  1. With better offensive upside. He's no lindros or anything but his skill set has the big guy poised to go top ten. Hard for any team outside the top 5 not to take the gamble. The reward could be massive.
  2. Yeah I'm curious about this Nylander fella. A lot of lists have him pretty high I just get turned off by his size.. Does anyone have any insight on him? Like is he one of those small guys who's pretty much a can't miss regardless? Or why is he usually the highest ranked of the tiny guys? I think I remember hearing his name last year as one of the guys to watch t the next draft along with ekblad Reinhart so I guess he's been on the radar for some time. Edit.. Just googled him and found this cool tid bid in the memorable moments section on elite prospects. - 2013-02-12 • Made Allsvenskan debut (vs. Leksands IF). Nylander made his debut on the 2nd line alongside his father Michael Nylander and French forward Damien Fleury, he wore #88. Pretty cool makes pro debut on dads line
  3. Shinkaruk has that elite scorer potential. I know he's a long shot too but everyone's a long shot to be an elite scorer in the nhl. Look at a guy like Claude Giroux, 22nd overall, smaller guy, 100 point player for 3 seasons in the Q. People weren't saying he's a lock to be philly's top scorer for years. He was still a risk reward guy. We may have one of those guys in shinkaruk. By the way I'm not saying he's going to be Claude lol just an example of smaller skilled guy. I wouldn't count out shinkaruk to be a top line player some day
  4. Dope Haha Cheer our rivals for Draisaitl!!
  5. I think Draisaitl fits our needs the most. He's already got the strength and size to possibly make the jump. If Kesler is on his way out over the next couple years it would be nice to have insurance on Horvat should he need more third line time. It would also give us the flexibility when we trade him to not be so picky to take the best young centre available. Now you can trade him for a great young winger to compliment Leon. Or perhaps it's more of a hockey deal 1 for 1 situation getting Draisaitl a vet to take the pressure off.
  6. Here's how the lottery broke down over the years 1995: The Los Angeles Kings moved from 7th to 3rd and selected defenseman Aki Berg. 1996: The Ottawa Senators retained the top pick and selected defenseman Chris Phillips. 1997: The Boston Bruins retained the top pick and selected center Joe Thornton. 1998: San Jose won the draft lottery. But the Tampa Bay Lightning had the right to exchange first-round picks with the Sharks because of a previous transaction. Tampa exercised that right and selected center Vincent Lecavalier. 1999: The Chicago Blackhawks moved from 8th to 4th: pick was traded and ended up with the New York Rangers, who selected right wing Pavel Brendl. 2000: The New York Islanders moved from 5th to 1st and selected goaltender Rick DiPietro. The Atlanta Thrashers dropped from 1st to 2nd and selected forward Dany Heatley. 2001: The Atlanta Thrashers moved from 3rd to 1st and selected left wing Ilya Kovalchuk. The New York Islanders dropped from 1st to 2nd, and traded the pick to the Ottawa Senators. Ottawa selected center Jason Spezza. 2002: The Florida Panthers moved from 3rd to 1st. The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired the pick in a trade and selected left wing Rick Nash. The Atlanta Thrashers dropped from 1st to 2nd and selected goaltender Kari Lehtonen. 2003: The Florida Panthers moved from 4th to 1st. The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired the pick in a trade and selected goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury. The Carolina Hurricanes dropped from 1st to 2nd and selected center Eric Staal. 2004: The Washington Capitals moved from 3rd to 1st and selected left wing Alex Ovechkin. The Pittsburgh Penguins dropped from 1st to 2nd and selected center Evgeni Malkin. 2005: In a special lottery to determine the draft order after the 2004-05 season was canceled due to the lockout, the Pittsburgh Penguins won the top pick and selected center Sidney Crosby. 2006: The St. Louis Blues retained the top pick and selected defenseman Erik Johnson. 2007: The Chicago Blackhawks moved from 5th to 1st and selected right wing Patrick Kane. The Philadelphia Flyers dropped from 1st to 2nd and selected forward James van Riemsdyk. 2008: Tampa Bay retained the top pick and selected center Steven Stamkos. 2009: The New York Islanders retained the top pick and selected center John Tavares. 2010: The Edmonton Oilers retained the top pick and selected left wing Taylor Hall. 2011: The New Jersey Devils moved from 8th to 4th and selected defenseman Adam Larsson. 2012: The Edmonton Oilers moved from 2nd to 1st and selected forward Nail Yakupov.
  7. Tough call ekblad would be awesome but my gut tells me take Reinhart haha.. Like I've posted before if we won the lotto and Edmonton is top 3 I offer to make a trade down. They need top defense more than anything. If they're willing to part with yak for Schroeder, i swap them picks. Still getting a 3rd overall pick if yak doesn't pan out. It's a gamble but if it pays off you got 2 future stars not one. For Edmonton it's a slam dunk getting to draft ekblad themselves and not forking out even more assets to get a top defender.
  8. Yeah, if a team after us in the draft wins, then they leapfrog to first pushing everyone in front of them including us one spot back.. If a team that wins is in front of us then it has no effect as the spot shuffle won't reach us. I read through the history of winners and there's some interesting ones Patrick Kane was Chicago having 5th spot but winning the lotto. Also Adam Larsson in 2011 was NJ winning the lotto from 8th place!! but the rules at the time you could only move up 4 spots. Cross your fingers boys!
  9. Oh haha.. Yeah just because we've taken big players doesn't mean their all hockey senseless idiots. We've got several prospects praised for their smarts but any gillis hater won't admit that. I apologize for the smarta$$ comment.
  10. That's wrong, the oilers are second last with 52 points and 17 games to go. Winning them all gives them 86 points. We're at 68 with 15 games left. It's actually still possible for us to come in dead last but the win/losing streaks would have to be pretty incredible
  11. Oh god if we get him that has to be his name haha
  12. Interested in what the deal with that Kempe is? Must have huge untapped potential for him to put him that high with 11 points in 45 games. Granted it's a kid playing pro but still. I wonder if we get another pick in a draft day deal if he'll still be around? Getting dal Colle or someone at 1-6 and stealing Kempe later would be amazing if he's as good as button thinks. I seen him ranked way lower on other lists.
  13. I doubt it. Best you'll get is a late first unless he goes to Detroit but even then it's probably 10-14. If we trade him we need a young future star coming back.
  14. Do you follow our prospects or just read anti gillis threads on cdc?
  15. I think it's great you have that much faith in the team but i really wouldn't be surprised to see us fall even further after watching last nights game.
  16. Here's a little bit of hope, I looked up draft lotto results. In 2011 the devils won it at 8th place but could only move up to 4th. Also Pat Kane was drafted with Chicago winning the lotto at 5th place. Pretty cool that this year no matter who wins they move all the way to first overall.
  17. Ya, at the same time though Anaheim tanked 2 years ago and bounced back. We got kids pretty close to making the jump, who knows, we might only need to tank this one season.
  18. Currently we're drafting 8th, we're the worst team in the league since New Year and everyone has games in hand on us.. With the way things are looking, we're at least getting perlini if not better
  19. Just googled the league standings from 2011-12(last full season). The bottom 3 teams finished with 65 74 78pts, followed by 79 and 80pts. We currently have 68pts and are in complete disarray. We keep blowing it and we could very well be in the top 5 if not top 3. This is pretty embarrassing lol but at the same time could be a blessing. We may actually land that future elite player this year.
  20. Change the title to top five extravaganza and pin this baby
  21. Cool, I want him haha.. ISS has him at 22nd in the mid term, I imagine he'll climb but I wouldn't say he's a lock to go top 10. That being said, it still wouldn't surprise me. With Bennett Reinhart ekblad draisaitl dal Colle all around top 5, then you gotta think at least one more dman if not 2 go in there. Plus 3 beauty power forwards Ritchie Virtanen perlini. Quite a few "safe picks" to go for so it's possible we snag him around 10th.
