I don't even care if it's KC and the Borioles., it's just nice to see this team get some bloody runs consistently. -
Whoops, you're right. Shows what I know.

I'm so excited for this kid. What a steal. I think he could be good enough to make the team out of camp; but I also agree with the notion that it would likely be best to keep him in Sweden another year and see him develop with more ice time. He hasn't necessarily put up the numbers but there's clearly skill there.

[Buyout] Rangers buy out Kevin Shattenkirk
Ralph. replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wow, for the 2020-21 season his buyout hit is gonna be $6,083,333 ($1,483,333 in 2019-20, and $1,433,333 in 2021-23), according to CF. That's pretty brutal. Wonder how they'll manage that one. -

Oh weird, he even hit a single. The Toronto Star () was reporting, "Smoak sits as trade deadline nears..." which I must have min-interpreted. Derp. -

Bo Bichette — 1st MLB homer! -
This. I used to be with Telus on a brutal deal ($112/month after taxes, unlimited local calling, unlimited txt messaging, and like 4GB data — it was an old contract that I should have updated much sooner) and switched to Freedom about a year ago (Big Gig plan — unlimited nationwide calling, unlimited txt, total of 13GB data) for... $61.60 all in. Literally the only downside is my service cuts out on my way in/out of work (ironically in a TELUS building), surrounded by concrete. The features are way better, and Freedom is still trending up in terms of coverage as their network expands. I consider my deal to be way more value for the dollar than any of the big three will offer (although, it seems they're starting to try to compete more so it might be worth shopping around now).

The Nat's always a blast! I've been to two this season (1-1). Hoping to make it to one more before the end of the season. -

Slightly off-topic: Anyone ever read Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins? It's a fantastic book that I'd recommend to most of you those who have posted in this thread. -

Sweet, definitely going to tune into the first half of the game at least. -
IMO elite goalies who have shown consistency for 3-4+ years (think Carey Price, Henrik Lundqvist in their primes) should get max $8-10 for 4-5 years in the current cap climate. They earn the dollars, but the volatility of the position should limit the term. Signing them for longer is asking for trouble.

So true. My lady does editing for medical documents, and while some of the doctors — no MDs, just BMedScs — walk around like they're gods, they still lack basic grammar/spelling skills. These aren't occasional mistakes; their papers are riddled with errors akin to a a 9th grade level, maybe even lower. Anyways, I think the LTIR structure should be redesigned in the next CBA. This crap should be unacceptable.

Has the Western World Lost Moderate/Centrist Politics?

That's what I thought the + was for, so they didn't have to have an acronym that took up an entire line. Guess I'm uninformed. -
It's pretty complicated. I just went to CapFriendly (as it seems everyone uses it now) to see what they had for rules on LTIR stuff, and found this. I recommend skimming through it; it helped me understand better for sure. I had the impression for some reason that when a player goes onto LTIR, basically the deal was the team could replace him with a player of up to the same AAV. I didn't realize all the stuff about the salary pool; thought it was more of a one-player-down-one-player-up sort of thing. Looking at the Training-Camp equation stuff, it looks like they might not have to do this whole waiting until the first day of the season to sign him thing, too? It doesn't say whether two players are supposed to be factored into the ACSL, but assuming they are, I've got the Leaf's ACSL today at: ACSL = Team Cap Hit - LTIR Player's Cap Hit ACSL = 83, 659, 699 - 10, 550, 000 (Horton + Clarkson) ACSL = $73, 109, 699 Per that link: "The ACSL will always be less than or (in the optimal scenario) equal to the league upper limit (this season, $81.5M). The closer the ACSL is to the league upper limit, the greater the team will be able to exceed the upper limit." And so: 81, 500, 000 - 73, 109, 699 = $8, 390, 301 More from CF: "Once the team exceeds their ACSL, they start to use their relief pools. They can exceed the upper limit until they have exhausted the necessary relief pools. A rough estimation is as follows: Exceed value = ACSL + salary relief pool - league upper limit" Exceed Value = 73, 109, 699 + 10, 550, 000 - 81, 500, 000 Exceed Value = $2, 159, 699 What I gather is that the Leafs can theoretically sign Marner to an AAV of say $10, 550, 000 (their entire relief pool), and still have that $8, 390, 301 to spend this season. However that would be stupid af, as once Horton + Clarkson contracts expire that relief is gone and they must clear space to get below the regular limit (that's a helluva lot of space to clear). What I imagine they would rather do is continue to clear out ACSL space (of which they have $8, 390, 301) until they have enough to fit him under legitimately (probably another $3.5M+ considering what he's asking for), and then they won't have to trade him/Matthews/Tavares/Nylander and keep their insanely top-heavy lineup in tact after the coming season. That or trade for another dead-weight LTIR contract. * I'm no capologist so maybe I'm way off base here. I'll let the forum lawyers debate further if they want. Clarifications from those who know their CBA stuff is welcome.

[Signing] Predators re-sign Colton Sissons
Ralph. replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wow. Colton was my favourite Rockets player when I was living in Kelowna 8 years ago. Glad to see him finding some NHL success — a seven-year contract?! Intriguing way to manage your roster, Poile-o. Probably worth it for a player like him at that hit. Weird comparable: Jannik Hansen, in 2011 (age 25), signed a 3-year contract, then a four-year extension after. Combined, this would have looked like a 7-year, approx. $2.01M AAV. This took him until his last year in SJ (2017-18) before retirement. I was surprised when he retired, as his performance did not really seem to decline. (Looking it up now, he played one more season in the KHL before retiring altogether, citing "physical inability.") Now in 2019, Sissons is 25 on a deal of the same length, and $2.85M AAV. Considering the cap changes and the versatility of Sissons vs. Hansen, this should be a pretty great deal through and through, barring any major injury problems or brutal, rapid decline in the later years.
