  1. I didn't notice Torts stifling defensive play and shot blocking on the power play,I just saw the Sedins,Kesler and Burrows along with Edler and Salo 2.0 play the Umbrella like they always have. They looked older and slower.A devastating PP percentage would have meant playoffs.
  2. If that's the case the GM is a done deal and has told Trevor his vision doesn't include Torts but doesn't want to have to face him .
  3. There is definitely pressure to pick Virtanen.Theres some added value of getting a player who has always been a fan of the team.IE probably will never leave, possibly play for less and play with more heart and pride.Virtanen has put the pressure on Van by playing himself into conversation at 6-10.
  4. IMO,You want warriors. The player with an edge. The player that in a tight playoff game plays the most minutes, and punishes the opposition. The player that as the battles of seven game series go on and players begin to wilt are relentless and dependable. When you find these players that can play on the top two lines it forces the other team to play their fourth line to match them physically. Those are the players you build around and win with.If you are playing the Sedins against the Brown line and he keeps hammering them with hits and they are getting injured what do you do as a coach?Kassian?Maybe put the fourth line out to go for a rip around the ice quickly and most likely become shorthanded?Dont underestimate edge and size and grit that can play top minutes as it is how you win this game.Trevor Linden used to lead the way in the playoffs not only by chipping in a goal, but by throwing three Solid forecheck hits every shift all game.
  5. I think Trevor linden has to protect himself from this Virtanen problem somehow. The kid keeps rising his stock and putting Vancouver in a bad way that the #6 is so important to get a home run and it may happen but now Virtanen is closing the gap.If Virtanen pans out that will haunt Van for a long time.Kesler to Anaheim has to be looking like a serious consideration .
  6. Lots of posters are trying to justify taking a smaller skill player because other successful teams have drafted these type and had success. Those teams have core players that are huge,IE San Jose,Anaheim and LA.Its true you can draft high skill to complement a big team and in turn a big physical team allows skill guys room to flourish. The Canucks aren't a big strong team, and that work needs to be done starting now.Once the new core is big and Physical then smaller high skill players will be needed and welcome.
  7. IMO 1.Ekblad 2.Bennet 3. Reinhart 4.Ritchie 5.Dal colle Then the discussion will take place about Draisatl ,Perlini but the Canucks can't pass on Virtanen. Then the argument will begin lol. Vancouver connection Canuck fan Size/ grit/speed boxes checked That'll tip the scales
  8. Just for the sake of argument.if the Canucks traded Kesler for Anaheims two picks and Edler for Detroits pick, they could theoretically draft all three. If they swung a deal for a lower asset to take Erhoffs contract and were able to sign Callahan with their cap space they wouldnt lose much either.Would make for a heavy duty top nine.Next year they could add the high skilled number one centre and over the next couple years transfer the older defense assets to younger ones.
  9. If Kesler and Edler go at the draft, the Canucks could add Ritchie,Virtanen and Tuch and in one day become pretty stout up front. If they finish low in 2015 make a big push for a potential superstar #1 centre to add to that and the forward lines are pretty much rebuilt.
  10. People keep talking about Ritchie using his size to dominate juniors, but something has to also be said about the fact he can move fast enough at that size to have the success he does.
  11. You build a team of physical giants that can play and then sneak in a super skilled smaller fast guy here and there.
  12. No trade clauses should be void in years the team misses the playoffs. Then at least you aren't stuck with under performing players that can't be moved and just keep firing the staff until something works.
  13. I doubt he'll be back but two things about him.Whenever he is asked a legitimate hockey question he gives great and passionate responses. He only gets in trouble when people goad him.Secondly you'd be surprised at the stories I've heard from around BC from fans that he's sat and talked to about hockey and stopped and parked his car to sign autographs and talk all things hockey no matter how much time it took .
  14. We have been up against big physical teams,we have needed more size in our top six, this is fact.In tight low scoring playoff hockey the physical players thrive. They hit, wear down, intimidate, lean on and absorb the grind better.Your slight build skill players are at risk of injury. It is rare to have top six players that can provide a prescence like this and play a ton. There are a few Heavy Duty wingers in this draft and I think Van should answer the question about"how do we get a player like that noone will trade us one?"by trying to aquire two of them through our pick and trade.Once you build a big strong team you can then by all means draft an Uber skilled wunderkid to freewheel amongst the giants creating room for him to shine.
  15. Aquire Ottawas pick for Kesler from Anaheim and come away with two of Ritchie/Virtanen/Tuch.we have been wanting to get a big top six forever so let's stick to our plan.Chances are we don't snap back in a single summer and can aquire a high scoring centreman in next years draft.Bo the future leader would look good surrounded by 500lbs of winger.
  16. So no rebuild and keep chasing the dream with the Sedins ?This won't end well I'm thinking.
  17. Gillis traded his prized asset for the future so if he tries to life support this team with assets instead of cap space then he should be gone.If he wants to convert older assets to try and mould a team in his vision from scratch then fine because it is pretty clear he can't aquire the players he covets through trade.
  18. I'd like to see them go after Ottawas pick from Anaheim and Detroits first with Edler and Kesler. Then draft 3 of those big wingers in the top 15 or so.Next year we either bounce back, or finish low and if so they can add that top notch centre to finish off the future top nine.
  19. That should have been jumped on ,by the time Van is rebuilt Kesler will be in his twilight.
  20. Looking like they will probably fall just short of playoff spot but still end up with a four year project pick.
  21. I'm hoping that Gillis picks twice in the top 15 and we get one of Perlini/Richie/Virtanen and take Tuch with the other one.Two big wingers in the can, size addressed and if things go as they seem to be heading add a cornerstone offensive player to that next year. That would provide a Mix that could have success in our division down the road.
  22. If you are clearly going to get beat your not going to move your skate in a competitive game.
