[Signing] Canadiens re-sign Michael Pezzetta
qwijibo replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Xhekaj’s younger brother Florian plays for Hamilton. He’s a winger. I don’t know if he has the same drive/potential as Arber but he’s 18 so I think he’s draft eligible. Be interesting to see if some team takes a flyer on him after seeing what his brother has done -
I think Montreal would be happy to move Edmundson, they have a number of young D that are NHL ready. But I don’t really see a fit with anyone Vancouver could/would offer. I think they’ll likely try to move him for futures come the trade deadline. At full retention his cap hit is only $1.75m for this season.

He stepped in and looked quite solid in the second pairing last session. He didnt look out of place at all. Obviously there were some occasional mistakes but certainly no more than the chaos giraffe lol. I suspect he’ll do even better this season. Had 4 goals and 15 points in 39 games.

If Montreal is moving a defenceman it won’t be for another higher paid less useful defenceman. They have Savard , Barron and Kovecevic on the right side. All are better choices than Myers.

Despite Vancouvers reputation of being soft and not sticking up for each other, they actually came in 5th in fighting majors this past season. They don’t have anyone other teams fear but they do have guys that’ll drop the gloves -
Offseason Moves - Trades and Signings (PROPOSAL)

It cost Calgary a 1st to move 1 year of Monahan @ $6m. It all depends on how desperate Vancouver is to clear space -

I think it’ll cost a 2nd (minimum) to move him -

I just don’t think Myers will waive for Chicago. And if he does it’s going to cost Vancouver an asset to move him. Taking Myers really doesn’t do anything for them and is immensely helpful to the Canucks. Chicago isn’t going to help Vancouver out for free when other teams will pay to make use of their cap space -

The Myers to Chicago trade seems unlikely to me for a number of reasons 1) Myers has a 10 team NTC. I imagine Chicago/Arizona would be on that list 2) Myers’s bonus isn’t paid until Sept 15. I doubt any team will be waiting until the eve of training camp to try to get to the cap floor 3). Just because Chicago has a lot of cap space it doesn’t diminish the value of that cap space. Chicago has lots of money so I doubt they care that much about the real dollars/cap hit ratio that much. Several teams with cap issues will be coming to Chicago to dump cap and they’ll be giving up tangible assets (high picks) to dump those contracts. Them taking Myers without done sort of sweetener seems unlikely. -
[Signing] Canadiens re-sign Michael Pezzetta

He’s a solid 4th liner/13 forward. is he an everyday player on a contender? Probably not. But he’s a good player to have on the roster. . He’s a tough 6’1” that can and will fight above his weight class. He can skate and chip in a few points here and there. It’s a no risk reward contract for a good soldier. It’s a 1 way contract that’s well under the threshold for a contract that can be entirely buried in the minors It’s a win/win for both the team and the player. -

Good deal. Gritty 4th liner who can skate, chip in offensively. Not the biggest guy but he will stick up for teammates. Plus he brings some personality to the team. -
Montreal wouldn’t

If I’m the Islanders I’m reluctant to make a trade for an “offensive” Vancouver player after seeing how much of Horvat’s success was due to the free wheeling system the team plays. I’m guessing they’d take a wait snd see approach when evaluating Boeser

[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return
qwijibo replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Probably not. He played his last game in Vancouver what, 6 years ago? And some people are still obsessed with him. -
Totally realistic. Said no one, ever. I’m not sure you could even pull this off in EA set to easy

Reclamation Trade Targets - Dvorak or Johansen
qwijibo replied to bh90's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I’m a Montreal fan. I watch every game. Dvorak struggled under Ducharme but like many others he was much better under MSL. Montreal plays a fast transition game and Boeser is too slow to fit their style. He also isn’t much of a shooter anymore since his back injury. The bulk of his points last season came as assists. Montreal has been working on building strength down the centre. They have Suzuki and Dach as 1/2 (although before getting injured Dach played a number of games as a winger on the top line with Caufield and Suzuki. He was forced into the 2C slot when Monahan got injured in December. Dvorak is a solid 3 C and Evans is a speedster 4C that can chip in offensively but isn’t great in the circle. They have a few C prospects that look promising ( Beck, Mesar) but neither is ready for NHL action. They have a journeyman types in Pitlick but he’s better suited for the wing. They’ll most likely take a C with the 5th OA this year but that player won’t be ready for a few years. Wing wise on the right side they have Caufield Anderson Gallagher Armia. They also have Gurianov and Pezetta thst can plsy either side. Plus they have last years 1st OA Slafkovsky who hopefully will be healthy and will adjust to the North American game in the next couple seasons. They also have a number of NHL ready or almost ready prospects who saw time last season with the big club( Farrell, Ylonen, Richard, Heineman, RHP). Farrell put up huge numbers in the NCAA the past couple years, RHP scored 14 goals in 34 games with Montreal last year. Both can likely put up close to what Boeser would. Plus they have highly regarded prospects like Kidney and Roy). So as things stand they’re well positioned for the future but need a placeholder like Dvorak at C until their young guys are ready to step in. The team has been crippled by injuries with more than 700 man games lost each season. A healthier season will go a long way to helping them improve in the standings. Boeser brings nothing to the team that one of their young guys like RHP cant. And they don’t have a $6.65m cap hit. That cap can be better allocated (including a raise for Caufield). -
I think the Montreal connection is overplayed. His agent said he’d love to play there but he’s subsequently said he’s open to playing in other markets.

Reclamation Trade Targets - Dvorak or Johansen

Montreal needs Dvorak right now. They don’t need another winger. -
[PROPOSAL] Thatcher Demko Trade Proposals
qwijibo replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Right now it’s tough to say what he is. His injuries are concerning and he doesn’t have much of an established track record as a starter. Much of his reputation comes from 1 hot play-in series in the bubble. That said goalies are largely a product of the system they play in. If he can stay healthy and Vancouver can improve team defence in front of him we could see a resurgence. So yeah. His value to other teams is limited. Silovs is largely untested at the NHL level and basing his potential on a short tournament that is FAR from best on best seems short sighted. I think you keep Demko and hope for the best while you see what you have in Silovs in a backup capacity -
[PROPOSAL] Thatcher Demko Trade Proposals
qwijibo replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Schneider had much better stats than Demko when he was moved. He also was coming off season where he was dominant. Demko was abysmal at the start of last year and missed most of the session. He was good when he came back. None of that suggests he’d return anywhere close to a top 10 pick. So using the value of the 9th Oa is extremely flawed. Given his extensive injury history , his limited time as a starter and his middling stats as a starter (albeit on a bad team). I’d be surprised if any team even gave up a late 1st for him atm. Couple that with the fact that this is projected to be a very strong draft year your value is completely skewed. Demko, 11 and tweener player/prospect like Hoglander doesn’t get Vancouver a sniff of 3OA -

Columbus isn’t moving 3rd OA. -
Reclamation Trade Targets - Dvorak or Johansen
qwijibo replied to bh90's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
No. Neither is a great option, but if Nashville has the choice of tying up $8m on Johansen or Boeser ($6.65m + $1.35m retention suggested in the trade) they’ll keep the more useful player in Johansen. -

Reclamation Trade Targets - Dvorak or Johansen
qwijibo replied to bh90's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Montreal was devastated by injuries last session. Comparing Boeser’s points to anyone in the Habs is meaningless. Suzuki was the only player to play all 82 games. Also. Vancouver played a wide open style last season. Look how Horvat’s production went off a Cliff once he was in a system that required defensive responsibility. Montreal has Caufield, Anderson, Gallagher, Armia plus several NHL ready prospects on the right wing. Caufield is their top right wing and Boeser isn’t even close. Anderson has great chemistry with Dach. All of them are better skaters than Boeser. So you want them to spend $6.65m on a 2/3 rd king winger? No. Dvorak is their 3C with Evans being their 4th. Beyond that they have a few prospects. Dvorak fills a need for them that Boeser doesn’t -
Reclamation Trade Targets - Dvorak or Johansen
qwijibo replied to bh90's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Dvorak fits Montreals needs. He gives them depth at the centre position. Boeser doesn’t fill a need for the team and doesn’t fit their style of play. They have a bunch of winger available to them and he can’t keep up with the speed game they play. Between a useful $4.45m 3C and a $6.65m winger who doesn’t fit their style nor fill a role they can’t fill internally, they’ll keep the 3C and I’m sorry. There’s no argument you can make to convince me any GM takes OEL and his contract of Johansen and his contract
