  1. It’s a business. There is always a price attached.
  2. The bottom line is I don’t think LA will be willing to trade a 1st and pay a broken down 3C over $6.3m a season for 2 years just to get out of the NMC on Kovalchuk. You think otherwise. Good for you. Keep the dream alive.
  3. Perhaps. But it’s not going to cost them a 1st especially if that is the only benefit they’re getting. At his best Sutter is a good 3rd line player. At his best Kovalchuk is still a top line guy. Perhaps they’re counting on him rebounding after readjusting to the North American style. Or maybe they think the player they can take with this years 1st will be more important than whatever player they may lose in the expansion draft (even with protecting Kovalchuk).
  4. But they’re arguably getting a worse player for slightly more money and the same term. Expecting a 1st in return is ludicrous
  5. That doesn’t explain why LA would consider the trade. Kovalchuk May have struggled, but he still put up 34 points in 64 games. (Compared to Sutter's 6 points in 26 games). Both players have 2 years left on their contracts. But if they’re retaining $2m on Kovalchuk they actually end up paying a higher cap hit than what they currently have. I doubt there’s enough incentive for them to make the trade 1 for 1, let alone adding the 22nd overall pick as a sweetener
  6. Not even remotely. Vancouver fans are justified in not liking his comments, but there’s nothing in what he said that will allow Vancouver to not pay him.
  7. Yup. And the tax difference between Tampa and Vancouver would cost Callahan close to $400k if he accepted the trade. Going from a powerhouse team to one that is mid rebuild. I doubt he’d waive.
  8. Retaining $2m on Kovalchuk plus Sutter’s cap means they actually increase their cap by $130k and don’t save any term. Why do they trade 22nd oa to switch from Kovalchuk to Sutter?
  9. Serious question. Can you quote me one instance of a pending UFA being involved in a sign and trade just days before free agency kicks in? Because I can’t. There’s been a couple involving RFA’s. But not this close to free agency (as far as I can recall). It just doesn’t seem very realistic. Why would a team give up a significant asset for a player days from free agency when they can just wait?
  10. Mathematically, the team that finishes dead last has a 50.6% chance of picking 4th overall.
  11. Sure. But he can’t sign the NHL contract (and hence be paid the bonus) until his KHL contract is terminated. Also. consider Canadian taxes. To have $1m to buy out a contract they’d have to pay him closer to $1.5m.
  12. Tryamkin has to buy out his own contract. The Canucks can not do it.
  13. I don’t see Marleau waiving his NTC for Vancouver.
  14. Overvaluing Vancouvers players by a wide margin and undervaluing Philly’s players. Not close to fair value for what you’re asking from Philadelphia
  15. I’m not the one who called it a hockey trade. By the same token i don’t believe Edmonton Tom will pay through the nose to make the trade happen. It’ll likely land somewhere in the middle. A swap of bad contracts (or bad team/player matches) with a sweetener added by Edmonton. I don’t think that sweetener will be nearly as significant as some people imagine.
  16. Here’s s the thing though. If the reports are to believed it’s Vancouver that is showing interest in Lucic. It’s not Edmonton coming to Benning with hat in hand. That changes the dynamic of the potential deal. It suggests that Vancouver actually sees value in Lucic.
  17. Even if by some miracle that happened. They still wouldn’t trade two core players and leaders of the team for a selection of spare parts.
  18. Haha haha. You’re joking right? Montreal does this why?
  19. You’re correct. My point is, when the player has the choice (that Subban didn’t). They can chose to only waive if their no trade protection goes with them to the new team.
  20. Subban’s NTC hadn’t kicked in yet, so he had no say in the matter. In Lucic’s case he could refuse to waive his NMC unless he gets a rider ensuring it travels with him. I’m not saying he absolutely would do that. But he has that option.
  21. Calgary gave up a 1st and two 2nds to get Hamonic. I doubt your offer moves the needle for them.
