  1. They have the buy PLUS the cap recapture. Anyone who thinks the league will just forgive the cap recapture penalty is fooling themselves. The Canucks benefited from the Luongo contract to the tune of $8m+ in manufactured cap space at a time when they were a top team in the league. They even had an opportunity to rid themselves of the future cap issue by using a compliance buy out. They chose not to do it. If Luongo retires. And he’s not on LTIR, Vancouver will face the penalty.
  2. They’re enforcing the cap recapture in LA on the Richards contract. If Luongo retires prior to the end of his contract, and he’s not on LTIR, there WILL be a recapture penalty.
  3. Would have to be a legit injury. You can bet your bottom dollar that the league would require 3rd party verification of a career ending injury (and yes, they sought out a non affiliated Dr to confirm Hossa’s skin condition was severe enough to qualify for LTIR)
  4. The NMC doesn’t automatically follow the player. But most players will request a rider re-establishing the NMC with the new team before they agree to waive to go to the new team.
  5. A cup of frozen yogurt. Maybe. And toppings he would be extra
  6. No. The NHL has guaranteed contracts. Richards commits a crime which gave LA an excuse to terminate for material breach. And even then there were a series of legal issues before LA ultimately was penalized for terminating the contract.
  7. What Goldobin and his agent doesn’t mean a thing. It’s what a GM thinks. And Goldobin hasn’t shown he’s even a legit NHL’er. Let alone a top 6 player that can put up points
  8. Ah CDC. Where every prospect. Given enough time. Is projected to be the next Neely
  9. Gaudette is looking a lot like Jacob De La Rose. Definitely an NHLer. But a bottom 6 guy who brings very little in the way of offence
  10. Pittsburgh already traded this years 2nd,3rd and 4th round picks. Them trading this years 1st will take something they actually need. Hornquist is worth at least as much as Tanev. Almeida was the 3rd leading scorer in the WHL this year. They likely end up getting more scoring out of him down the road than they do Gaudette (who is looking rather offensively challenged in the NHL). A chance that they get a higher 1st a year from now doesn’t seem like enough incentive to Pittsburgh
  11. Yet another proposal heavily slanted in Vancouvers favour. Imagine that.
  12. He’s 60-70 point guy making $5.1m. His cap hit isnt a problem
  13. You can’t be serious. St Louis gives up by far the best player and s high pick. In return they get an overpaid injury prone 3C, a player that could be headed for the KHL (or waivers), and practically worthless rights to a player under contract in the KHL. What would possess them to do it?
  14. I’m confused by people who call Goldobin a scorer. His career high is 8 goals and 27 points. Doesn’t scream scorer.
  15. There is literally no reason for Florida to trade out of the first round for a bunch of low level assets. Like none
  16. Not the same thing at all. In NHL terms a $50 has value. Whereas the two twenties and the ten might be the equivalent of in store coupons that are only good at a place that went out of business. Quality is much more valuable than quantity when only the best make the show.
  17. Or. You know, they could make the pick instead of taking lower picks and Canuck cast offs. Not saying Gaudette is. Worthless. But they can likely get a prospect with a higher ceiling at 13
  18. None of those deals is going to score another 1st.
  19. Good deal. He was a good fit. Be interesting to see what happens with Poehling coming into the lineup
  20. And your point is pointless to me. Also. The top western teams are both out too.
  21. My point is the west sucked. They would have missed by 18 in the east. The reasons are immaterial. Every team deals with injuries.
  22. My point wasn’t about what happens after you get in. I was responding to a post that pointed out the Canucks only missed by 9 points. I was just saying the only reason they remained in the wildcard race so long was that West was awful and apart from the top few teams no one seemed to want to lock down a spot.
