  1. The not worth it thing is what I'm getting at. Maybe he is in their eyes based on extensive scouting. Mid season Edmonton pretty much knew they were going to be picking in his range and had to have scouted him big time. If they were pretty sure he's the next seabrook, maybe they go for him. Be nice to make that trade up with them tho.. If we have 6th, I wonder if our first and second would do it.
  2. I think Florida takes dal colle. They're loaded with top end young centres. Same with buffalo, I can't see them passing on ekblad just because they have Tyler Myers. They have good young centres as well. One thing I'm wondering, if buffalo takes ekblad, any chance Edmonton goes off the board for Fluery? He's been ranked 6th a few times this year. I'm betting Edmonton has scouted the crap outta him all year because if their major need back there.. They're loaded with talent up front, it wouldn't shock me to see them look past BPA to take a guy like Fluery.
  3. I would say it's probably magnified it a bit. I see him more as a cassels type pick. Second rate talent with intangibles to succeed.. The name thing probably gives him more of a look. More so because his dad played a solid role in 4 Stanley cups. Add to that his game is looking like it models straight after his dad. The way I break it down is if we have a late first in a deal why not take him even if there is more skilled players. You still need these types of players to win cups. He plays the game like poppa bear so you gotta think the weekly phone convo advice is going to pay off more than say Domi talkin to dad.. Because of the bloodlines I'd expect some catering in his development. Everyone knows what Claude did in the league so you know he'll be given absolutely every opportunity to try and become the same player.
  4. I wouldn't really say he's a lock to be picked by them. Jones had major Denver roots and was passed over. They'll go with the player they think best fits their vision and future. they're also pretty weak on the right side when it comes to quality future wingers.
  5. Cool article on Brendan Lemieux. Don't know if he'll still be around at our second pick but man id love to add him to the prospect pool. Or If we get a late first in a draft day deal i really hope we take him. Game models after his dad and pops won 4 cups lol even if he busts i wont hold it against gillis one bit haha from the calgary sun sometime in january
  6. I know Burke likes big tough guys but they can be found throughout the draft. I think for a rebuilding team they gotta find that second top six centre of the future. Draisaitl fits what they need very well. I think he'll pass on Nylander. If they pick fifth and Draisaitl goes fourth, I could see them passing on dal Colle to take Ritchie. If either Leon Reinhart or Bennett left I think calg takes a centre. They'd be stupid not too. One interesting thought is if nyi give their pick to buffalo. If buffalo gets a centre with the first or second overall, and Draisaitl is left at the nyi pick, do they take Fluery or Ritchie to fill a different position?
  7. So barring a surprise, the top 5 goes as we expect with dal Colle and Draisaitl rounding off the big 3. We are sliding but have 9 points on 5th spot. Say we pick sixth, who do we pick? It's kind of a tough call eh.. Picking 8-12 you kind of get help making the decision as a couple guys are gone. How do you get to the conclusion of who is the best of the rest. You get your pick out of Ritchie, Nylander, Perlini, Ehlers, Virtanen, Fluery haha quite a tough decision picking 6th
  8. if a trade like that actually happens. We get Anaheim's Ott pick and then flip em both for Dal Colle.. I'd probly be watching the draft goin "holy crap these guys wanted Dal Colle in a bad way, he MUST be the real deal" haha
  9. Myself I like the idea of pouliot and a late first more than that Anaheim deal.. I think Derek Pouliot is a better star addition than Either Etem or any pick we have a realistic shot at.. We've made great late first picks in the past couple years too. If I had my pick out of Pouliot or any of the picks 6-12, I'd still take him every time. Better prospect and most likely ready to step in and kick edler out the door haha. You want sure fire rookies like MDC? Well it don't get any better than DP when it comes to dmen.
  10. I hear ya. I'd way rather have him than anyone ranked 6-12. I just don't think coughing up 2 picks right after him is a smart move.. Cam Barker should be a top 5 dman in the league right now but it didn't happen. Id rather come out of the draft with Ritchie/Perlini and Fluery than put all my money on MDC. Even if MDC ends up an 80 point player, if Ritchie is a 60-70 point guy down the road and Fluery is looking like the second coming of seabrook. We still make off better. The other thing is. Have 2 top ten players join the pool gives us more depth and flexability. It gives us the wiggle room to add a solid prospect in a later trade. If we end up with Virtanen and McCann, maybe the emergence of McCann makes gaunce expendable or vise versa. The draft is full of surprises and disappointments. IMO the only sure bet to be a superstar in this draft is Ekblad. The rest I'd be hesitant to trade 2 picks for.. Unless it's a real late first and a 7-9th overall.
  11. If we got ottawa's pick too I would not trade them both for dal Colle. Way rather just pick 2 players. There's no guarantee MDC is a future first line superstar. Got a better chance at that keeping 2 picks shortly after him. I'd trade both for ekblad but that's about it.
  12. Maybe there is a reason torts refuses to take Lack out. Pray for Eddie but fail for Draisaitl!!
  13. Yeah but I'd rather find out how much Mr Draisaitl is benching in July than Mr McCann. You are right though, as crappy as this season has gone, it's pretty exciting going into this off season with a top ten pick plus a signing like fox. Potential Kesler deal for future stars ect. My dream is Kesler gets flipped for pouliot 1st and whatever else. Instant excitement right there. Kid with the ability to be the next Duncan Keith. Late first we take Lemieux. Assuming we don't fall to 5th, with our first we get Ritchie. 2 hard to play against forwards built to compete in our division and the puck moving dman we've always wanted. If gillis gets that done, I'll purchase google glasses and wear em under my welding helmet all summer to argue with stubborn CDCers haha
  14. God that would a blessing to fall to 5th. Get Draisaitl Bennett or Dal Colle and I'll spend my entire summer in the prospect forum haha.
  15. I think he'd be a beauty pick. The toughness in our top six would be off the charts in a few years. Him and Kassian on the first and second lines would give guys like shinkaruk a major confidence boost to play bigger than they are. Once we draft Mcdavid haha Ritchie Mcdavid Kassian Don't even look at him lol
  16. That wouldn't be worth it for them. They're going to get a pretty damn good centre this year if they don't win the lottery. Mcdavid is great but he's not Gretzky. Highly doubt they trade most of their rebuild for 1 player.
  17. There will be absolutely no trading for the Mcdavid pick. The team that holds first overall next year will not give that up if you offered 6 Bo Horvats, let alone gaunce and a couple firsts.
  18. Even if they do it's probably still after the 20th pick because of how many reg season points they have. Unless there's major upsets in the first round, they likely have the worst pick of the 8 eliminated teams.
  19. I think the entire point of trading the pick for them would be to make them competitive now. 2 later picks probably doesn't do much for them. They would probably want good young dmen coming their way. Otherwise might as well just draft Reinhart and throw him in with the rest of the kids. Maybe draft him and trade one of the established guys for what they need.
  20. Yeah maybe you get Edmonton to bite. Even them though I'd rather just take Reinhart. They can find a Hansen somewhere and beyond the top 5 there's no sure bets. They kinda need the help now and might want more nhl readiness. Put Tanev in there somehow and I bet they start getting serious.
  21. Probably going to have to dangle Horvat to get the Reinhart pick or it wouldn't be worth it for the trading team.
  22. Yeah, I question how available he really is. Chicago is an amazing team as is. Do they really need Kesler, especially at the expense of their best prospect. They won 2 cups recently, if I'm them, I keep my kids and try and sign stastny or Callahan if I really want another centre. Teravainen shaw and a pick would be pretty sweet though haha
  23. Kinda think it's an overpayment. Bonino is a beauty but I question that the Kesler value is? Bonino and the 27th overall? If that's the case then shinkaruk for the 6th or 7th pick. I'm not so sure that player is guaranteed better than shinkaruk. I say that because shinkaruk looked pretty damn solid at preseason and almost made the team right after his draft. So was perlini or any of the guys ranked 6-10 a better junior than shinkaruk? 90 something points the year before his draft and 80 something in his draft year for hunter. Size was the question but it didn't look like it was going to be a problem at his first ever training camp. So my conclusion is what's the point of trading a guy we've gotten a look at just to take gamble on another kid. I guess overpayment was the wrong word, should have said not worth it. Unless you got an agreed deal lined up to get into the top five, I wouldn't do it.
  24. Exactly, philly likely won't move Schenn and definitely won't even talk about couturier. Laughton? Might as well just play Horvat. Detroit would have to insane to move nyquist after how he's played this year. Anaheim is interesting. They have Etem, he's unproven but a top ten pick in the draft gives the deal something to think about. Pitt has Sutter, unless you got Stamkos and Tavares on his wings, he's not the answer. I would be into taking him if Pouliot is the main piece and they won't give up Bennett as well.
  25. Unless philly steps up I don't see us getting a young centre that is any more ready to make an impact than Horvat. Even if you get Etem out of Anaheim, he still hasn't proven anything. I'd rather see us try and get a puck moving defenseman like Pouliot. He may not be ready to make a huge impact either but probably carries more future star power than any centre we get in a Kesler deal. I just think we gotta go for star power at another position and try and figure out another way to get an impact top six centre.
