  1. Straight across maybe. It certainly wouldn’t be Domi + 16 OA
  2. He posted the same proposal on another thread. I’m pretty sure he’s serious
  3. Not even close to what Montreal would be looking for in return. Picking the French players (ones not even from Quebec, he’s from France) doesn’t add the value you think it does.
  4. Montreal says eff no. A couple of borderline NHL players and a 2nd is not going to get a 25 year old C who put up 72 points last season (when he was actually used as a C with decent line mates.). Picking the two French players off the roster isn’t going to add any value to the deal
  5. It’s actually been pretty rare the last several years. And now picks conditional on the player signing aren’t allowed. So we’ll likely see it even less
  6. Oh look. A delusional quantity for quality trade proposal where the Canucks give up bottom of the lineup spare parts, some how dump a $6m cap anchor, and get a top line player in return.
  7. Vancouver. WITH expansion draft protection. But there are a number of teams that could use him. Just because they don’t currently have cap space doesn’t mean they can clear enough space through trades and buyouts. He’s going to get his expansion draft protection. I’d bet money on it.
  8. I’m saying he won’t sign without expansion draft protection. Nowhere did I say the Canucks can’t roll with both players.
  9. In all seriousness. If Vancouver won’t give him a contract with term and expansion protection he’ll find those things elsewhere. Players don’t wait their entire careers to hit UFA status only to be a short term pawn for a team. He’s earned his opportunity to have security
  10. Points 3 and 4 probably aren’t compatible. I can’t imagine Markstrom signing a new contract without expansion draft protection. Why would he?
  11. Binnington won them a cup. Allen had several chances to be the #1 but faltered. They need cap space to re-sign Pietrangelo. I doubt a poor showing in a 6 game series weighed in much in the decision.
  12. Allen is only signed for 1 more year. This gives their top goaltending prospect Cayden Primeau time to develop. He’s close but not NHL ready. Next season he comes in on an ELC. The cap hit this season is somewhat inconsequential considering they haven’t spent to the cap in 3 seasons.
  13. Their other problem was backups who couldn’t win games resulting in having to overwork Price. Causing him to be worn out. This addresses a massive problem they’ve had since they traded away Halak
  14. So who’s the backup they could have gotten for 1-2 years that can bring what Allen brings for under $2m? Montreal has been looking for a bargain. Backup for awhile. In the last 5 years they’ve had Kinkaid, Montoya, Tokarski, Lindgren, Condon. I’m probably missing a couple. in the short term this deal does a lot of hood for a team that has been overplaying Price due to a lack of options. They haven’t spent to the cap in 3 seasons. This gives a development year to Primeau so he’s not thrown to the wolves. They still have trade chips like Domi and a crap load of picks and they still have cap space. Yes. They have a bit too much tied up in goaltending this year. But it will likely be a huge help to the team and it’s 1 year.
  15. I don’t recall criticizing any of Bennings deals. I have however ranted over a couple of Bergevin s deals. Lol
  16. And this deal doesn’t prevent them from addressing that through other transactions. But it does address a huge weakness in lineup. The extra $2m or so bring did you a 1B goalie isn’t going to be the tipping point.
  17. Montreal needed a backup regardless. So let’s say they found this reliable cheaper 1 year backup rental for $2.5m. What top 6 winger were they going to pick up with the extra $2m that makes them so much better than having a legit 1b backup? Yes. They’re paying a lot for 1 year. But it buys them time for their young guys to develop without making a long term salary commitment
  18. It’s not one or the other though. They still have the cap space and the assets to improve the forward corps
  19. It’s one season. Montreal hasn’t spent to the cap in 3 years. So what does it matter? Yes. It’s a pricy tandem for a year. But if that money wasn’t being spent anyway then it’s a great investment
  20. Once again. Their backups played 14 games this year and won 4 of them. Price was forced to play way more games than he should have. They still have cap space And a crap load of picks to address the weakness at F. This move improves the team. Even the usually negative Montreal press is pretty much universally endorsing this trade as a great move
