Buddy with the spark plug thread called it haha -
Man, just imagine what Lain Ballard and a 1st coulda got us

I'd do the first deal for sure. I'd almost rather keep Schroeder and the second though. Ott would be nice but he's getting older. I'd rather Santorelli centering the third line with Schroeder on his wing or even booth who's not doing terrible on the third. Then you still got a chance to make hockey players out of JS and the second.

Lol our power play blows as is, ROR has 18 goals this year. I'm pretty certain he could help a little with a power play that's been stale since 2011. If we aquired any top six player he'd help our 1st power play unit that hasn't really seen a new face in 3 years. Hell, Sestito freakin helped on the power play haha.

Ya I'm not really buying they actually want to move him either. I'm thinking it's more media hype because he's finally going to be eligible for trade. I'm sure they'll listen to offers but I think it's going to take at least edler to get em close to pulling the trigger. I wouldn't be adding picks or prospects either
-
You definitely got a point, Elvis. Perhaps we could be better going after a more dynamic goal scorer but the consistent ones are few and far between when it comes to trades. Waiting for that deal could be the death of us. I'm also thinking adding a guy like O'Reilly could be what pushes Kassian to really break out. It would be nice to have another option at centre on the second line for our prospects to find success with. When they slide in with Kesler, their success is at the mercy of Kes not going one man army and the torts giving up on them with the lack of chemistry. Part of me thinks going after a top six centreman over scoring winger gives guys like Kass Jensen shinkaruk grenier fox all a greater chance of success. It also opens up the possibility of moving Kesler eventually. If ROR shines and More prospects crack the top six, we can maybe look at prying a sweet package outta Detroit.
-
I think they should have to add but I'm not so sure I would turn down the one for one deal if it was take it or leave it. At some point we need to make a splash and this would be a hard opportunity to pass up. Parting with edler blows but if we can flip one of our impact players into a significantly younger impact player, I say do it and don't look back. This kid is way better than Kesler was at 22, who knows how good he'll end up in the end.
-
I don't think that gets it done. While the value is probably there, I don't think they're going to offload him for a package. They're going to try and get the best defenseman possible for a 22yr old stud centreman. Tanevs as steady as they come but I'm sure someone else will offer up a better dman with serious intangibles. To outbid everyone else it'll probably cost edler.
-
No kidding lol that has to be the worst trade in years.
-
I think he'll do something dogbyte. You say we've desperately needed to add since sundin but in that time we've went to the finals with one of the most dominant regular seasons by any team in history. He added booth, it didn't work out but that was him going after a top six forward right after we lost to the bruins. He also traded our most nhl ready defense prospect and a second round pick for another in Derek Roy and was a front runner for clowe. He has taken swings but just hasn't hit the home run. I share your frustration but to say he hadn't done anything is inaccurate IMO. We could be in a lot worse shape if his moneyball moves didn't work either.
-
Exactly, this year was a total crapshoot and he did surprisingly well with the little wiggle room he had. Look at how many teams that went to the finals in recent years that have fallen completely off the map. We haven't, and you can thank gillis for that. Ya it would be nice if he somehow found us the next toews outta nowhere, but that is completely unrealistic. Was he supposed to trade Kesler for moulson and a first? Would we be smashing the ducks and hawks then?.. Absolutely not lol He's not going to go all in right now, that would be a major mistake. He made the coaching change and the shake up is coming but he's not trading Horvat for a rental this year. Get over it, CDC, you can't be the cup front runner every year.
-
I agree. Something's gotta give here. I'm starting to think even if he is overpaid, he might be the best option in the long run. Say we pass on this deal(if there even is a deal), what's the deal we actually end up making going to look like? You know it will happen eventually cus I doubt horvats gonna step in and put up 70 points next year. The deal we end up making probably isn't for a 22yr old player with as much potential as O'Reilly. Your gonna settle for a Steven Weiss type player with a few miles on him cus you waited too long AGAIN!! Edler for O'Reilly and don't look back.
-
I'm not sure i buy it. O'Reilly would be dope and we could part with a dman, but he isn't the kind of player gillis usually chases. Gillis goes for the guy who's gonna sign a long term, moderately priced deal to be a part of a tight core. This guy just signed a huge offer sheet to one of the worst teams in the league lol not exactly the kinda player gillis wants to be sitting across the table from talkin qualifying offers.
-
I feel some "if gillis woulda traded for this guy like I said, we'd be cup front runners" threads coming on
-
No way I'd cough up Tanev for Orielly with the qualifying offer he comes with. Orielly is good but way overpaid and not worth trading out best young player for.
-
Out of every hockey game I've ever watched, that was my favorite lol
-
I'm not sure if he didn't take any at all but Santorelli played on the top line tonight. He's our best face off man.
-
Back to positivity. How nice is it to finally have an legit heavyweight playing decent minutes, being a major physical force, getting in anyone's face that touches our guys and creating offensive chances? He's made an impact just about every time he's on the ice and the more ice time he gets the more he contributes. Torts really figured out how to use this guy and Tito is playing his role perfectly. He's able to control himself really well it seems. He doesn't go all Ben eager at inopportune times which seems to be a common theme among players like him. Anyways whether he can keep it up or not, right now I couldn't be happier for the guy. He's gotta be having the time of his life right now getting all this ice time.
-
I agree, buddy. All teams go through this from time to time. Sucks but it happens. I just hope we can figure this late game stuff out soon.
-
First of all I just wanna say Tom Sestito > Aaron Volpatti.. I don't care how hot his sister was On to the post game rant.. This is so damn frustrating. So many things are going right this season. We got our tough guy playing way beyond expectations, 2 off season signings being huge contributors, Tanev emerging as a legit top 4, Kassian taking big steps in the right direction, Lu playing great again, Kesler back to classic Kesler. All these major bright spots and yet we seem to find a way to make a bonehead move late in so many games and lose. It's not even an isolated group doing it, it's being done by the entire team. This isn't a problem a trade is going to fix. It doesn't matter what kinda changes we make if these guys can't figure how to lock down a lead. Hard to believe that a team with such great defensive players is having that much trouble in this area. Top pk team can't even shutdown a game in the final minute, this is getting ridiculous.
