  1. Wow. No shortage of big right-handed D potentially on the market/headed to FA in the not too distant future: Jones, Hamilton, Ristolainen, Parayko, etc. With the Shaw hiring, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we pursued one of these big names. I love the idea above of adding Zadorov and Ristolainen to our blueline.
  2. Is Sillinger a projected C too? I was under the impression that he wasn't a pure centre like Beniers or McTavish. edit: same with Raty.
  3. I'm pretty sure that if Detroit doesn't take him then the Sharks will. Yzerman drafted Vasilevskiy. Maybe he drafts the next possible super-goalie in Wallstedt?
  4. Wallstedt won't be available. I'm not high on Johnson. Although Guenther doesn't fill one of our more glaring positional needs, I think he'd still make a fine pick.
  5. I think we'll be pretty lucky here. We need a D man or a centre, and McTavish at 9 will be our last opportunity at either.
  6. I think the odds that McTavish will be available at our pick are VERY high. I don't think either of the big name D will be available - making McTavish our selection. Pettersson Horvat McTavish Hola!!!!!
  7. Top-9 mock: Buffalo - Power Seattle - Beniers Anaheim - Edvinsson New Jersey - Hughes Columbus - Clarke Detroit - Wallstedt San Jose - Eklund LA - Guenther Your Vancouver Canucks - McTavish
  8. That's a tough call to make because Demko should be our guy for around 10 seasons. It's not a need, but if he's available at 9 he may very well be the BPA.
  9. All the starting goalies in the final 4 are 1st round picks (Fleury, Price, Varlamov, Vasi). I'm guessing that he doesn't fall past the Sharks at 7, but obviously I could be dead wrong.
  10. I don't think Wallstedt will be available at our pick.
  11. Interesting take on Shaw/Edvinsson. I would think that a team like Anaheim, Columbus, Detroit or LA will snap him up before we get a chance to. I reeeeally hope I'm wrong though.
  12. Kind of an unnecessary thread and question. Besides, if you really wanted to go there, drafting Petey was basically like selecting first overall, and one could make the argument that drafting Quinn was like being awarded the 3rd overall pick.
  13. My dad once asked him if there were ever days where he hated going to work, and of course, he gave the generic "oh no, I love playing for Vancouver... it's an honour and privilege to be able to play for my hometown team"... Then my dad said something along the lines of "no, come on.... everyone has days where they hate having to go to work. There are days where we have crazy people coming into my workplace and we have to deal with them. Are there certain games you hate having to play?" And Jake replied, "oh, well when we play against big physical teams like the Bruins, those are games that I don't like getting up for." So, there goes that urban legend that so many people wanted to believe, in that he's the kind of player that'll show up in the playoffs... He's a dud. And I know of another "incident" during the training camp where he was basically gifted a roster spot (heard through a personal source). It's too bad, really. What a waste of a career and potential. Guy's in a serious world of trouble.
  14. Me too. As big of a fan as I am of Lysell, you take Edvinsson at 9 and run.
  15. I think the Marner comparisons (which I agree with) have to do with his ability to hold on to the puck while buzzing around the o-zone, and then making an elite passing play. They have similarities in their skating strides and agility too. The comparisons don't stem from Marner's lack of mental toughness. Think Marner's skating/playmaking with Hoglander's puck pursuit. There are some similarities to Kasperi Kapanen's skating style too (the acceleration/quick cuts).
  16. Fair enough, but perhaps there are different avenues we can go down to inject size into our lineup. If we're talking about a potential McTavish selection at pick 9 then fair enough, but otherwise, I don't think we should be making this pick based on size. McTavish might be the only "heavy" player available to us that's slotted to go in the top 3-10. Edvinsson perhaps, but I don't think he'll make it to pick 9. I just think that Lysell brings an excellent combination of things that would make him fit like a glove in our top-6 in the future (plays in your face, right-handed, playmaker, etc.). Even Pettersson doesn't play "soft". And a guy like Boeser is very strong on the puck and has drastically improved his game on the walls, Bo is an Ox, Hoglander is what we all know him as, and Podkolzin... he is a bear/lion/Russian general. Once Petey fills out some more (which he inevitably will), Hoglander and Lysell would be our only players stature-wise that would be "undersized". But would you call Marchand undersized? Technically yes because he's only 5'9, but he's probably been the best playoff performer in the NHL over the last few years. You're right though - it wouldn't hurt to add a little more size. But that can be said for our bottom-6 and our defence too. As far as our top-6 goes, I think there's already a decent balance of size (factoring Podkolzin (even if he starts in the bottom-6). Sure, we don't have a Jordan Greenway or a Tom Wilson, but only two teams in the league do.
  17. Lysell definitely doesn't play soft. Like Hoglander, he's small (albeit he has a different build) but isn't a soft player.
  18. I think CBJ would be smart to go defence in this draft.
  19. I've been very vocal about Lysell, but Guenther would be a good get too. Not too sure about Sillinger though. I don't know enough about him to pass judgement. To me, Lysell's ceiling could be pretty close to a guy like Oliver Bjorkstrand on Columbus. Maybe more of a playmaker than Bjorkstrand (who's probably the better scorer), and more "dog on bone" than Bjorkstrand. Hounds the puck ala the way Costmar did in the World Juniors. His waterbug skating style reminds me of Caufield somewhat. He has so many unique tools that would make him a welcome to our top-6, and would at the very least have zero problem finding a role in our top-9. I'm totally sold on him.
