  1. If hunter smith turns into a bickell I'd consider that a win
  2. If you really think about it, there's a risk around all of the players listed in our range. Virtanen could be bobby Ryan or he could be raffi Torres. Ritchie could be Milan Lucic or he could be tom Sestito. Ehlers could be Gaborik or he could be relegated to the Swiss league. Every one of them has a risk at 18yrs old, there is no safe picks. The only way to play it safe is take a guy with enough size that can crack the bottom six should he not reach his potential.
  3. You could very well be right, there's surprises every year. Those 5 have remained unchanged in every ranking though except for the couple that had Nylander in there. Thing is, at the expense of corrado you get to take your pick at 3rd. Not just see if someone slips.. if that even happens.. You could get a prospect of corrado caliber in a future trade, he's replaceable. Our defense is locked up right now too so we're not in any rush.
  4. He's not exactly blue chip though. He's good and I'm high on his potential as well but that's passing on a franchise first line centre.. Corrado is easily replaceable, getting a young franchise centre is pretty damn hard.
  5. Yeah but it if they only take the deal for corrado, would you do it?
  6. We don't.. It's a risk, but how much of one? Give up corrado and get a guaranteed Bennett or Reinhart, one of the top 3 players in the draft. Stand pat and maybe get one of Draisaitl or dal Colle. Most likely going home at the end of the day with Ritchie or Virtanen. I think we are upgrading no doubt. You're giving the scouts, the guys you pay good money to take who they feel is the third best player in the draft. I think everyone is in agreement it drops off after 5, probably even a drop off from 3-4,5. I hate using the term on unproven kids but your pretty much guaranteeing a solid shot at a franchise player. At the expense of only corrado, I like the idea.
  7. That's true. Maybe we'd have to add but it's not a massive jump to 3rd. It's 3 spots and the safest place to grab Fluery. If they trade down any further, a team might snag the 2nd best dman in the draft before them. It's just based on the assumption they want to draft Fluery anyways. They could be very high on him.
  8. I'd be willing to draft defenseman in every round after and the first round next year to upgrade Ritchie/Virtanen to Reinhart/Bennett. Point being, if corrado is all it takes to make that upgrade, it'll be a lot easier to replace him in the future than it will to get a player like Reinhart or Bennett. We'd be stupid not to make that deal because we are too thin on D prospects.
  9. I'd do Corrado and our pick to move up to 3rd.
  10. Mackenzie had us taking Ritchie I'm pretty sure. I'd be cool with him or Virtanen.
  11. Saw Mackenzie's list but missed button. Who'd he have at 6th?
  12. Where did you read Nylander is slow? Every bio I've seen said good speed and handles the puck well at high speeds. The way I look at it is pretty much the general feeling from pro scouts is Nylander is the better player. He seems to get ranked higher everywhere. Not only that, the way the describe him makes him sound like he's quite the special player. "As a scout you want to pay for the ticket just to see him play"
  13. It used to be you could only move up 4 spots. This is the first year that whoever wins moves up to first regardless of position.
  14. Love how in the featured stories at the bottom it says back by popular demand nhl draft lottery simulator. Lol gettin a little used to this Edmonton? Took me around 20 tries to get van, in that time hurricanes won like 5 times haha. God that would be a piss off
  15. It might not even be a gamble. I don't watch these kids regularly, scouts do. If they think he's the real deal then I hope they pick him. If they think he doesn't compete hard enough like TO says, then I hope they don't. If they got a real good feeling about him then we may have a 100 point player on our hands. I'd take that over a guy that ends up as and 2nd 3rd line tweener.
  16. How the hell am I supposed to do that? It's all made up crap by you lol. Shinkaruk is just as skilled? Is he? I dunno. Jensen has a better shot? Does he? I'll give it a whirl anyways Looking at our younger players/prospects we have pretty good size. Kassian Cassels Gaunce Horvat Jensen Matthias Grenier Labate. We are pretty lacking in the higher end skill department with only shinkaruk.. So trying to use your way of breaking it down then yeah it may be time to take the gamble on some skill
  17. Nobody has love issues except you and your hard on for big players. I could really care less who we draft because anyone in the top ten is a good player. Any of us willing to entertain Nylander actually just respect his high skill level. You looked at one stat(size) and decided he doesn't play the game hard enough. If his compete level was of any concern, he wouldn't be ranked in the top 5. Honestly, I prefer a big Canadian kid filled roster myself but I have complete respect for the skill level of Nylander and Ehlers. There's no point in making stupid assumptions he doesn't compete hard enough when we all know damn well you've barely seen him play, if at all. An entire team of Nylanders would never win you the cup. An entire team of Ritchie's won't either, you a need balance of both skill and size.
  18. You sound completely ridiculous, maplelaughs. I get it, you want to draft bigger players but trying to describe a kid ranked 5th overall on iss as if he's bill sweat is retarded.
  19. He's going to draft who he thinks is the best player. Did you read the article? He broke down the top 5 and gave all of them great praise. He said Draisaitl played the best out of them in just one game. Not sure what he's talking about but I'm guessing it was the top prospects game. He's a GM that attended a game, he's not stupid enough to think if he says that it will change the minds of the other teams pro scouts sitting 4 seats over. The article was an Edmonton news paper writer giving his opinion on who buffalo will take.
  20. Lol bumping his stock?.. To other teams fans maybe. They actually watch these kids. Whoever wins the lotto is not going to listen to another teams media tidbit.
  21. That is Craig buttons list from a lil while ago. Central Scoutings final rankings has Virtanen at 6th for North American skaters... Just because cdc is going bananas over Ehlers, doesn't mean the pro scouts are just as enthusiastic.
  22. Thats the scouts job. my job is to drool over big hits and nice goals in youtube videos haha Thats why i dont really care who we pick. im just pumped to be in the top ten and maybe even 6th(go oilers lol). Whoever they pick with our first rounder, im sure they have better reasons for doing so than me sitting in front of the computer arguing back and forth with my CDC homies.
  23. I am willing to bet you could find an nhl goal that looks exactly like every one of his goals. That is an nhl caliber shot he's getting off at the age of 17. Extremely fast and accurate NHL goalies are not robots
  24. I'd still take Draisaitl over him but Virtanen is starting to take my number six spot.
