  1. My 12th grade year in highscool there was an Astronomy course that counted as a science 12 credit, so I jumped on it (it was the only year they ended up offering it ). Once we went up to the roof in the middle of the day () with a telescope and looked at the moon; I remember it certainly was bright. Although the weather was fighting us a bit. I think the exercise was more about learning how to use the telescope vs. anything we could try to see in the middle of the day. It was a while ago now, memory's a bit fuzzy.
  2. Trade him to a cap floor team with some retention for even just a late pick. Anything but Lucic.
  3. Exactly this - but I think he definitely bounces back and this contract will be great for the Isles.
  4. I like it. I try to follow this stuff in the news as much as I have time for. From the first "photograph" of a black hole earlier this year to this mass in the moon thing, it's been fun lately. Unfortunately however, I haven't had much time lately to look into anything not making major headlines lately. I used one of these a couple years ago. Went to a small park near my place with my girl in the middle of the night and laid out a blanket and just poked around the sky for a while. Found a bunch of different constellations and names of a few different stars; It was really fun (and she quite dug it as a date idea — heads up fellas). Would definitely recommend giving it a try. One day when I have more time and live in a place maybe less light polluted I would really love to get a telescope and get into actual stargazing — instead of cheating off an iPhone app.
  5. I mean, that is pretty reflective of Van. Agree 100%. I don't know who's idea it was to try to "modernize" the stick-in-rink, but they should be fired; it was terrible the first time they did it and it's terrible now. Just use the bloody original, like a normal team. How such an organization can make such blunders like this is baffling to me. I love this team with all my heart, but... Their design department seriously needs an intervention of some kind.
  6. I've thought about that too, and yeah, it must be strange and a little deflating knowing you were kind of just along for the ride. He seems like a pretty well grounded guy though, so I'm sure he's just soaking in the good stuff not letting that bother him too much. I would imagine it being an exciting experience nonetheless, just being around that group. Happy for Pat Maroon too. Winning the cup with your hometown team is a dream for any hockey kid. Total 180 for him, from the disaster that is the Oilers (and Devils, I guess) to... That. Also seems like a pretty good guy from the interviews I've seen.
  7. So. Happy. Happy for Del Zotto. Happy for Bouwmeester even; always nice to see someone leave Calgary and win. Also nice to see a team with 0 prior Stanley Cups become all-new champs. It is great for the league.
  8. Maybe suspension worthy if you don't take into account intent. Looked to me like he made the effort to get him in the chest, and just missed up high. I probably wouldn't give him a playoff game for that, considering lack of history as well.
  9. To be fair, NFL revenue is like four times that of the NHL. The NBA is a different story (makes about 25-30% more in revenue?), which I don't know enough about to comment on. Maybe different sponsorship structures?
  10. Never on this site have I found a two-page thread that was such a wild ride. I was just hoping it was true.
  11. Just finished The Gargoyle, by Andrew Davidson. Was pretty good for a first novel; would be curious to ready a second one by the guy if he ever puts one out (he's even Canadian, to Boot). It livened me up enough to finally tackle The Divine Comedy next (it played a big part in The Gargoyle).
  12. Honestly, I don't disagree. I'm just tired of the government (every government) not spending enough on the things I value (imo education being one of the most criminally underfunded relative to other spending). But, this all ties into much more complex views I have about governmental institutions needing massive overhauls to better acclimate to an ever-changing world, and especially a shift in attitude regarding what it even means to be a public servant anymore (all of which will in all likelihood never occur). But I digress — that's a rabbit hole best left for another discussion. If it makes you feel any better, my close second choice was Erin O'Toole. To be clear, I am certainly not a "socialist welfare state" supporter; wouldn't vote Bernie or the likes if I could.
  13. I voted for Michael Chong... At least he had a climate plan. Hey Justin! $16B is a lot of money. How about flowing some my way so I can keep attending school and pay my rent/not starve? kthxbye
  14. I stopped taking French after the 8th grade (like an idiot). Here we are years later, and I've gone the Duolingo route. Can't speak it very well but my reading/writing aspects of it are much improved. Also did some Dutch for a while, and a little Spanish.
  15. Not interested in Benn at all. Overrated, declining, counter-productively expensive, doesn't fit in with the timeline, seems like a knob... Maybe if they just take Eriksson and retain a ton on Benn... But that'll obviously never happen. I'm tired of seeing once good/great players coming here just to suck. Maybe he could reignite something here with Pettersson, but I'd rather keep building the team the way we have been and have a young player in that spot for a long time than a few seasons of a bloated Jamie (Has-)Benn.
  16. Not trading Cap. This team is his, and he does everything the right way. He's going nowhere until he gets a chance to win here.
  17. I think they've got time for one more "placeholder" coach until the Oil can climb out of the hole they're in and get back to being competitive. Another year of blame laid on the figurehead while he turns over that roster.
  18. That sounds exactly like something he would do. Connor (the kid) is the same way; happy to talk to anyone and can nail off the cuff with the best of 'em. Unfortunately for us he was our singer (he was a good singer too, but I've never met another drummer like him).
  19. I can't believe what I'm reading in this thread. One of my best friends is the son of the drummer from SK. Played in a band with him for a few years before we split and went in different directions, musically. We both live in the lower mainland now and he's still going all over the place playing — I "retired" and went back to school. We covered "Girl With A Gun" (can find the original on youtube) at a show once with his dad in attendance. It was one of the funnest/funniest times I ever had playing a gig. Edit: To say at least something that's on topic, I'm liking both the Isles and Canes for the Conference Finals; I guess it looks like Carolina is gonna be the one and I'm pretty okay with that. I don't really care too much past this point who wins the cup (just not Boston or Vegas), but I gotta admit it'd be pretty funny to see a bunch of Jerks win it just to stick it to people that take their fun too seriously.
  20. Well earned. Gave 100% every game, was sad to see him go when he was traded.
