  1. I’ve been saying all along that people hoping he’d retire or mutually terminate his contract are going to be disappointed
  2. They can easily hit the floor just signing useful players.
  3. Eriksson might actually be thankful to be sent to the minors. His salary won’t be subject to escrow in the minors. He’d literally make $800k more playing in Utica than in Vancouver. That said. People were saying the exact same thing last offseason, essentially saying he was as good as gone because he’d be waived. Guess what. Never got waived. I doubt he does this year either
  4. You’re getting hysterical over a bottom pairing D because he’s big and strong to the point that you’re calling the GM a traitor. I would think Benning is far more invested in seeing the team succeed than you are. (Considering it’s his job)
  5. I think you may be overreacting by a fair margin. Tryamkin doesn’t even dominate in the KHL, a league where Nigel Dawes and Sven Andrighetto are stars. He most likely would have been a bottom pairing guy here.
  6. Lol. Could you pick a team with LESS cap space to work with?
  7. Ottawa doesn’t do the first deal (why would they?) The NJ deal is awful for Vancouver. Whats the motivation in trading away Miller? This retool actually sets back Vancouver significantly and makes them a worse team now and likely in the future.
  8. Domi and the team mutually agreed to wait 7-10 days before making a decision
  9. Yes. I believe so. It would also burn a year of his contract
  10. It’s funny how people in here salivated over other teams players that went this route (if it even happens). But now that it may apply to the Canucks it’s a stupid rule. I didn’t see anyone calling for the rule to be abolished when Calgary couldn’t get Fox to sign. Lol. He could very well sign in the next 3 days. If not, people can fret about it until next summer when he can walk
  11. He grew up a Boston fan. He’s from that area. There are articles going back as far as last year discussing the fact t that he’s well aware that he can go UFA as soon as next year. And his quotes from this March where he says it’s his dream to be an NHL player but he won’t rush the decision “The Canucks have expressed interest (in having me turn pro) and that’s something I’m really excited about because it means I’m taking the right steps. But honestly, with everything going and how chaotic things are, and school stopping and hockey coming to an abrupt end like it has, my family and I just didn’t feel this is the right time to make that decision. It just didn’t feel right. We’re going to make that decision later on.” I could definitely be wrong. All of that could mean nothing. But it doesn’t seem like he’s in a huge rush to be a Canuck, and he can continue his education and sign anywhere he wants next summer.
  12. It wouldn’t surprise me if he opts to do another year at Harvard and goes UFA next summer.
  13. Romanov was taken 34th in the 2018 entry draft and is considered one of the top NHL affiliated prospects. By signing now he burns a year off his ELC
  14. Not a chance in hell of Ottawa considering this
  15. Tanev is a pending UFA, his rights are worth practically nothing. And given Stetchers qualifying offer of $2.35m I doubt you’ll find many interested parties
  16. Buffalo would want Pettersson + for Eichel. How would you feel about that? Lol
  17. Higgins was a 1st round pick. But he was 14th overall
  18. I think we’ll see a lot more hockey deals and far fewer players for picks deals. Cap space is going to be at a premium and dumping even marginal players will cost a team if they aren’t willing or able to take cap back
  19. Tough to have a leg to stand on when the board of governors (ie the owners) voted unanimously to institute the recapture penalty. That means the Aqualinis voted yes too. Move on.
  20. The formula for calculating the penalty was the same for every case. Vancouvers penalty is higher because the benefitted more, traded away the contract, and only had it spread over 3 seasons.
  21. Except you’re wrong. LA with Richards NJ with Kovalchuk Florida with Luongo Vancouver with Luongo
  22. Spilt milk. It would have been better if they got the initial salary cap structure right so it didn’t leave a loophole for GM’s to exploit. it would have been better if every GM heeded the leagues warning to not circumvent the spirit of the salary cap, instead of just most GM’s adhering to the request. It’s been a fluid and complicated situation from day one. The idea that a team could hit with such a massive single season penalty never occurred to them. It came about as the result of a trade. Something they clearly didn’t factor in. They fixed it once the identified the issue and had the opportunity to fix it ( renegotiating the CBA).
