[Discussion] JT Miller to Rangers
qwijibo replied to Doogie's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
You’re asking for the equivalent of 4 very recent high 1sts. Including either a 1st OA or 2nd OA. That’s not remotely realistic. They’re not going to gut the organization for a year and a half rental -

They interviewed Darche. They chose Hughes over him. -
Halak and Chiasson for Edmonton's 2022-1st (Proposal)
qwijibo replied to J.I.A.H.N's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Boston currently has 3 goalies now that they’ve signed Rask. Chicago could look to move Fleury. Montreal could move Allen, the ducks could move one of their guys. (Stolarz or Gibson). That’s just off the top of my head. The point is Vancouver doesn’t have the leverage in a potential Halak trade to bleed them dry. -
Halak and Chiasson for Edmonton's 2022-1st (Proposal)

Are you under the impression that Halak is their only possible target? They aren’t going overpay for a 1/2 season of a 36 year old back up with a dead cap space bonus next year. They can look elsewhere -
[Proposal] 2 trades, Van - Edm and Van - NYR

If they’re moving someone of RNH quality who is signed with term to a reasonable deal they’re getting a better return than a half season from a 36 year old goalie who comes with dead cap space to boot. They can go after a guy like Swayman or Ulmark out of Boston. Even if they are desperate enough to do a deal like you suggest they could go after Fleury -

Depth scoring is an issue in Edmonton. RNH is 3rd in Team scoring for them. I don’t see them touching this with a 10’ pole. Halak doesn’t have remotely that much value, especially considering he comes with $1.25m in dead cap space next season. -
Ryan Poehling, what would it take?
qwijibo replied to CaptainLinden16's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
He’s still young and has only been given a small role. Regardless Montreal won’t move him for a player on an expiring contract. He’s contributing and he’s cheap. -
Not going to comment on the value. But Toffoli is due to return to the lineup this week so the concern of him brewing on IR shouldn’t factor in

Who knows? It’s not like the draft is a one man operation though. You’ve got Gorton there along with an entire scouting department. They fired their old head of scouting in Timmons so it’s a new ballgame. We won’t know for a few years how effective the organization will be at drafting -

Yes. He’s from Montreal. That said there’s still some Francophones complaining that his name sounds to Anglo. Lol -

Weber will likely finish his career on LTIR. Even if he retires it’s Nashville that gets hit with the recapture. Not Montreal. The Price situation is completely different. He’s had another setback it’s rehabbing his knee. He likely won’t be back this season. What that means long term is up for conjecture. If he can’t return to play he’ll be on LTIR as well. There’s no “weaseling” going on. This isn’t a team trying to avoid recapture. It’s simply making use of LTIR exactly as it’s intended. The Canucks are doing the same thing with Ferland -

It’s going to be more of a tandem with Gorton having the final say in any big moves. Hughes gets to hit the ground running with a very high 1st round pick plus 10 more picks (plus whatever they get for guys like Chiarot) in a draft that’s being held in Montreal -
He’ll be working closely with Gorton and will hit the ground running with a very high 1st round pick this year along with at least 10 more picks in this years draft

Ryan Poehling, what would it take?
qwijibo replied to CaptainLinden16's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
The thing is he’s already playing a bottom 6 C role in Montreal for only $750k. With where they are in the rebuild there’s no reason for them to move a 23 year old NHL’er making close to league minimum. They already have 11 picks in this years draft and will likely pick up a few more as they move out their own pending UFA’s. Poehling is a piece that fits for them right now and he’s actually played quite well in the role he’s been given this season -

Motte is a pending UFA. Poehling makes $750k next season and before hiring RFA. There’s zero reason for Montreal to move Poehling for an expiring contract. -

I suspect they’d rather hang onto him than take a 4th -

Carolina’s 1st in all likelihood is going to Arizona in the Dvorak deal and there’s not a chance in hell that Montreal moves their own 1st for Boeser -

Looking less and less likely that Price returns this season -
[Discussion] JT Miller, is he tradeable?
qwijibo replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Whether anyone else would give up a 1st and a 3rd for Kotkaniemi is immaterial. THEY gave up a 1st and a 3rd for him. The kid is still only 21. That’s way too many futures to give up for a year and a half rental that they don’t actually need. -
[Discussion] JT Miller, is he tradeable?
qwijibo replied to HKSR's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Carolina is 9th in the League on goals scored but have a staggering +39 goal differential. They gave up next years 1st and 3rd to get Kotkaniemi. Jarvis are morrow recent 1st and 2nd round picks. Do you think Carolina feels like they have a hole on offence so dire that they should give up the equivalent of 2 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd to fill it? -
Whatever the reason the man clearly lacks any real character or integrity. He really only has himself to blame for the situation he finds himself in
-
Yes. I know. Which is why I mentioned all the investigations. It gave them the ammo to terminate.
-
I think they were waiting on the process. Let all the investigations be completed so there would be no cry of unfair treatment from the union

Montreal is in a world of hurt. They have 28 players either injured or in COVID protocol
