We may have no choice but to Trade Down because we are already headed into serious problems for next year, being over the Cap and one way out of that pickle is to throw away out last remaining early round pick in some sort of "Hail-Mary" type "sink-or-Swim" deal to get us out of Cap Hell that JR and our inexperienced Rookie GM PA have gotten us into - unless they "Pull a Rabbit out of the Hat". No matter, it will be pretty interesting to see how they get out of this one! I can't wait........!
-
You might be "on to something" thinking Aqua-Lini might throw away $20,000,000.00 Million because he'll just raise the prices on the leaky Condo's he slaps together for the working poor people of this city but the other side of this issue is the Cap Hit for the- close to a decade period, especially after year 2 when it's +> $4M/Yr. That's alot of pride to swallow for JR!
-
The letter should have stopped at end of the first paragraph where he said "We had expectations going into this season that were not met" ! Really??? One more year and if no further progress (playoffs) - FIRE HIM and sell the team Frankie...... to responsible adults ! Same B.S. letter every year for the last 52 years!

Perhaps................ ******************************************************************************* ************************** Post of The Year ! ****************************** ******************************************************************************* P.S.: Thanks for clearly saying it "the way it is". There's a "special place" awaiting honest Fans like you!See you there!

Yes, even though we really, really need a "stinker" tonight by the Canucks to keep a bit of hope in the Bedard sweepstakes, I'd love nothing more than to put a needle in the Flames balloon, as they did to us a few years ago in the playoffs and force Darryl Sutter back into Pig Farming out in Red Deer - permanently - where he belongs! That would be Poetic justice!
-
Of course - that is one way to look at it but it still doesn't get away from "THE FACT" that buying out OEL this year will take a "kings ran$om" and also have a very, very long lasting affect on cap hit - for almost a Decade ! Think about that! With all that being said, you never know with Aqua-Lini driving the bus. Just look at the "Spaghetti Deal" he made with Luongo!
-
BTW, how the heck did Evgeny Kuznetsov end up in the picture as one of the two poll questions above. Aren't we burdened enough with the OEL and eventually the Miller "Over the hill" Albatross contracts. We certainly don't need any more overpaid senior citizen contracts to anchor us down than we already are. Those two contract alone will waste 19% of our Cap (Almost $16 Million) as of next year going forward. That's enough human pain & suffering for any normal Fan to take. Don't even think about adding more dead-weight to this team. JB & JR have already burdened us enough as it is for years to come. Please.......................

Take a look at the overall Buyout cost for OEL. I highly doubt they'll buy him out - at least for another year-maybe two, due to the extreme overall cost of doing so earlier. But you never know. Maybe Aqau-lIni has an extra $20,000,000.00 Million to burn ! OLIVER EKMAN-LARSSON BUYOUT RESULTS A Oliver Ekman-Larsson buyout spans 8 years, has a cost of $19,333,333 and savings of $9,666,667. Ekman-Larsson is 31 years of age at the time of the buyout; therefore, the buyout ratio is 2/3. With $29,000,000 in salary remaining, the cost is $19,333,333, and the savings are $9,666,667. Buyouts span twice the length of the remaining years and because there are 4 years remaining in the contract, the buyout length is 8 years. The buyout cap hit is displayed in the Cap Hit Calculations table below. Retained Salary: This contract was involved in a retained salary transaction. The resulting costs and cap hit are therefore split between each team based on the percentage of salary retained by the respective teams. 4-3 Canucks Kuz GWG EP40 Final G -
Since Aqua-Lini has meddled in JR's plans to perform "Major Surgery" (i.e./: A Rebuild), I suspect that he'll at least allow a couple of buyouts and JR will try to purge a bunch of the many borderline AHL/NHL players we have on the team in an effort to try and speed up the necessary changes, but I certainly can't see OEL going anywhere in the near future due to the massive hit if he's bought-out. By mid July we should have a pretty good feel where this team is headed.
-
This is very likely to be the last game in this city for many Canucks. So if you're a Myers, Boeser, Garland and possibly even Miller fan, this may be the last chance to see them in a Canucks uniform tonight on our home ice. Not to mention many other 2nd, 3rd, and 4th string D-Men and forwards - which will hopefully be gone shortly as well. As it's pretty clear that there will be alot of house cleaning required by JR over the next half year, Looking forward to the "Purge" this summer !

Interesting combo's and yes we're stuck with OEL for at least another year or two (unfortunately) but I strongly suspect Myers will not be back as they will try to trade him but if they can't, it would be best to bury him in the minors - from a cap perspective but I doubt they would have the nerve to do that. No matter, Myers has 4 games left with this team - period! Not sure they'll put Hirose in a regular slot as he is still unproven as far as a regular position goes, so I'm fully expecting they will acquire a more seasoned D'man (or 2) in the off season and we'll see a couple of our weaker D's being let go or sent down to the minors. As for Schenn, I'm doubtful they'll get him back and we'd be better off investing time and effort in an up & comer than Schenn as he is getting to the end of his career day by day and the Canucks need to look forward > not backwards. Interesting times ahead... -

Agree, We needed/need a bit of a "hard-a$$" coach to get this group out of their funk. Now that it's clear that there will be No Major Rebuild (Surgery - as JR callls it), Tock-It will have to "ride" these guys back into a competitive state of mind and try to rid this team of it's long-standing country club aura that it is so well known for. Getting Rid of Bo, although certainly a loss, was not surprising and I predicted that would likely happen in an effort to change the leadership in the locker room. Now, the job is to get the rest of team playing to their abilities, as we've all seen in a handful of games against some of the better teams showing that many have another gear to play in. Those that can't adapt will need to be traded and I'm pretty sure Tock-It will identify those players to JR & PA in due time. Very sad we didn't take a "purge & rebuild" approach, especially in this very deep draft year but I'm still hoping things can improve. -

You bring up a very good point that many forget about and that is the need for size on this team - especially defense. While we have a bunch of 6' players, many are sub 200 Lbs. and get bowled over easily. You can see the difference it makes when we play bigger teams and our guys can't win board battles or clear the front of the net. Hopefully JR acquires one or two sizeable new D's for next year because we need it. Luke Schenn type of player would be nice with size AND grit. -

Take aways: Hirose and McWard looked ok for rookies. Aman had a pretty rough game, especially just before and after his penalty. He couldn't seem to get anything right. Living on borrowed time IMO. Garland looked great and I thought he was one of the better players tonight along with EP40. Boeser,................ well Boeser was just Boeser tonight. Likely one more last game left in this city for him. Myers somehow didn't manage to screw the game up too much tonight. So that is worthy of mention. Last but not least, Demko save our rickety defensemen tonight once again and was a hero. On to our last home game of the season against Cowtown..........should be good! -
Wow! Hard to believe this non-contending. low effort team has 10 (possibly 11) injured players - 7 of them defensemen! Even more amazing is that the Canucks have played 17 different defensemen this year! Goes to prove how soft and how bad our defense is. Sure Hope JR can purge the entire defensive core except QH and that HornWreck guy from Detroit (that we over paid for and are stuck with now) turns into bobby Orr, so we don't have yet another bad season that this franchise seems to have year after year. Fingers crossed!

I'm still of the opinion that JR should have stuck to his guns and threatened resignation if he couldn't perform the Major Surgery that even he himself finally admitted (after seeing enough) - needed to be performed on this club. Now that word is coming out that Pittrsburg offered us AT LEAST two (2) first Round Draft Picks and likely much more for JTM and if we hadn't thrown away our other 1st & 2nd round picks on that (Unserviceable) damaged Detroit kid (HornWreck) we could have had 7 draft picks in the first two rounds in this years and next years draft - and that doesn't include any other picks they could have acquired with other trades going forward or the other dozen or so picks in the other rounds in this years generational draft pick year and next. This could have resulted in a considerably huge jumpstart in a rebuild - without even getting rid of EP40, QH, Kuz or Demko, who in my opinion are the 4 best players on this team and the only 4 that should be retained. Everyone else are tradable and expendable can easily be replaced in a few years of rebuilding when we have a cupboard full of high picks/prospect and low salaries. .....and, if any of those 4 didn't want to stick around during a rebuild they would have fetched even further extremely high returns in terms of picks and prospects. This would have been the ideal time to do it, as all the stars had aligned well for us for a rebuild. Instead, Aqua-Lini obviously & clearly has stepped in (again) and told JR to retool instead of performing "major Surgery" (rebuilding), in fear that he'd lose warm butts in the seats for awhile, as he is known to be very impatient and possesses acute short term thinking issues - like all leaky condo developers have and here are we are today, out of the playoffs again, stuck with essentially the same rotten core of incompatible players that have failed every year so far - minus Bo Horvat. Furthermore, we can see after the usual new coaches bump we saw up until 2 weeks ago - after the Tock-It arrival, that this team has slumped right back to their usual low effort, dis-jointed, soft, mediocre style of play and Tock-It can't do anything about it because he's just figuring out what we all know after watching this rag-tag crew for years, that this core is mentally and physically soft (as he himself has said a few occasions) and has "Rot" entrenched in it's culture which why this team has been criticized and is well known all over the league as being a "country club" style franchise for the last many years. So don't hold your breath, unless JR can overcome the "Aqua-Lini effect" and sticks to his guns and guts this team much, much further because this current group will NEVER (repeat for the naïve.... NEVER) Win a Stanley Cup for us.

I hope he turns it around - but at this point - looks like another Canucks 1st Rd. pick gone south but I can't say I'm surprised given that it was a completely inexperienced, rookie GM (Alvin) who made this decision . The same guy responsible for the StillMan Fiasco! Maybe it's a good thing that JR threw away one of this years 1st Rd. picks and our high 2nd Rd. pick on that injured - unserviceable, Detroit kid (HornWreck) instead of leaving them in place for Alvin to waste on another couple of fragile swedish finesse players.
-
My worry, is that if we ever won the first overall pick, that PA would be tempted to pick another puny, fragile 145 lb. Swedish winger from the "motherland", that ends up with 3 goals in the Swe-1 league, two concussions, a broken leg and a failed season like Lekkerimaki. Hopefully someone else makes the decision this time instead of our biased rookie GM.

I was in the same position last year after over 20 years and finally cancelled after continuous - insulting price increases year after year and especially as the team got worse and worse by each year and failed to even get out of the bottom of the basement for almost a decade (including this year). That is the best way you, I and other REAL Canucks fans can force change on this inept franchise and about all that Aqua-Lini will understand, as he refuses to and doesn't know how to fix this franchise and needs to either allow a badly needed rebuild or sell the team to responsible adults. Don't be another blind robot and renew in fear of losing out of anything because there is an overabundance of discounted tickets available for every game and the Canucks are discounting half price seats to students and giving away free tickets by the hundreds to charities in an attempt to keep the appearance that the stadium is full and even that is failing because you can usually see several hundred to a couple of thousand empty seats at most games. They can't even sell out a Toronto or Boston game anymore ! Think about that! ...and don't worry about losing seniority because ALL the good seats are locked-up by corporations who couldn't care less about the team forever, as they are just used as promotional giveaways and why you see such a silent, unconnected, dead uninvolved crowd in the lower bowl (especially the club section) and upper bowl center seats as real Canuck fans can't afford and can't get access to those seats. All that seniority will get you as a regular patron is an opportunity to move around the end zones - forever! I know because I waited over 20 years to get ahead and never had access to not one single good seat and found that you could buy them anyways for cheaper on the secondary market and not get stuck with tickets and have to waste enormous amounts of time trying and worrying about selling excess games. So be smart, send a message to Aqua-Lini and save a lot of your money and the hassle and DON'T RENEW and be Aqua-lini's 81tch!
