  1. To be fair though, the finns had one good scoring line, a strong defence and a very hot goaltender, and that's about it. You will find 2 finns in the top30 scoring of the 2014 wjc. Their 3rd best player had 5 points, the rest had less than 5. For an example, Sweden had 9 players with 6+ points, 1 with 5 points. Again, things aren't just about putting up points, but the finns didn't necessarily have the most talented team. I would still rank Nylander higher than Kapanen, and i believe we shouldn't take Kapanen if players like Ritchie, Perlini etc are still available.
  2. It's impossible for us to pick 5th overall unless we win the lottery. Even if we would lose our remaining games, and Calgary won all their games, we would still be ahead of them since Calgary have more OT/SO wins. Therefore, best possible pick, unless we win the lottery, is 6th overall. EDIT: Noticed even Islanders could catch us in points, but same thing there. They have too many OT wins/SO wins.
  3. I think Drouin would have made about a dozen NHL teams... certainly Calgary. Just because a player made the NHL right away doesn't necessarily mean that they will be better than anyone who didn't make the NHL right after being drafted. Drouin is doing fine.
  4. I rather meant Drouin would probably be even more dominant next year. You can't just look at last years stats and compare them to this years stats... they lost Nathan freaking MacKinnon to the Avs...
  5. Mantha is also 1 year older. Don't really know what you're saying here, Drouin will play in the NHL next season, and i'm sure he's a future star player. Probably a safer bet than Mantha.
  6. I actually find it quite funny people are comparing Schroeder and Ehlers, due to size. Schroeder is 5'8. Ehlers is 5'11, and i've even seen him listed at 6'0 at some places. That's a pretty big size difference. And the guy is only 18 years old and might even grow a little more. He should bulk up some though. Assuming the top5 will go as expected, and we ending up in the 6-10 range, i'd be fine with Ehlers/Richie/Perlini/Virtanen/Nylander/Fleury. Maybe even McCann, but i don't think he's the best player available at our spot. And we already have some similar players in the system like Horvat and Gaunce. I do think we need some more quality wingers in our prospect pool, and a guy that could be our future number 1 center (Nylander?). We could also use a big promising d-man like Fleury who has first-pairing potential.
  7. Not like there are way more canadians playing hockey than danes... Russia is another case, but we all know about the KHL. Seriously, you don't pass on a player just because he's not canadian, there's gotta be other reasons. Ehlers is one of the best players in the draft, i'll leave it at that.
  8. Apparently, Nylander will play for MoDo's u20 team this weekend, since Sodertalje's season is already over. MoDo will play the semi-final in about 4 hours, and seems like it will be broadcasted on television. Will probably be some highlights from the game afterwards.
  9. Don't know what list you're referring to, but i can tell you there's absolutely no way Ehlers will be picked far from the 10th spot at least. He will probably never slip past 10, the guy has been a great in the playoffs. I would like the idea of trading up, but not at the cost of another top10 pick, that's way too much. If we were talking about a calibre player like Tavares,Stamkos,Crosby, players that you can actually build your whole team around, then sure.
  10. The thing about Nylander though is that he's playing against men, and not juniors. Plenty of great swedish players the last few years came from the swedish 2nd league. (D-man)Oliver Ekman Larsson had 17 points in 39 games his draft year. (Went 6th overall). (D-man)Hampus Lindholm had 4 points in 20 games his draft year. (Went 6th overall). (Forward)Filip Forsberg had 17 points in 43 games his draft year. (Went 11th overall, but was ranked higher, now he's doing really good in his first full season in NA.) (Forward)André Burakowsky had 11 points in 43 games his draft year. (Went 23rd overall). Nylander had 27 points in 35 games this season. After the switch from Rogle to Sodertalje at the end of the season, he averaged more than 1 point per game (11 goals and 8 assists in 17 games) on a bottom team. Things are certainly not all about point production, Forsberg was a better two-way player at the time than Nylander is right now, obviously. Still, Nylander have some great offensive talent, and it will be interesting to see when he will get drafted.
  11. Also regarding Nedeljkovic, i find it pretty remarkable he's playing on a team that made the playoffs as an 8th seeded team, yet he has been so good. He have played every game this season except for 7. The only guy who had a better save % in the regular season in the OHL is Stolarz, who's playing on a top team (the Knights). Nedeljkovic had .925 compared to Stolarz .926 . Nedeljkovic did play 26 more games though, nevertheless, that's some real solid numbers for someones draft year. He's not that big though.
  12. Seems like there will be some pretty interesting players around for us in the second round. Lemiuex is interesting, but there's also guys like Jack Glover, Josh Jacobs, Jack Dougherty, Justin Kirkland, John Quenneville (Joel Quenneville's 2nd cousin apparently lol). I would be happy if we ended up with any of the top-rated goalies in the 2nd round aswell. Nedeljkovic, Demko and Husso all look like goaltenders with good potential.
  13. I think either Reinhart or Ekblad will go 1st overall, depending on team. The top3 will probably be Reinhart, Ekblad and Dal Colle, in no particular order. Those guys have been up there all season, and they have all been great in the playoffs so far. Dal Colle 10 points in 4 games so far, and Reinhart 17 points in 6 games.
  14. I would hardly call Perlini a lock for 6th overall. Ehlers stock has definitely increased in the playoffs. Same with Ritchie. Meanwhile, Perlini is struggling with 1 point in 7 playoff games. Scouts thought that Nylander could go top3 prior to this season, and some even thought he had the skill to compete for 1st overall. He did start off the season slow, but then he really picked his game up and dominated against men in the Swedish 2nd league. I think Nylander could even crack the top 5, given he really picked up his game and met the high expectations, i wouldn't count on it though. The projected top5 picks are more safe picks than Nylander, and they all have high potential. Nylander have 1st line potential though, but there's also a few question marks regarding him. He will probably get drafted just outside the top5, but he could pan out really well. I would be happy if we got Perlini though.
  15. I'm actually really excited about Anaheim being a potential trading partner for us regarding Kesler. It just makes so much sense, they're a perfect fit. Sure, they have some players down the middle behind Getzlaf (Bonino,Perrault), but they're very inexperienced players who just happen to have career years at the age of 25/26. How will they do next season? I'm always surprised looking at Anaheims roster, and then realize they're a top team in the NHL. Especially since they traded away Bobby Ryan in the off-season. Players like Bonino and Perrault have never even been close to these numbers before at the NHL level. It's quite mind-boggling. Anyway, Anaheim have such a deep prospect pool, and they also have that Ottawa pick. You kinda feel like there are so many potential proposals that would make sense for both teams. They're also a young team that will improve, so they will be able to move some prospects for success in the present. Etem is obviously very interesting, but i also think Shea Theodore would make sense for both teams. Anaheim have a young, improving offensive d-man like Fowler already, and a young solid d-core overall. Because of Fowler, Theodore could be expendable for Anaheim, and Theodore won't be NHL ready in a few years anyway. We are looking for that puckmoving defenceman, which is exactly what Theodore is. Might not be that Letang type of player (Pouliot), but more like a Mike Green type of player. Capable of steering the Power play. Good skater, good reach, lead scoring for defencemen in the WHL (Morissey and Pouliot did play a few less games though because of the WJC). Depending on where Ottawa will end up in the standings, i really think there are some flexible options here. Let's say Ottawa surpass us in the standings and ends up with the 10th overall pick. They could trade Etem/Rakell or maybe one of their younger roster players, + that 10 overall so we could draft (Hayden Fleuy perhaps?), and maybe they could throw in a 2nd/3rd round pick, for Kesler. Or they could trade Theodore, + that 10th overall pick and a 2nd/3rd round pick perhaps, for Kesler. I think that's pretty fair value for Kesler, if you are pushing for the Cup, like Anaheim should do IMO. Getzlaf and Perry are in their prime. I guess it all depends on how good Anaheim will do in the playoffs. At the same time, they did trade Bobby Ryan for that Ottawa pick, Silfverberg and Noesen (who basically hasn't been able to do anything this season due to injury). Would they be willing to give up those assets listed above, for a slightly older player than Bobby Ryan, sitting on a similar contract? I wonder how highly Anaheim value that Ottawa pick since they haven't got THAT much value back from the Ryan trade, yet. As i said, Noesen has been injured all season, but Silfverberg hasn't exactly been great either. It's all just speculation i guess.
  16. So Garrison is our best defenceman in points. He plays 20+ minutes every game. He sits at a respectable 4,6M per year. David Booth is our 9th best forward point production-wise, 17 points in 60 games. He's injury prone, get way more money than he deserves, and simply isn't a fit at all since he isn't good enough for the 2nd line, and we have plenty of 3rd liners already. Conclusion? CDC want Garrison bought out. That's logic on a whole new level. I honestly just wanna scream.
  17. Yeah appreciate his tweets and updates, but i've seen similar things coming out from him. He argued about that Dumba kneeing-call in the WJC as well
  18. Hated the Mallet pick from the start, and obviously still do. I also wanted Severson over Mallet. The Mallet pick was way off the board at the time, and now it just looks stupid.
  19. Draft Thatcher Demko or Ville Husso in the 2nd round.
  20. They would never trade Lindholm. Etem/Théodore/Rakell , their Ottawa pick + a 2nd perhaps would be pretty sweet though.
  21. Agree to 100%. Don't know why so many here have Matthias as their determined 3rd line center. He shouldn't be the one standing in Horvat's way, if he's actually ready to go pro.
  22. How can it not make sense? Chicago have 5 good offensive forwards, but they don't have a 2nd line center. Chicago would be way better if they had Kesler. I doubt Teravainen will come in and be a pure 2nd line center right away. He's still too one dimensional in his game.
  23. Agree, i would be happy with any of those guys at spot 6-10. Don't really understand the comparison between Ritchie and Beach, except both being powerforwards.
  24. Would be interesting to hear those "great offers"
