  1. Not really. It’s all part of the CBA. Carolina chose to massively overpay Kotkaniemi out of spite. I’m sure they like the player too. But paying him $6.1m was payback for Aho. Kotkaniemi is a loss for Montreal. I’ve always liked him avd I won’t start trashing him now. But if Dvorak works out in Montreal then they’ve somewhat mitigated the loss
  2. Carolina has more C depth though. There’s a good chance Kotkaniemi doesn’t see top 6 minutes or PP time
  3. Arizona gets the higher of the two but there’s top 10 protection on the pick. If the pick slides they also get Montreal’s 2nd
  4. Montreal added Caufield, Hoffman , Dvorak and a healthy Drouin to the lineup. I don’t think scoring will be nearly the issue you think it will be.
  5. I mean. People still whine about it. I doubt Kotkaniemi will have that much impact (and I like Kotkaniemi and think he’ll be an excellent player)
  6. Because of the division setup you can be a good team and miss the playoffs while a crappier team in a weaker division makes it in. That’s fact
  7. They we’re in the top of the league prior to their covid shutdown and having to play 24 games in 42 nights. They were injured and running on fumes. I do think they’ll need a great season to make the playoffs, but that’s a function of how good the Atlantic division is, not that the team is weak
  8. A) I dont see them going the offer sheet route. To much left to chance B ) they haven’t even been on the ice since they went to the cup final. Bergevin’s job is secure atm
  9. I disagree. They’re weak down the middle but have strong forwards otherwise. Their D is still very good. Their goaltending duo is top notch. If they can strengthen the C position they’re in good shape
  10. Montreal has a lot of young talent on the team and more coming. They also have a lot of picks in the upcoming draft. They don’t need to rebuild. They do need to deal with the holes this offseason has created though
  11. Weber struggled a lot in the regular season. Savard should be a decent replacement and Romanov is a year older.
  12. They also have 2 1sts, a 2nd and 3 3rds in next years draft. Plus a strong prospect pool and cap space. I think it’s likely they make a move. Bergevin has done very well on most of his trades. Lots of time before the season starts and I’m sure they’ve had feelers out all week
  13. Wouldn’t work for their cap. They have Suzuki to sign next season and Caufield the year after.
  14. Not surprised. You can’t pay Kotkaniemi $6.1m. Even out of spite
