  1. Was wondering when he was going to call it. I remember wanting him or Malhotra for 3C during FA 2010. Great career, especially for a guy of his level.
  2. Loui definitely needs to go. I'd like one of Sutter or Tanev to be gone with this too. Out with the old, in with the new!!
  3. Awesome! Those worried about cap space — Don't fret, I'm sure management has something in place; they wouldn't do this otherwise. ... Right?
  4. Buffalo picking up a young RHD... Getting closer to a Risto move?
  5. Don't believe anything you see on a screen, kids.
  6. Leafs having only Rielly signed for after this coming season I'm sure will be a factor for them. It's all moot though if he doesn't want to re-sign with them in the first place.
  7. It was sounding like the wanted to be rid of Boedker's contract, so maybe they could work some out around that.
  8. Me neither. Good to see though! I still can't believe Gurriel Jr's turnaround. I still have a helluva time trying to tell Jansen and Sogard apart AB, with the headgear on.
  9. Heh, I was just looking for clarification on this in the Marner offer sheet thread.
  10. Awesome. Great deal for a guy that really seems to enjoy himself here, and if he can take another step this season even better.
  11. Regarding the Horton thing — Does he stay on LTIR throughout the off-season (thus giving the Leafs their relief) or does he have to be moved back to it at the start of the(/every) season again? I thought I remembered us having to work around a logistical issue with this a few years ago: a player that was starting the season injured, but LTIR didn't start until the regular season started and we had to have a replacement technically in the AHL until the injured player was placed on LTIR and his replacement brought up, to stay compliant. I'm pondering that in a similar situation, the Leafs wouldn't be able to effectively utilize Horton's LTIR relief on Marner until the season starts and that overage allowance disappears. Where the cap nerds at? I'm sure I remember a discussion around this sort of thing but it's been a while. Nobody seems to have mentioned this yet, so I'm expecting to be mistaken.
  12. Teams can exceed the limit by 10% in the off-season, but must be compliant again for the season. So teams can be at what then, pretty close to 90M? Vegas was right up against it before they made some recent moves. They can match but they'll have to move out I think just over a Nylander amount in cap before opening night.
  13. Isles would be great. I like the Isles as a team and Marner as a player, but it just feels dirty liking a Leaf. Great drama — Tavares vs. Marner? — could ensue. Fun story for the league to prop up. Edit: Not that I'm actually expecting the Leafs to fail to match, I guess. Dang.
  14. Pleeeease. If nothing more than to have something in the news. Watching the Leafs scramble to match it would be some great entertainment.
  15. Crazier trades have happened; It's more about avoiding a future cap crunch and retaining the freedom to add who we want, when we want (unlike the Leafs, Knights, Lightning). Signing Boeser + Goldy + Lievo will put us pretty close to the limit, and nobody can seem to agree on what LE's trade value is — the two outlooks being either nil or negative (like all truths, it's probably somewhere in the middle.) Tanev in that trade is to offset any potential negative value Eriksson holds, while also helping us begin opening space for when EP and QH get pay raises in two years (Sutter being traded before his contract is up will be part of that too). Plus, we can talk about moving Tanev at the deadline/later in the year all we want, but I feel there's just too much injury risk with that plan, and I'm not predicting his value rises between now and then. Goldy is like a lotto ticket — maybe he pans out, but more likely, probably doesn't. If I'm JB, seeing what's going on with these contracts around the league, my goal is to be rid of LE's contract 100%, no retention. I disagree with those comparing his situation to Marleau costing the Leafs a 1st, but I do think it will cost us, and I'm not giving up Virtanen or another young player over an aging, injury-prone player. If you put that much stock into Tanev's worth, all the power to you. I'm looking at this as a way to kill to birds with one stone. Wouldn't hurt to try.
  16. Sign a cheap vet (Girardi? McQuaid?) to rotate in and out on the bottom pair? Could be another stabilizing veteran presence to help the kids for a low cost.
  17. I'm sure there's infinite problems with this (I hate proposals), but every day that passes I want Eriksson's contract gone more and more. To OTT Eriksson Tanev @ 50% Goldobin Sautner To VAN Conditional OTT 2021 2nd Round Pick (Converts into 4th Rounder if Tanev does not re-sign) Ottawa gets to add D depth on both sides + a bit of a mystery player in Goldy + an Eriksson with a fresh start (and salary below cap hit) for a pick in a round for which the have two others already, or less in the event that Tanev does not stay with the team. Vancouver gets rid of the Eriksson conundrum and Tanev, who most want traded to free up capspace. I like Sautner, but he is expendable. Same goes for Goldy at this point. Really, the return itself isn't as important as regaining the ability to keep building our team without worrying too much about a cap crunch.
  18. Ah yes, the immortal Mr. I'll-Score-One-Beautiful-NHL-Goal-And-Call-It-A-Career himself.
  19. Even assuming he plays well up until the ED, I would be okay with this. I have good feelings about our D prospects and agree — by the time the ED rolls around if he's the odd man out, that's fine by me. This is a great deal for us. Helps us now without the risk of being completely anchored as dead weight later.
  20. I was gonna say: they only have 5 NHL roster D signed. Maybe Tanev @ 50% + a Goldobin or pick or other sweetener makes them think about trading him within the division (while they need to clear cap, Tanev @ 50% is pretty good value for a position they need to fill). Maybe send Biega too; he's been great as our 7D but we've got plenty of youth to get into some games so he's becoming more expendable, and he'll be cheap. That said, I think if Tanev gets traded he goes east.
