  1. What’s the incentive for Tanev to take the risk? If he gets hurt or has a poor season he’s screwed. Unless they’re overpaying him for that one season I can’t imagine why he would take a 1 year contract unless it’s the only option he has on the table. Sure. He likes Vancouver. But money and security talk. He’s a 1st time UFA who’s had durability issues. If another team comes calling with a 3-4 year deal, he takes it
  2. So there are only two teams in the league that need D? In Tanev doesn’t get term here he’ll go elsewhere. A 1 year contract does him no good
  3. The flaw in your logic with “saving a million/per player sent down” is that somebody has to fill those vacant slots. Even if it’s a young guy from Utica that still eats up all/most of the cap savings from burying the vet in the minors. There’s really next to no savings to be had.
  4. For another opinion. ESPN had Denisenko at 8 in March. Podkolzin at 11. Everyone is going to have a different take. But regardless, he’s a top prospect at the moment.
  5. Denisenko is a top 5 prospect right now. I seriously doubt Florida would give him up for Virtanen. (TSN actually had Denisenko ranked as the 2 nd best NHL affiliated prospect back in January. Podkolzin, for the record, was ranked 14) I think you need to set your sights a little lower
  6. Fleury has had the better career, but Hellybuyck is the favourite to win the Vezina this year. It’s not even close between those two atm.
  7. Markstrom takes all the risk in that scenario with very little upside. He’s a UFA coming off a really good year. If he gets injured next year or has a bad season his bargaining power is gone. I’d be willing to bet there’s not a chance in hell that he’s willing to sign a 1 year deal
  8. I doubt Virtanen has the value to pull a 1st atm. Vancouver is way better off keeping him and hoping he continues to break out. In a flat cap world It’s doubtful that Tryamkin’s rights are enough for a team to take on a cap dump
  9. I think it’s Hellebuyck’s award this season hands down.
  10. Meh. Comes off as a rant by a fan. Markstrom was 11th in wins, 11 in save%, 22nd in GAA. (Among goalies that started at least 30 games. He was a difference maker for the Canucks this season. No doubt. But it’s not unreasonable to not have him in the Vezina conversation
  11. I don’t disagree. He’s a great player. Probably safe to call him a top 20 RW. I was just confused by you saying he was the 4th most productive. Lol
  12. As per Dhaliwal https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1sr9881 “There was some confusion about Tanev in an article last week that he was willing to take a 1 year deal in free agency. After talking to various sources, there is no way Tanev will accept a 1 year deal, players work hard to become UFA’S, a 10 year veteran and a top 4 defenseman like Tanev will be looking for term on the market. You dont wait 10 years to become a UFA and sign for 1 year, it is not happening, you go for market value and Tanev will be no different.Tanev’s agent Wade Arnott : “Chris’ preference is to find a way to stay and resign an extension in Vancouver but his contract status will take off itself in time. There are many things yet to unfold for the Canucks including their potential return to play playoff format this summer. “If money does free up, the Canucks will have a shot at Tanev but if it does not, he should do fine on the free agent market.
  13. Uhm. Based on what? He’s nowhere near 4th in points by a real. He’s also way down the list in points per game. So what stat are you looking at
  14. First off. Performance bonuses aren’t allowed in a standard NHL contract. They’re reserved for players in entry level deals or players signing 35+ contracts “ PERFORMANCE BONUSES What players may earn in performance bonuses? Performance bonuses will only be permissible for the following types of players: (1) players on entry-level contracts; (2) players signing one-year contracts after returning from long-term injuries (players with 400 or more games who spent 100 or more days on injured reserve in the last year of their most recent contract); and senior veteran players who sign a one-year contract after the age of 35.” Second, if Vancouver isn’t willing go to sign Markstrom to more than 1 year I’m sure he will easily find a team that will. Signing a 1 year deal is a huge risk for him. He could get injured or just have a bad year, then his value is in the tank.
  15. Maybe that’s something that hasn’t been ironed out yet with the players union. They can’t just arbitrarily decide these things. The players need to agree to those things.
  16. Only if the cap drops. In which case a mechanism that reduces salary just helps a team get down to the new lower cap. It’s not going to artificially create cap space. If you have cap space issues in a flat cap situation they’re not going to give teams a way to spend more. The owners don’t want anything that’s compounding their losses.
  17. They need to factor in whether or not the league will be able to get the playoffs in (and avoid massive penalties from the tv networks). That revenue (or lack there of) will impact the cap. They’re not waiting on it to make things difficult for GM’s. They simply can’t calculate it until they know if the return to play plan will actually work
  18. Markstrom has to think about himself first. The team second. I’d be shocked if he signed a 1 year deal. I seriously doubt that he cares about Vancouver having expansion draft issues.
  19. I’m curious. What exactly do you think the NHL would go to “screw this up”? This is between the Canucks and Tryamkin’s agent
  20. Perhaps. But I doubt it’s a magic bullet that will let teams get out of bad contracts like Erikssons
  21. Tanev’s statement was reportedly misquoted. He’s not willing to sign a 1 year deal
  22. I responded to the wrong person with this reply. Lol. But yes. It’s going to get interesting
  23. As of right now, no , no fans will be allowed. Who knows how things might progress though
  24. I’m a little confused by your valuations. A 1st for Boeser seems realistic (not top 10, but beyond that, definitely ). But a big young 40 point top 2/3 D plus a high 2nd seems like a massive overpay by Buffalo. I’d think even straight up would be a stretch considering how much teams value D compared to wingers
