Waste of a pick? Lol anybody that takes the kid would have great use for him. I sure hope our next GM doesn't plan on rolling with the same top 4 guys until they're pushing 40.
-
Eklund is gonna go bonkers with proposals once the new guy is hired haha
-
Haha I know, I'd be pissed too at Ho Sang too. In the long run if scored 80 points I'd bow haha And yeah, I got a feeling there has to be a surprise in that top 5. Last year we kept seeing Nichushkin ranked in the top 5 and he fell to tenth. Getting 6th is huge for us and getting 5th would be unreal, then your in top 3 slippage range.
-
I don't disagree with you necessarily. If we can actually get Bennett Reinhart or Draisaitl then for sure, you'd be an idiot not to. But those three are a pipe dream. If you looking at perlini and the higher top ten picks, I don't think Fluery is a bad pick at all. My personal preference if everything goes as we expect in the top 5 is actually Nylander(first line centre potential, maximum ceiling- superstar) then probably Ritchie. After those 2 id be pleased with a Fleury pick. Big smooth skating physical defenseman that could be the rock on the left that gives subban the room to succeed. Really whoever we pick in the first, whether it be Fleury or even Josh Ho Sang, if he actually pans out... we win.
-
I think we could use a real blue chipper back there. Really who do we have that's promising that isn't part of the aging core? Tanev Corrado, maybe Hutton, maybe Subban. The others aren't exactly knocking at the door. Up front we have Kassian Jensen Horvat Gaunce Shinkaruk, maybe Cassels maybe Fox showing promise. Not saying we shouldn't draft a forward, I think I'd still rather grab a forward with the high pick this year. Just pointing out our future when Fleury will be breaking out, doesn't have a lot of promise in it defense wise.
-
Whatever. I was a supporter but I'll welcome the change. I liked how he rebuid the prospect depth and didnt jump at any chance to trade Horvat ect. The new guy has to come in and build on the good things gillis has done and we'll be a good team again soon. If he comes in and starts trading all these bright future pieces for some phil kessel's because he want's a contender asap, we'll be back to the mid to late 90s vancouver canucks in no time.

If we're drafting based on nationality then taking a canadian is no brainer. We've dominated the game from day one. If we land just outside the top 5, im very curious about Nylander. He's got a higher skill level than any of those guys in that range. Real first line centre potential. If the scouts think he's the real deal, I hope they take him. We could use true first line star potential and you either have to draft it or trade the farm for it. This year we have the chance to actually draft it and not hope on a late pick surprise to be that guy..... if the scouts arent sold on him, i hope they take a canadian powerforward or fleury.

Thats what I'm thinking. Every gm has trades that dont quite work out, Linden will be no exception. Every gm is bound to have a disappointing season, Linden will be no exception there either.
-
Bennet does seem to have great hands though. The one scout said he could have a toews like career on the latest tsn write up
-
did they release a list like the march one on their site that has all the players combined? im interested as to where nylander sits on that list
-
If we lucked out and won the lotto. Is anyone else liking Bennett over Reinhart? Hard not to take the Vancouver boy but man I love how Bennett plays.
-
Me too, I'd really like to at least land 6th though. Then we got a shot at the cdc projected top 5 if one team goes off the board.
-
Damn, Winnipeg lost. They've got 2 games left Boston and Calgary. Hopefully Boston rests their stars and Peg takes it to em. Assuming we lose this 2-0 game we're in. We sit six points ahead of Calgary. They have LA WPG and us left. If they win all 3 and we lose them in reg, I believe they have the tie breaker. Perfect storm draft pick wise. Winnipeg beats Boston and loses to calg. Calg continues their streak and we draft 5th(assuming the other teams below us get a point)
-
Spot on with nuge but if Hertl's size is a problem we better leave Horvat down until he's 26
-
See guys, this is why we can't have nice threads
-
We could use a lefty, I'd take Fluery. We have a similar player to deangelo in Subban. Later pick but that's probably just due to jordans size. As I've said in earlier posts, I think a guy like Fluery 6'3 200lbs physical great skating defensive guy could be a key to the success of a small offensive guy like subban. Also Fluery had 46 points this year. That's not bad at all. Scouts still say he has more to give on the offensive side.

I like Nylander over Ehlers. First line centre potential
-
That would be unreal, I was thinking the same thing about Bennett. Let's hope Tallon really wants him. I could see Dal Colle being the odd man out too. Bennett and Leon rounding out the top 5 after Tallon takes Ehlers. resign Kesler as our 1st line centre(unless we totally blow it next year too and draft Mcjesus), Dal Colle steps up huge in his first camp. Kassian fully breaks out. First line in 2yrs Dal Colle Kesler Kassian Sedin Sedin Jensen Shinkaruk Horvat Burrows Oh to dream lol

Nobody gauranteed anything, we just discussed the possibility of teams that may go off the board. It happens all the time in the draft. More so than cdc's gauranteed top 10 we project every year. I bet if someone said jones was going 4th last year you would have said they were nuts haha.. Relax man, we've beaten "Ehlers or Ritchie?" to death. There's no reason we can't discuss the possibility of someone slipping in the draft, especially when throughout history it's actually happened.
-
That happens all the time in the nhl. If you held a grudge every time a team traded with another team instead of you, you'd never get a deal done. They're in the business to win not hold highschool grudges. If we signed Hall to a 9 million dollar offersheet I could see the bitterness lingering cus they're still paying for it. I really don't see a trade that never happened being the end all be all on the trade relationship between 2 teams. If they really want to draft Fluery and can pick up a guy ready to step in the nhl like corrado too then I don't see why they wouldn't.. Taking Fluery with the 3rd pick just pushes a good player to us anyways. I don't know what it would actually take but there's no harm in exploring it.
-
That's the beauty of grabbing the 6th pick eh. If Edmonton does want to trade down we'd be the number 1 target pick so they don't miss out on him. MG and MacT could agree on a deal before hand should ekblad be taken. Corrado 1st could be very attractive to them if they plan on taking Fluery anyways. It might be a steep price for us to pay just to jump 3 spots but how much better would we be with Sam Bennett than Corrado Ritchie/Nylander? Time will tell but a guy like Bennett could be on Keslers wing maybe even next year. Or possibly even Reinhart if Florida goes for what they really need in Dal Colle. Starting next season with a blue chip guy feeding Kesler could really turn us around quickly.. It also gives us a replacement for him should we not fair well and look to unload Kesler to a contender with a season left on his contract.. Then we're not demanding a centre, we're just looking for corrado replacements.
-
we say the same thing every year and there's always surprises. I won't be too shocked to see Nylander Fluery or Ritchie go in the top 5. All have interesting traits that a team could rank them higher. Nylander is already ranked 5th and has been highly ranked for 2 years. He's been on scouts radar for some time now.. He's probably the most purely skilled player in the draft. There might be a safer pick but if a team is sold on his skill he might get taken over Draisaitl or Dal Colle. Ritchie is a rare breed in his own, you don't find players that big and tough that can score that much. If one team overvalued toughness, they may go off and select him. Burke? Fluery, we may not value him high because we don't see him play, wouldn't surprise me if the number 3 team like Edmonton goes off the board to select him. Just because some hockey stat readers thought Bennett was the best at number 3 doesn't mean Edmonton won't think their drafting the next seabrook.
-
Who's top 5? Every scout and team has guys ranked differently. Better the pick the better the pick.
-
haha well we play Anaheim and Colorado next. They can whoop us back to 6th.
-
Isles too with an extra game. If we keep getting spanked and one of those teams go on a run you'd be guaranteed one of Bennett Dal Colle Draisaitl. That would be unreal for the future of this team haha
