Maybe, maybe not.....but even If they did, they didn't make him sign Eriksson. -

I agree with EVERYTHING you said. But I probably shouldn't have hijacked what should be a Utica thread, with continual comments about the terrible Eriksson signing by Benning. -

I disagree, it was never a good deal. The Canucks (just like many other teams over the years) over paid, both on term and money because it was July 1st. He was coming off a career year at 31 and about to turn 32 when the team should have been trying to get younger. He was signed for 6 years which would have put him well past his prime even IF he had been performing as expected. He was never a great skater and the league is only getting faster and harder for him to keep up.....and although scoring on his own net would have been upsetting for him, if it put him off so much as to screw up his season and the ones following it, then his mental toughness should have been taken into consideration when he signed his contract. Signing LE and then starting a complete rebuild less than a year later makes no sense. -

No I don't, but he's the guy making the trades, picks and signings. The FACT that he made that terrible LE signing when the Sedin's were already past their primes and he talked about getting younger was a bit contradictory. Then the following year he admits to a full on rebuild. It might not have been his decision alone, but there was a distinct lack of forethought.....and he's the one who is in charge of roster decisions. -

I'll assume that your math is correct in regards to how many draft picks they're down. But even if it's only one pick that they're down, you'd still think that because scouting is Benning's specialty and he's proven that he's more than capable of finding good players in the draft, that he'd give himself every opportunity to increase his picks and assets and not decrease them. I will also say that I don't think that Benning did himself any favors by wasting a year or two trying to figure out if they should try and retool or rebuild. The AWFUL Eriksson signing is proof of that. -
February onward = when the games get better, more intense, more entertaining, mean more, and the players REALLY earn their pay and the cream rises to the top. Yup I see Zack being that kind of February onward kind of player.

Allow a collective group to speak for myself? Huh? I was speaking for myself.....but the FACT that the fans last night showed (with their ovations after the Canucks stood up for each other) just proved I wasn't alone in thinking that way. Being inconsistent and having two sets of rules just because you wear a Canucks jersey are two VERY different things. - To answer your question, NO I don't think it's dangerous to run OUR guys from behind.....because I think it's dangerous to run ANY guys from behind, regardless of what jersey they wear. If you watch any other hockey games aside from just Canucks games, you would know that this happens to all of the teams during any given game. - Inconsistent refereeing also benefited the Canucks last night, because we could have been given two different third man in penalties.....but I guess because that benefited the Canucks, that that isn't part of your conspiracy theory eh? Sorry, but I'll NEVER believe this conspiracy theory of yours.

Talk about beating a dead horse. Sorry, pretty sure the league has better things to do and doesn't have it out for the Canucks. Did Martel give Stetcher a shot to the head, yes.....but not every shot to the head should be suspendable. In last nights game, the Canucks were actually lucky in some respects, because both Hutton and Gudbranson could have been given third man in penalties and kicked out of the game. This would have left us with only 3 defensemen for almost half of the game after Stetcher got hurt. Gudbranson could also have been given AT LEAST a minor for throwing a couple of punches at guys in scrums, especially one haymaking uppercut in particular. Rather than whining and crying about conspiracy theories and the league having it in for the Canucks, I'd prefer to think about how entertaining of a game it was because of everything that went on, ESPECIALLY how the Canucks stood up for each other and didn't turn the other cheek when that hasn't always been the case - especially in recent years.....and you could tell by the reaction of the fans, that I'm not the only one who was happy the way the Canucks responded.

Whining about an organization is a little different than whining about an entire league.....but I think I get your point. -

Talk about a total over reaction to a couple of games. You act as if this is the Federal League from Slap Shot. It's the BEST developmental league in the world for professional players. Obviously nobody wants to see anyone get hurt, but It's still hockey and it's going to happen. It's played at a super fast pace, by big grown men and things get emotional on the ice for a variety of reasons. But whining and crying to the league because those big bad men on the other team aren't being very nice to our players, isn't going to help. And it won't get any easier for some of these guys once they get to the NHL either. -

Relax. It's not an out of control league at all. It's the best developmental league in the world to prepare for the NHL. And although the game has changed, it's still hockey and it's still a tough and physical sport that will pick out the weak. And if you can't hack it in the A, then you're definitely not going to be able to hack it in the NHL, where the scouting reports will tell each player who and how they can target each player to get them off their game. You can't not send your prospects there because you're scared that they'll be picked on and harassed, as that's part of dealing with being a professional hockey player is. And if it's that much of an issue, then that's up to the Canucks to find guys who will help shelter and protect them. Crying to the league about your players and franchise getting picked on, will get you just as bad of a rep, as it would if the other teams know that you won't stick up for yourself. Pretty sure that the guys running the league could care less about who's farm team is where as far as anyone getting special treatment goes. I'm thinking that if Arseneau weren't injured and if they had someone a little tougher than Woods around (who I don't even think dressed last night), that this wouldn't be as much of an issue. -

I know that I'm probably in the minority, but hockey in the 80's and 90's was exciting hockey compared to todays hockey. Lots of goals, hits, intensity, fights and rivalries on pretty much a nightly basis. Which is pretty much the exact opposite of todays hockey in most leagues...including in juniors, the minor leagues and the NHL. Without looking it up, it does seem like goals are up a bit this year, but I think that has more to do with making the goalie gear smaller. I understand the pussification (for lack of a better word) of the game today, but I don't think it makes for more exciting hockey. It seems that everyone that watched the game last night seemed to enjoy it, and I think at least some of that had to do with the type of game it was = chippy, nasty and not todays norm. Farnham has always been a bit of a puke, but at least he drops the gloves and faces the consequences of his actions on the ice. Thompson might be a dirty player, but he averages less than 4 fights a year, so I wouldn't really call him a fighter. It's not like he's one of the Gallant brothers or anything.....but I understand what you're saying and I always appreciate your views on the Comets and their games. -

Adams was a college player, where as MacEwen wasn't and he was also a centre up until he turned pro. And everyone has a different idea of playing a power game I guess. Because Adams definitely didn't have a complete power game and was always considered more of a skill player than anything else. Yes he went to the net and the dirty areas to score goals, but although he was tall, he was very slightly built and he rarely hit anyone, never fought and wasn't known for his physical play.....which to me is what a true power game includes. Where as MacEwen IS known for his physical play... -
I didn't see the game, but I love hearing that MacEwen was throwing his weight around and scored a goal.....and if nobody challenged him after one of those hits, then I guess Baddock wasn't doing his job again last night.

There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism and I personally want to hear not only a players strengths but also their weaknesses. -

Are you talking about Greg C. Adams or Greg "Gus" Adams? I'm assuming that you're talking about the latter, however that is not a very good comparison as they are not even close to being the same type of player. -
He actually only had one fight in the Youngstars and it was the one you posted.....if you check out hockeyfights.com, they have his fight history and videos of 4 of his 5 career scraps..
-
Wow, pick and choose much? He has 5 career scraps (4 of which there's video of) and you predictably only find the one scrap where he'd probably be given the decision. However, the video you did post is also why I said "most of them".....but how come you didn't post the other 3 where he lost two of them and drew in the other? My point was that you called him one heck of a scrapper and being at best 1-2-1 doesn't make anyone a heck of a scrapper, especially with that miniscule resume.

Sometimes you just are what you are, and I think that's the case with those four. Gaunce and Boucher are at least young enough to still get better and maybe change their career paths. But Archibald and Biega aren't going to develop into anything more than what they are = fringe NHL'ers and good AHL'ers.....and I have to think that that's what all four will ever be. And there's nothing wrong with that, as every team needs good depth guys to call up and fill a temporary role. -
Pretty sure you have the wrong guy (maybe you were thinking of Laplante who is a good scrapper for his size), as Carcone has only been in 5 fights, and hasn't exactly shown too much in most of them.

I was just trying to say, that just because you're a top prospect within the organization, shouldn't entitle ANYONE to be brought up without earning it. It sends a bad message to the whole organization. Dahlen was just the name that was mentioned by another poster as to who he'd like to see brought up, and I disagreed because I think that's something that should be earned and Dahlen hasn't earned it. It could have been anyone and I'd still feel the same way. In saying that, I'm not sure you can compare father to son, especially when that son is a millennial. ;-) -

Right. Because a guy who is having a hard time adjusting and isn't able or ready to be a consistent AHL player, is going to get his confidence boosted by playing in the NHL? That's logical? There's been MANY more guys have their confidence killed by playing in the NHL and being overwhelmed because they're not ready to play at that level, than there are guys who miraculously get a confidence boost by playing in a league that they're not ready for. They already know where he's at and he needs to improve in every phase of the game.....and giving prospects a sense of entitlement and playing favorites isn't going to help them generate the winning environment they need to establish either. -

Bring up Dahlen? So much for playing well enough and actually earning your chance I guess? Because from what I've seen, read and heard, there are other players more deserving of a recall than what Dahlen is.....and just because he might be one of their better prospects, doesn't mean he's entitled to a shot without deserving one. -
Looking forward to seeing this guy in a Nucks uniform at some point in the future. He looks like a bit of a throw back player and I think he has the kind of skill set in a package that they haven't had on the team in a long time.

You say that you're not comparing a teenage Quinn Hughes to a grown man in Sidney Crosby, yet that's EXACTLY what you were doing when you tried to compare him to Conor McGregor.....which is a terrible comparison for several different reasons. Plus McGregor is NOT 20lbs lighter. The weight he weighs in at for a fight isn't even close to what he weighs when you see him during a fight or what he walks around at. When you see him for a 155lbs fight, he's usually weighing at least 170-175lbs. Hockey players generally have very big legs, so I'm sure that Hughes is no different. So in saying that, most of his musculature (as you put it) is in his lower half and he's going to need some muscle to his upper body, which I'm sure he will.
