  1. Great player no doubt, but he never got any of his teams even within sniffing distance of winning, not that he would have been solely to blame. I suppose my choice will be predicated on both greatness and perhaps multiple legitimate but failed runs at the cup. Is that an entirely new proposition? I don’t know but I’m finding it more difficult to come up with a candidate who was not only great but, because they got close, felt the most pain.
  2. Only one team won’t miss out. You are aware of that eventuality, surely. Not the only ones looking for right shot D’s.
  3. I don’t know if it’s the goal necessarily. I’ve never heard this goal offered by anyone associated with the team. I’m am inclined to believe, sadly, that mediocrity is the result, at least for now.
  4. Been secretly wishing The Right Time became the Canucks theme song. Thunderous!
  5. All four of Barzal, Dobson, Suzuki, Thomas would strain to have the potential and possible future impact of those “1 or 2” players. You build around our “1 or 2”.
  6. There ya go. Tanking is a process, not a single event. I’m glad you’ve had a chance to put things into some perspective. The level of excessive overreaction on these boards is comical. As many posters have pointed out, you can’t lose them all. Players don’t tank. Canuck players are not tanking nor did the Blues players tank tonight. A proper tank needs months if not years of careful planning. Can’t turn a tank on or off like a light switch.
  7. What are the chances that in re-interpreting this team, management goes too far for some, and not far enough for others? Will anybody be satisfied? The collected responses on these forums to the off season question seem to be in such opposition. I know I’m trying to find a middle ground between extremes while enjoying the mostly healthy debate.
  8. So help me Paterson ……. does he understand anything about tempting fate? What a putz! Bloody hell. Is Gaudette even playing tonight?
  9. wow ..... just read this entire thread and have to say it both lived up, and down to my expectations. I guess visceral, mean spirited professional character assassination is the coolest thing now should have just steered clear
  10. But the "market" doesn't sign him, the new management team does. I will agree, however, that his skating is underwhelming and that many of his goals have been the result of a legit NHL release and typical College level d- zone coverage. I'm not sure he pushes the play or drives any of his line mates to produce at a higher level. But, for a seventh rounder, if he can prove to be a bottom six complimentary scorer, that would be a great result.
  11. In the past 30 years (91-92 to 21-22) the franchise is about plus 200 wins and several (I wish there were more) playoff series victories. That is not a fail or C-. Middling to good overall but certainly with some extreme highs and a few low points. Forget this 4000 games bull#@*$. Those first 20 years are always going to disappoint and will tremendously skew numerical analysis. Speaking in a general sense, this team has given us some great thrills these past three decades. If you’ve somehow missed these moments you might simply be too young or suffer from unrealistic expectations as a fan.
  12. Well, I think there still remains about a 13.4 % chance that the analytics crowd isn’t over estimated at all, according to my modelling. A bit of a wait and see.
  13. I can’t imagine anyone challenging you on this take but Mantha? Really? FAR more complete? Kane and Wheeler are better but they’re near forty years old. FAR better? As players? Assets? After a little bit of thinking that’s my take, for what it’s worth.
  14. Exactly. Bottom team, by the way, that beat Florida, Pittsburgh and Anaheim in the last month who each, to one degree or another, handed to our beloved Nucks. This hyper-knee-jerk need to dismiss any successful moment this team might enjoy is exhausting to read and makes me sad.
  15. The eighties man! Tanti scores 200 goals over a 5 season stretch and is an after thought when discussing the best scorers of the era.
  16. Flames an absolute juggernaut at present. Obviously they will, but right now, at this minute, I can’t imagine them ever losing a game again! If I was a fan I’d be worried that they’re peaking too early ….
  17. 10 threads should make a thick enough rope to pull me out of this quagmire of analysis and anxiety ......
  18. This can’t be a game that you take the over, surely, the rate at which these two teams score goals. A bold call on your part!
  19. Does Ray ever have another negative word to say about the Canucks? This is going to be interesting …
