Problem is Kesler has a say where he goes. Not only will he not be in the running for the cup in the last 2 years of his contract, he won't be as attractive to throw big money at if he's not scoring as much on a bad team in his 30s. Obviously he's still going to command a solid contract but maybe not as big or long as if he has a great 2 seasons on a good team. Right now gives Kesler himself a good look at playoff bound teams and it also gives the team acquiring him 3 playoff runs with the playoff warrior as opposed to 2. Also it gives us a chance to see what we got with let's say couturier. How our players gel with him and what we target going into next year. He's also the biggest name out there right now as opposed to the offseason when teams have multiple options and free agents to go for. when we're commanding their best young player best prospect and their first, they can look elsewhere to boost their lineup.

I wonder how interested Kesler really is in leaving? All that here-say crap about him asking for a trade I think is bogus, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't accept a trade at all. I'm just curious if he is willing to waive.. The huge offers are coming in as per the insiders. You gotta think a couple are going to be good enough for gillis to pull the trigger. If He's not dealt by Wednesday I'd be putting my money on him vetoing it over gillis not pulling the trigger. That being said, gillis has probably talked to him about what is going on and usually a GM comes out and says said player is not going anywhere when there is actually no chance of them leaving. You guys think gillis would have put the rumors to rest by now if Kes said piss off I'm staying?

Bennett pouliot sutter and a pick? 22yr old top six winger with huge upside already looking like a stud One of the best offensive defense prospects out there drafted 8th overall 25 yr old stud 3rd line centre And a pick Your not getting mackinnon quality in a Kesler trade.. If your going for a youth retool you drug Kesler and force him to sign before we're the flames in 3 yrs

That doesn't really make sense. Kesler isn't Crosby and won't net you a star, blue chip prospect and 1st. If he is traded for another premier player it's a 1 for 1 swap and that doesn't really help us. Trading him is accepting this team can't compete with the best right now and retooling to peak again sooner than later. You trade him for a premier player and were in the same situation we are with him. Declining and unable to compete with whoever we get in the trade.. Also that player leaves around the same time Kesler would because we continued to slide downhill. Trading him is to get a package of youngsters that can be our next Kesler. So let's say Sutter maata 2nd makes us worse right now, it makes us better in a few years when maata is blossoming into a great top pairing dman and sutter is a premier 3rd line centre. Not to mention another 2nd round prospect in the system.. This is a better scenario than turning into the Calgary flames Now you got a young stud on the blue line and can afford to sell another dman or 2 in the near future. With sutter on board you can trade gaunce and gain another asset, or keep gaunce and trade sutter for another prospect. Basically getting a package for Kesler sets us up to be able to afford young star up front. With maata/pouliot, sutter and 1st/2nd we can afford to create a package this summer to get a young star centreman. Edler straight up might get it alone or edler ++ might get you someone unreal.

I like where Gallagher was going with his article and his reference to the pronger trade. I also kinda like the idea the penguins writer was throwing around. If we can get sutter pouliot 1st, I say take it. Sutter is no Kesler but pouliot has a good chance of being a high impact player. On top of that you get a beauty young third line centre and another first. That's 3 young players almost nullifying a rebuild when you look at the prospects we already have. Then you go back to what gallahger was saying about a second deal.. You make a hockey trade in the summer with edler. Or perhaps even make a package around him as you just added 3 good young pieces you can afford to throw a gaunce Jensen or corrado in there. We'd essentially have the pieces to go out and aquire a good young Kesler replacement.

High chance it's neither of them. I think it's just a matter of could you get a decent enough return for either guy that would be worth the step back now in order to contend sooner than later. Say Detroit is offering nyquist and a 3rd for edler but philly is 100% set on acquiring Kesler and offering BSchenn, 1st +. This team is only going to decline unless a couple prospects step in and make some noise immediately. The chances of one of our guys exploding on to the scene hertl style are slim so it's time to seriously consider the take 1 step back to take 2 steps forward. That being said gillis won't get rid of him just to get rid of him, it's gotta be a substantial return or it's not worth it. I'd hate to give up Kesler but if the price is right we'd be stupid not to take it.

It wasn't true and it was back in 02.. What happened was they had Canadian rink workers in Salt Lake City because they were the best(lucky loonies dudes). They told Cassie Campbell that the USA team had been using the Canadian flag as a doormat in their dressing room. Cassie waited until the second intermission to tell the team about it and it fired them right up. Cassie later apologized for Hayley's rant after they found out the ice workers fabricated the story to motivate the team.

Man what an awesome unforeseeable development move. One of our better 2 way prospects gets traded to play on a line with the 2 top scorers in the league. With Schroeder showing serious potential, Kassian coming into his own, signing fox, gaunce lighting it up with 2 stars and last years draft, our future is getting brighter by the day. Times are kinda tough at the moment but were in a position that we won't really have to completely tank before climbing back up. Some people don't like this "process" but I'll take it over the Calgary process any day.

If anything, everyone we add this year seems to have the best season of their career so far haha. A new face can't hurt

He's the best penalty killer in the league and plays first unit powerplay.. It's quite possible And crying over a Dale Weise trade is ridiculous, get ahold of yourself, man.

Montreal boards think they should have gotten more for Diaz. Think he's worth more than a fourth liner. Read things like Diaz has the higher upside, lots of sarcastic "great another grinder", shoulda traded Diaz sooner and got more, maybe he'll steal webers job again

Henrik Santorelli Tanev and Bieksa were terrible last night.

I predict a bunch of crybaby threads on CDC win or lose -
Yea.. Beat it, edler and take burrows with ya! I totally voted for Hutton today

I think we're doing it, just our timeline is a year or 2 off. We got youth starting to come into their own and some decent prospects coming down the pipe. LA also had a team that couldn't get their crap together until game one of the playoffs. Then they steamrolled their way to the cup. Our supporting cast(Higgins Kassian Sestito Richardson) is trying their ass off to keep us afloat, if our stars get going we could still be a dangerous team come playoff time.
-
Actually they got bounced in the first round 2 years in a row, didn't they?.. So did we

The first 15 seconds were awesome...
