green is maybe one of the slightly better gradients I've seen, it still isn't as good as a solid color. I've seen a bit of campaigning for green jerseys in this thread but I don't think green is a very good color for anything but trim and highlights... I'm not a big fan of the green outline inside the logo...doesn't really work for me. All in all, the jersey isn't hideous...but I would have it below pretty much everything in Canucks history aside from a couple things like the salmon gradient jersey. I preferred the blue and green flying V that appeared earlier in the thread. But I prefer the actual black, orange and yellow flying V's to that, so... Anyway...I don't really care for this new one but at the same time I won't be complaining and vomiting if they wear it for a few games.

Gradin had 5 points in 3 games in the playoffs of his rookie season. McLean had the 1989 playoff series against Calgary in his second real NHL season and first playoffs. He had played 2-4 regular season games in two earlier seasons as a minor league callup. Bure had 6 goals and 10 points in 13 games in the playoffs of his rookie year.

110 was Pavel. Henrik was 112. In both cases, a fairly modest and breakable record as franchise records go, especially for a 50 year old team. Elias will definitely need an upward trajectory in his development, but there's no reason not to expect that.
-
I'd say Kirk McLean, Gradin, Bure and some others hit the ground running in the playoffs as rookies or close to it. A name most don't know nowadays but Lars Molin could be included there.

I was responding to these words of yours. "The Black Red and Yellow was not heavily advocated until the 50th jerseys came out, people are just riding the hype train."
-
The WCE teams were just a goalie away. They had a deadly first line and good depth on D with Sopel and Malik, etc.

Safe to say Hughes is on the same level as Dahlin now?
Kevin Biestra replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
I wonder what it would take. The list of defensemen who have scored 100 points is as short as the list of forwards who have scored 150. -
Glad it's positive memories for you. If you had been around back then...might be different. The Canucks were barely removed from game 7 of the final and then they made a new jersey to usher in the new Messier era with the new captain. It was off putting even before learning how bad Messier was going to be on the ice and in the locker room.

It's the best time for new dynamic defensemen since the early 80s, but I have to say it probably isn't the same as then. Coffey, Bourque, Murphy, Reinhart, Housley, Babych, Stevens. Then by 1984 or so add Chelios, MacInnis, Steve Duchesne, Kevin Hatcher, Dave Ellett, James Patrick, Garry Galley and soon Jeff Brown and Gary Suter. Plus Doug Wilson, Randy Carlyle and Reed Larson were rookies in the late 70s. That's like 40% of the top 50 all time scoring defensemen making their debut within around 6 years of each other (and all of the top 5 all time within about four seasons). -

The very day they switched from the skate jerseys to the orca when they introduced Messier, tons of people were immediately like wtf and complaining about it. Yay, we switched to the Rangers colors! Pretty much the only person smiling from ear to ear when Messier lifted his arms wearing the orca was Messier.

I was joking. But yeah it seems like an alternate universe where he was a leader on other teams.
