  1. This pick has Weisbrod written all over it.
  2. For sure. But admittedly, Burkie was able to get them out of that jam and what I first witnessed was what he was able to create. That team in '03 seriously could have won the cup. They had a bit of an arrogant swagger to them, and that was probably where they were at fault the most. I still can't believe they lost to Minnesota... I know the Wild scored a couple of freak goals in that game 7, but they should have finished them off in 5. They got too cocky though. The WCE era was a funny one. They had a very exciting team and they were arguably championship calibre (I really think they were), but it was abrupt and didn't last long. I was a teen in '11 and was so blessed to have watched that team, but for me it all started in the early to mid 2000's.
  3. I'm born in '95 so when I see those jerseys I don't think of Messier or Keenan. I think of Nazzy, Bert, Mo, Jovo, Ruuttu, Sopel, etc. Thinking of the WCE era makes me more nostalgic than Christmas. The '01 gradient is still my favourite. That was my first jersey, and they were Koho - the best jerseys ever produced!
  4. Simple answer is yes for all of them. You can include Heiskanen in that conversation too. Fox... meh, he's not in the same tier, but holy hell, those other 4 represent the future of the NHL. It's up for debate whether Dahlin would be better if he wasn't on Buffalo, but I think that wouldn't outweigh things too drastically.
  5. I'm perfectly happy with his. He's getting steady ice time in the Liiga. The points may or may not come, but it's not a grave concern - they'd just look fancier on the stats sheet.
  6. Yes, because losing Tanev & Stetcher and adding Schmidt & Juolevi/Rafferty is such a MASSIVE downgrade... where do people get this sh** from? And in a sense we didn't really lose Toffoli, as he was only brought in because Boeser was expected to be out for the remainder of the regular season, and even when the play-ins came around, he messed up his ankle and if he wasn't playing, he was barely effective. Boo hoo. And sure, we won't have the best goalie in Markstrom, but the tradeoff is that we have two goalies who are equally capable of carrying a shared workload, and that couldn't be said about Demko at the start of last season. Toronto Vancouver Montreal Winnipeg Edmonton Calgary Ottawa Watch out for Montreal, Bergevin is very polarizing and takes a lot of flack, but I think he's done a terrific job there. I'd almost put them ahead of Vancouver but I don't think they're quite there. Calgary is overrated. Sure they were the flashy team this offseason and added two of this fanbase's favourite players, but even with the Tanev addition, they've regressed on defence. With their patch-up core they already had, an aging Giordano (and sorry, but Tanev too) and their desperate moves this offseason, in the words of Jim Lahey, they're sliding even further down the sh**rope. I think Marky will be good though. Someone has to be at the top and I think it'll be the Leafs. They have a damn good core and have had a pretty understated offseason. Edmonton will get dragged to more than a handful of wins by McDavid and Draisaitl, and I still think that the Jets are a very solid team in their own right. I hope that Scheifele's back to full health. It was sad to see them go down the way they did in the playoffs. I thought they'd be a final four team. Ottawa has a bright future but they're still God awful. I hope everyone's ready to fully embrace this as much as I am. A CANADIAN division?! That's nuts!! Super stoked.
  7. Looks so direct and assertive out there. Reminds me so much of Arvidsson, and a little bit like Brad Marchand (minus the douchebaggery). Also, how about his teammate at the moment, Moritz Seider... He has 5 points in 5 games with Rogle. He's the guy I really wanted at 10, and even if Detroit didn't take him, I'm willing to put down money that Holland would have snatched him up for the Oilers, and we'd have ended up with Broberg. Silver lining is... we won't have to see Seider suit up for Edmonton, thank f***.
  8. Is Donald Brashear's tenure as a Canuck understated? I mean, he played 6 seasons with us but I never hear him mentioned around Nuck Nation - other than the McSorley incident...

Yes I believe so.  Despite being a better player and fighter than Gino Odjick, Odjick gets far more fanfare from the locals due to his association with Pavel Bure and 1994.  Odjick also stuck up for his teammates far more while Brashear didn’t always fulfill his role (I.e. he started to eventually see himself as being more of a player than a fighter).

In a lot of ways, Brashear was like the Alex Mogilny of enforcers in Vancouver, in that Mogilny was overshadowed by the more popular Bure.

Gino's was well earned.  He was heart and soul Canuck and was involved in a lot of family/community events when he was here.  (I remember we tried dunking him in the dunk tank at the family carnival once).

It also ties in to "when"....1994 was HUGE as far as team identity and fan following go.  The entire team was "beloved" in this city.

Then Messier/Keenan arrived on the scene and killed it...poor Brashear was linked in with that forgotten nightmare period.

Back then his child went to school with my cousin's daughter...he said Donald was super nice and very involved.

@CanucksCountry is super skilled at finding jerseys, maybe he can help you out! if its not too much trouble. otherwise I recommend posting in the jersey thread and places people talk about hockey jerseys.

  10. That 2000's Gradient Orca is still my favourite today. Sue me...
  11. True. And that's not to say that we are bare of prospects - as we have guys like Woo, Rathbone, Lind, Hoglander, etc. (they're just not U20 (or they turn 20 before/during the tournament - like Hoglander, for example). Not like there's any issue with that... only that we don't get to see as many of our prospects play in the WJC's.
  12. Hoglander and Utunen aren't eligible. Podkolzin, Zlodeyev and Costmar are likely the only prospects we'll have a chance of seeing.
  13. Sounds like Crazy P is Calgary bound...

He's that guy at Rogers Arena who goes from section to section throughout the game firing the crowd up. He screams at the top of his lungs, and has a drum and earplugs. Actually pretty fun going to the games with him there - he has his niche and most of the crowd seems to be appreciative of him.

  14. Sometimes you gotta wonder how a guy like this falls to the 6th round... I'm not suggesting he's a slam-dunk or anything like that, but there's some serious upside here and to say he's on the right track would be an understatement.
  15. Oh wow... once upon a time ago I loved this guy when he was a prospect. I remember when he was Tampa's 6th Dman on their run to the cup finals back in '15, and as a lefty, he'd play the right side. Good outlet pass and smooth skater. I'm a little jealous tbh, and I wish we brought him in as a depth option for us. However, he definitely lacks some of the meat and potatoes that we'd be missing on the back end.
  16. I think they had an outstanding draft too. Ray Shero who?
  17. Well I don't know about anything under 8 mil, but luckily for the Canucks, they have the advantage of being able to tailor these contracts to work against the economic effects due to COVID - which a team like the Leafs doesn't have the luxury of having (as they've already signed their big dogs to albatross contracts). There are people on here who would be much more knowledgable about the specifics, but you get the gist...
  18. 4 goals in 7 games - in the K's version of the AHL ain't too shabby for an 18-year old...
