  1. Because they’re looking for a scoring winger. Someone how can bury the chances that a guy like Kotkaniemi will set up. Virtanen hasnt shown any scoring prowess (excluding one WHL season where he was a man against boys). He’s like a bigger version of Byron. Fast but no hands. (Except Byron is an excellent penalty killer).
  2. None of those pieces would be interesting to Montreal. Especially not Sutter. They need a legit top 6 scoring winger in return. Not a couple tweener/bottom sixers
  3. Honestly the article seems more about how much it would help Vancouver. It was also written prior to return to play. The playoffs were pretty telling and revealed how good Suzuki and Kotkaniemi could end up being. It also showed that Evans is more than capable of handling the 4C spot. It also shone a light on Montreal’s need for a legit top 6 scoring winger. Neither Virtanen nor Pearson are the piece they need.
  4. Carter Hart was almost as good. He certainly stole game 6. Montreal was more than just Price in that series. The controlled the players for large portions but they didn’t have the finish to put the puck in the net enough.
  5. Other than Boeser Vancouver doesn’t really have a piece they would move that would interest Montreal. Even then Boesers skating doesn’t fit with Montreal’s team speed
  6. Montreal took Philly to 6 games and dominated most of gave 6. If not for a couple bad bounces it would have gone to 7. They actually matched up very well against Philly.
  7. Virtanen doesn’t fill Montreal’s need for a legit top 6 scoring winger. I doubt they’d have any interest
  8. Virtanen May be worth that. But he doesn’t fit Montreal’s needs so I doubt they’d be the team to pay that
  9. The general consensus is the Leafs win this deal handily. I don’t know enough about the prospects involved to really analyze it
  10. I think you’re glossing over how much cap space is going to be worth for the next 3 seasons. Montreal isn’t going to waste $5+m on Virtanen and Baertschi and give up a second and a decent bottom 6 player to do it. also. Montreal needs a legit scoring top 6 winger. That’s not Virtanen.
  11. It’s interesting. Pittsburgh already owes a 1st from a previous trade but decided to keep this years 1st because is 15th OA.
  12. https://twitter.com/thefourthperiod/status/1298281412274028544?s=21 haha. Dubas should be sacked if that’s the case. Edit. Looks like he deleted the tweet
  13. Montreal needs actual top six wingers. Virtanen is another tweener. Something they have plenty of. Baertschi’s value has never been lower. With the cap going flat it will cost a lot to dump his salary. Evans has looked good in his first several games in Montreal. He’s defensively responsible (which is important to Therien). Take Baertschi out of the deal and Montreal may have a bit of interest in Virtanen (he fits in with their team speed), but not for a 2nd AND Evans.
  14. Domi wants to play C. With the unexpected emergence of Suzuki and Kotkaniemi at C he’s been used mostly as a winger. Montreal has other holes in the lineup so he’s a valuable trade chip. There are also rumours that he doesn’t get along with Julien.
  15. Pearson doesn’t really fill Montreal’s needs. Bergevin generally does 1 for 1 trades. So if you want Domi you need to expect to send back a player of roughly the same value.
  16. I realized that. But that belief is entirely overblown. I do think it’s the reason they traded for Drouin. And it likely played into Bergevin going after Danault (but he was part of the team that drafted Danault and he had a good idea what Danault could become). Overall I think it’s more of a bonus than an actual consideration when it comes to Montreal and trades.
