  1. cool, put backwards skating into the pros list, now anyone got a 'sideways' take?
  2. 2 main ones, conservative and a more liberal one. Then very concervative and a Green/social justice that are on the fringes. We have pretty bipolar politics here though compared to Canada. When I lived there I always appreciated your balanced news reporting not subject to crazy hyperbole like here in Oz. Oz media is closer to the US than to you guys unfortunately.
  3. true but remember when Biega was put into winger duties, he didnt look that dynamic, not as good as Virtanen I reckon.
  4. I always wondered what Hansen would have looked like, Kesler too maybe?
  5. this is more like it. :). what was big Buff like as foreward? I cant remember apart from him planting himself in front of Luongo.
  6. yikes this is quickly turning into "Burrows....do we really need him?". re the vision. you are right, he lacks the IQ. But I think the blue line and the net create focal points that simplify this part of the game to an extent.
  7. the fine is about $50,. they set up booths in hospitals to get people that are sick etc. They do have booths set up for homeless etc but really if you have a good excuse or 'no fixed adress' its not a big deal. I think the big thing is that is stops 'voter apathy' where people cant be stuffed getting off the couch. AUstralia has a pop of only 1/2 canada so its probably easier to do these things I admit.
  8. Time for a kooky offseason thread. As per the thread title. Is is possible to move Jake to defense? Disclaimer, yes this is a terrible idea but its off season and I'm sure we can have some fun discussion around other players who could move around positions. Pros: Skating, Jake skates well, he is fast, wheeling out from the goal line seems to be once of his strengths. Shot: good, powerful shot, has played the point of PP2 on occasion. Strength: big strong dude, checks well. complexity: I think Jake plays better with the game 'in front of him', he seems to get a bit bamboozled in the offensive zone, he doesnt seem to participate in the cycle and doesnt use his team mates that well on long shifts in the ozone, better on the rush. NYR Brendan Smith who plays both positions says that D verses F "there is so many more moving parts when playing forward, knowing where to be at the right time." Cons: Backwards: Can Jake skate backwards? Who knows....probably. He does play competitive roller hockey which I understand is a bit like basketball in that players cycle around and play all positions. Complexity: is D harder than forward? While the sensible answer is yes...playing D would simplify some aspects of the game. Ie get the puck back, if your back is turned, get the puck back, listen for instructions from either Demko or Edler, they will tell you what to do. Sideways: Can Jake walk the line? never seen it, he might need to stay back after practice to learn that one. One on One board/puck battles: rubbish, he gets walked a bit, we all know that. But for the sake of this thread I am going to blame him being paralyzed with indecision due to the complexity of being a forward being a defender would simplifly this aspect of the game IMO. Discussion: Players who changed from D to forward or vice versa. Brent Burns, Byfuglien, Howe are some of the big ones, didnt Burrows play D for one period back in 2010's? Thoughts, criticisms? :)
  9. Here in Oz everyone has to vote. Its the law, the penalty is a moderate fine. Not sure why other places make it so hard. Come election day schools become voting centres and usually the kids of the school sell sausages in bread with onions to raise a bit of cash. Instead of voting we say ' im going down to get my democracy sausage'
  10. Tanev made himself a star through his hard work. The style he plays he could have a career ending injury pretty easily, I think he earned his pay day.
  11. It woyld fairer if we got the second back now that he won't sign. Oh well. At least it showed our guys what it takes to win in the play-offs. And maybe that's why guys like oel want to sign here?
  12. Can we trade his rights back to la for a smallish centre prospect and a second?
  13. 2-1 nucks gaudette gets one with demko chucking in the empty netter from downtown.
  14. Is julolevi really playing? I dislike david perron, hopefully stetcher tunes him up.
  15. I noticed that too, didnt he do that once with success last year in an overtime game?
  16. I'm lucky-ish as i live in Australia so its pretty much impossible for the game to get spoiled unless I check social media at lunchtime. On the other hand I dont get to talk canucks hockey with anyone. Although a dr. From richmond bc spotted my nucks shirt under my nursing scrubs the other day.
  17. Julolevi played some pretty good minutes...good poke check, a few good head fakes, bit a bit adventurous on that last shift lol.
  18. The was 1 shift in I think the 3rd where he had what looked like a giveaway but in then pearson appeared to have no stick? I wonder if pearson broke his stick on that one? I thought he looked ok. Didn't seem too keen to skate the puck, but looked prettty strong on the boards and he blocked that 2 on 1 pass.
