Meh, it's still a pretty high price to pay for an unproven player even as good as he may be. Tanev is just too good to give up to upgrade those 3 spots. The guys 6-10 are all still good players that will grow with Tanev and the gang. We aren't going to just get rid of him because of our other D either. Somebody else will be on their way out long before Tanev. I say corrado because i do like the upgrade to 3rd and it doesn't deliver a huge blow to our team. He's a good player but we have time to replace him as we already have a young righty starting to challenge for a higher roster spot. Also it's likely that it's Edmonton looking to initiate the deal(not us) as Ekblad is gone and they're high on fleury. There's no need for us to start throwing our best young roster players at them. We could probably trade Tanev and the 6th overall for a really good 21 year old established player right now. Corrado and the pick should be good enough and if it isn't hang up and wait for them to call back.

I think Tanev is too much for a 3 spot jump. He's just too solid and just rounded into a young solid second pairing guy with to a of room to still grow IMO. Id hate to give the oil a player that reliable lol I'd do corrado and our pick though. He looks solid too but we're not giving up one of our best young players on the team.

Superstar? Every player in the top ten has it but it's likely only 1 will reach it and it's probably a top 5 guy.

I don't really care.. I have my preferences from dreaming about what certain players could be if they reach potential but I'm not going to pretend I know more than professional scouts and start calling players bad picks. These guys aren't ranked in the top ten because a bunch of guys watched YouTube videos, checked stat sheets and discussed attitude rumors on message boards. They watched them play night in and night out and see big potential in each one. Whoever we pick 6th overall will be picked for good reasons that not one guy on cdc can effectively counter with their internet research. While I enjoy talking hockey with 90% of my cdc friends, nobody on here is going to convince me they know more than a man paid top dollar to watch young players not only this year but many years leading up to it. I will be thrilled with any of them and it's going to be exciting to watch him grow as a player in the blue and green.

You rock, Kreuzberg. Filtering through the stubborn opinions on this board can give a guy a headache but it's always a pleasure to read your detailed breakdowns on these kids. Just curious, where do you watch NDTP and all these hard to hard to see players? Internet streams?

Pretty much every guy in junior hockey is a dick to some degree. Guys that play high level rep hockey too. It's just the nature of hockey players. Most become a little more humble down the road. Growing up in Prince George I'd see the cougars around all the time and they all thought they were the coolest guys in town. There's an arrogance to hockey players in general and I watched them get beat up a handful of times because of it haha. It's just in their nature.

I was thinking the same thing. It would be nice to add a real solid defense prospect to the pool. Haven't really had one since bourdon. That being said, getting the tenth pick means Kesler trade. I would way rather send him to Pittsburgh if pouliot is in the deal. He is a real blue chip dman, I feel Fluery is not on quite his level.

My take on attitude when your looking at the ten best players in the draft is it really has to be taken with a grain of salt. We're talking about kids first of all, teenagers that play hockey, they all have a certain cockiness to them. Also when your looking at the top ten, the best of the best, they have been the best player on their team since they were 5 years old. These guys have been the star since day one and as a child that is something they lean on for status. I'm the top dog, I'm the best, it's only natural to feel and think that way. I know some kids are a little more humble, and that's great but don't count the others out because they've never experienced a situation where they're not looked upon as the best by their coaches, teammates and opponents. I really think it's just a part of growing up as not only a hockey player but a human being. When u have all the talent in the world and your way better than most kids your age, it's bound to get to your head a little. I just think attitude gets blown way outta proportion. They really are all kids at the end of the day.

Bob Mackenzie took 12 pro scouts opinions and compiled a list based on the results. Nick Ritchie was 6th on that list. All these concerns of yours don't seem to align with the findings from the professional scouts that watched him play live countless times. We are considering this at 6th overall because the scouts aren't comparing him to Latendresse, they see great potential.

Out of shape? Kassian was also out of shape and we whipped him into it pretty well. This org has a track record for setting guys on the path to success. Whether it's making a full time nhler out of Richardson or showing Kassian what takes to be a pro, the canucks seem to be able to do it so I am not concerned about that at all. Nick Ritchie has all the tools and we have the tools to develop him properly. Just because he's big and tough doesn't mean he's just another Kassian. Both players can play the skill game too. I want a heart filled Canadian roster in 5 years with the toughness to not get pushed around in the playoffs. Ritchie is available to us this year, I want to take him and go for higher end skill next year. Having both guys as I've stated before puts a contagious confidence in the locker room. Every guy on the roster plays like he's 2 inches taller and 15lbs heavier. That goes a long way in the playoffs. Any of the top ten guys would help us tremendously and I really could care less which one we end up with but my personal preference is Nick Ritchie. I love the style he plays with and would love to watch that on the canucks for years to come.
-
I've flopped around on my top choice a bunch too haha this thread will get you kinda leaning one way, then you start thinking about a certain players potential and you go, wait a minute maybe we should take this guy instead lol I think I'm pretty firm on Ritchie now. I like the total package he brings. They're all risks but I want to take the Ritchie risk.
-
Comparing Ehlers to Bure is stupid, might as well call Ritchie Lindros.
-
Pretty ridiculous eh haha. I don't know why it's so hard to just state why you think it would benefit the team more by drafting the player of your choice. Any one of them would be sweet, really. Hell, even Sonny Milano would be a nice addition to the pool.... I guess it's just human nature to try to describe what an imaginary disaster it would be to pick anyone but the guy you want.
-
I'm just not so sure I'm that sold on him, there's gotta be a better pick for our early second. If Fiala was actually a real can't miss small guy he'd be ranked a lot higher on ISS. I'm not discrediting his skill, it's there but blowing through an nhl defense is another story. I wouldn't waste our early second on him, there will be plenty of solid picks in that range, no need to take a guy that's 5'10. If he turns into an nhl star I'll gladly accept Plum's "I told you so". Until then the odds are so high against him, I wouldn't use the best second round pick we've had in years on him.
-
10-15? who's projecting that? Everything I see has him very late first round, early second.
-
I want Ritchie way more than any of the other guys that could be taken sixth but there's no way I would pass on Dal Colle if he fell to us. He's just a no brainer, star franchise winger written all over him.
-
You just gonna sit back and let new versions of angry whoppers come out every few months and not try them?
-
That is kind of a weird jersey eh.. how do you even say it? HV Seventy ones? Husqvarna seventy firsters haha
-
I think Ritchie could probably be encouraged not to fight as often as he's their offensive star. Kinda hard to win if he's jumping at every little opportunity to fight and going off for 5 mins all the time. I have no actual idea but if I was coaching a 39 goal scorer that is what I would preach. Whoop ass if you gotta but don't drop em in 25% of the games.
-
Depends what it took. I probably wouldn't though but I'm also pretty pumped on Ritchie too. If Schroeder could do it then yeah, but I'm not giving up a gaunce or anything.
-
Oh man I'd be pitchin a tent for a week if he fell to us. Hell, put him with the twins next year and see what happens. Throw him on the powerplay and I bet he wins the Calder. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Florida took him first. They could really use a star winger.
-
Absolutely dal Colle. He's gonna be a star. He's probably actually got superstar max ceiling. He's got franchise winger written all over him. I could see a player of Dal Colle Caliber being the situation that allows Bo to be a first line centre some day. A winger good enough to make a star out of the 1B centre. Dal Colle Horvat Kassian Shinkaruk Gaunce Jensen Your top six is 5 hard Canadians 4 with size and a big Danish sniper lol what more can you ask for? Start drafting big Dman and sign me up for the playoffs
-
I was actually just thinking about this. Ritchie may be a little more rare buts it's still pretty damn hard to acquire a big centreman with that much skill without having a high pick. I say Draisaitl but if the scouts picked Ritchie I wouldn't pretend I know better.
-
Lol ya I'd like to read his imaginary scouting report "Although the scouts all agree Nick has next to no Hockey IQ, he's kinda tall and they expect him to go very early in the first round"
-
I dunno, I'll probably get flamed but I take the Canadian kid over Nichushkin. The Russian is probably more skilled but if I'm building a championship team I want the heart of the Canadian kid on it. If he was in malkin's league it's another story but he's not. 1 man skills competition Nichushkin 4 7game playoff series' Ritchie
