  1. I don’t love the retroactive punishment. But the CBA allowed for the contract when it was signed. They couldn’t follow through on the threats of consequences for teams breaking the spirit of the CBA until the new CBA was signed. This wasn’t out of left field. Teams were warned
  2. They had to approve it because strictly speaking it was a legal contract. That said Gillis was fully aware that it violated the spirit of the CBA with regards to cap circumvention and knew there would be consequences (as the league earned teams not to circumvent the cap). It ducks that it went down like it did. But Gillis knew what he was doing and wanted a chance at the cup over worrying about future punishment for his actions
  3. It’s not that Gillis found a loophole that hardly anyone else did. Teams were warned not to circumvent the cap. Gillis has a cup contender and decided to circumvent the cap to make a run. They knew there would be consequences. They didn’t care.
  4. And their cap situation will remain the same.
  5. On what basis? The recapture penalty was agreed upon by the BOG and NHLPA. It’s part of the CBA. Not only that. But the league enforced the penalty on two other contracts prior to Luongo retiring. Also. The Canucks had the opportunity to negate any potential risk penalty by using a compliance buyout on Luongo. They chose not to. There’s no leg to stand on at this point
  6. I think you’re ignoring the logistics needed. The NHL our out a list of requirements for hub cities. They want to play 3 games a day. They need an area with a modern ice facility for broadcast with quality ice. It needs to have at least four modern locker room facilities to accommodate the teams. There needs to be nhl quality practice facilities with at least 3 sheets of ice. there has to be enough luxury hotel accommodations for a number of teams and staff. There are only a handful of cities in North America that check all the boxes. Is there anywhere there that would even come close? (I’m genuinely asking)
  7. It’s probably safe to assume they looked for a trade before putting him on waivers. I don’t really agree with the whole “poor asset management” angle. Someone has to actually want to trade for him for him to have value. The fact that he cleared waivers twice suggests that he doesn’t have value (regardless of when he was put on waivers)
  8. Detroit drafted Seider 4 spots ahead of Podkolzin. If they wanted Podkolzin over Seider they would have taken him then.
  9. They have a few small forwards (Gallagher, Byron, Domi)and 1 small D (Mete) that pull down their average. As you said their D is quite big. Their forward Corp is smaller than usual. (That said, Domi and Gallagher play huge)
  10. Creative thinking. But I seriously doubt either team would be willing to do that. Way to convoluted and it’s doubtful either team would want to settle for a mutually agreed upon player if the player they really want is still on the board. The decision on whether or not Vancouver relinquishes their pick this year will be decided we’ll in advance of the draft, one way or another
  11. There’s a misconception that Montreal is still a team of midgets. I just took the opportunity to put that to rest
  12. I know you’re joking. But Weber 6’4” Chariot 6’3” Danault 6’1” Petry 6’3” Armia 6’4” Kulak 6’2” Kotkaniemi 6’2 Weise 6’2” Evans 6’1” Folin 6’3” Poehling 6’2” Fleury 6’1” Olafsson 6’2” They have some small skilled forwards, but with the exception of Mete their D ranges from big to man mountain
  13. Craig Button did a top 50 NHL affiliated prospects ranking in January. Romanov came in at #5. Woo didn’t make the list. He also ranked each Canadian teams top 5 prospects. He had Podkolzin, Hoglander, Madden, Rafferty, Lind as Vancouvers top 5. Woo didn’t make that list either. . It’s too early to definitively say Romanov will be the better player, but that’s how things are trending.
  14. There’s a lot of hype around him. He looks like a a legit prospect. Hopefully he pans out
  15. Habs get one of their most promising prospects under contract.
  16. There’s no way they were going to keep a fringe player who was caught bad mouthing current and former teammates. (On top of all the other stuff). Leipsic made his bed.
  17. The guy deserves every bit of negativity coming his way. you wanting to lock up the person responsible for leaking this is ridiculous. Leipsic has an opportunity to use this as a learning experience and become a better person. I’m guessing he doesn’t have the strength of character to do that though. He’ll do what you’re doing. Blame the person that shone the light on his character rather than looking at the real person responsible. The guy in the mirror
  18. The stupid crap you say constantly amazes me. Let the hateful racist misogynistic coke head off the hook because he spewed his crap to his equally hateful friends. But permanently lock up the person who exposed the d-bag for what he is.
  19. What the actual #### are you talking about? How does calling out a guy who made obvious racist/sexist/misogynistic comments anti-Semitic? He’s a coke head doucebag with no respect for others. His religious background is totally immaterial. And for you to accuse people who are disgusted by his words and actions of antisemitism is beyond ridiculous.
  20. Montreal won’t be buying out either Price or Weber. If there is a compliance buyout it’ll be used on Alzner Price’s contract doesn’t have a recapture penalty and if Weber retires early (after the next 2-3 seasons) it’s Nashville that takes the hit. Montreal will have a small recapture at worst,(if he retires this year) and no recapture at all in 3 years.
