  1. Lol! A sport is a sport and if you take it seriously then it sometimes feels like going to battle. Your teammates are your brothers. You need to be able to rely on them to have your back, or stand up for you when you get knocked down. It's like a stab in the back when you get knocked down and your teammates skate away.
  2. Yes, more than likely yes. Don't know the guy personally and personality plays a key role, but yes. Benn does exude a lot of the qualities that inspire followers. Scoring, hitting within reason, getting emotionally involved when the time is right, making a hit or play to inspire or turn a game around. Not just by scoring a goal. But all that said, a guy like Schenn could also make a good captain because he seems like the type of guy who can inspire and lead even though he doesn't put up points. So it's a difficult question and that's why different players with different skills can still be good captains if they have that factor. Bo just doesn't have it. Not his fault. He is a good player, he just doesn't inspire.
  3. Not nobody saw... One person saw. And you didn't answer the question. Do you think Garland would have done nothing if Bo got decked. What if it was Petey or Hughes instead of Garland...think about it. What if Petey or Huggy had taken a straight to the face? Would you still be totally fine with Bo standing there and having a less than emotional chat with the ref? I can't see anyone on CDC saying they would be fine with it .. So if you don't like that thought, then consider how garland feels. If your not a star then your not important to your teammate and your captain. That's how sports work, that's the subconscious part that Horvat doesn't get
  4. Seriously? I've said it so many times I honestly don't want to keep going over it. There are lots of different ways to lead, in life and in hockey... But if you are asking what makes a strong leader? It's very simple, A strong leader has strong followers. That's it. Pure and simple. If there's no one following you, then you aren't a strong leader. Now think back to all the good years when the team was strong, when the teams was close, was a family, it wasn't just coincidence. There were always strong leaders at the helm. I have not seen any real example in the last 5 years that prove to me that Bo is leading and that the team is following. Bo does not do whatever it takes, and if you're going to wear the C you need to have a whatever it takes attitude sometimes, not all the time, but sometimes. He just doesn't have it.
  5. Yes, and given the state of this team, trying to secure the 2 points is what matters right now? Honestly who cares about the two points. We're not making the playoffs. The game ended with absolutely nothing to build off of. If Horvat had actually done something and taken a penalty, I guarantee that would have been something the TEAM could have built off of and the dressing room probably wouldn't have been as quiet after the game. I'm just saying, people feel the culture is stale and the team has no push back, yet people automatically come to Horvats defense when he doesn't have push back and doesn't do anything to lead the change.
  6. I think your missing the point. It doesn't matter who was on the ice .. Actually let me ask you this... If the roles were reversed and Horvat was the one that got decked, do you think Garland would have watched it happen and the stood there? Honestly I believe he would have gotten right in there. That's what's missing. If your captain isn't going to drag the team into the fight, then the team will never truly fight. And yes, Schenn should be captain for 1-2 years while the veterans mentor Petey until he is ready or unless the trade for someone who will be an even better leader.
  7. I honestly don't understand why I have to explain it so many times to people. There is more to being a captain than scoring points and/or winning faceoffs. Yes Bo is having a career year, but no he is not a strong leader. I really don't know how people can't see that, all I can think is most people commenting on here have never actually played a sport at a compete level.
  8. Early contender for post of the year right here! Thank you for your valuable contribution.
  9. If this was an isolated incident I would never have said anything... But there are countless examples of Bo refusing to get involved physically. Hitting, scrums, scraps, standing up for players, standing up for himself. Before anyone twists my words, I don't expect Bo to be Reaves, or fight a guy like Reaves. I know that's not his game, but I've played for years and I've had some great captains and some not so great captains. What I can tell you is if I was a teammate of his I would be disappointed and uninspired by him on the ice. Maybe in the dressing room he is a leader, but he is missing a very key component to leadership on the ice and that's true passion, and the ability to get caught up in the moment for the sake of your team or teammates. To your point, I agree he was handed the captaincy too early and it placed an unnecessary burden on him and that's not his fault. But he had an opportunity to grow into the role or play it out, and I don't think he grew into it. I do think the team moral and the lack of team toughness or pushback is affected by the missing on ice passion to lead.
  10. If anyone needs more examples of why this team needs a leadership change, look no further than the last minute of the 3rd. Garland gets nailed right in the chops in a situation where hockey players know what they are doing. Garlands hands are tied and Sergachev decks him right in front of our captain. What does Horvat do when he sees his linemate and guy who has 2 goals in 2 games get cheap shotted. Absolutely friggin nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Same thing he did when Hoglander got nailed and Horvat was right beside him, except that time Horvat just skated away. It makes me sick to watch this. Yes he scores goals, yes he is probably a nice guy, but he is gutless and leaves his teammates exposed and left laying on the ice. I'm over it.
  11. I'm with you, I guess it also depends on the return for Kuz vs. what he is asking for contract wise. Without those two variables it's a moot point. I mean if he wants the $6m/year bridge deal being rumoured you have to move him. Likewise if some team gets desperate and offers a late 1st, then you have to move him. But if he is willing to do a $4.5m/yr bridge, that's a solid deal and Canucks should hesitate to sign. Of all the players I want to see moved for assets he is the last one on my list to go. But we shall see.
  12. I think your drastically underestimating the value of his very low cap hit to playoff teams. Many of which are up against the cap and would otherwise never be able to wrangle in a 30 goal scorer at the deadline. Kuz's value isn't just that teams will WANT him, his value is that teams can actually AFFORD him. That's a big factor to consider and will make a lot of teams reconsider his value when putting together an offer. Remember, once the dominoes start falling and a teams rival picks up an asset, things start to get desperate. That's when values go up!
  13. I think your last paragraph has to be the more likely of scenarios. The Canucks haven't moved a single star player since Ryan Kelser was traded what? 10 years ago? It shows that 3 different management groups have not been able to make any significant moves besides ones that actually set the team back. There's no way that collectively Allvin, the AGMs and trader Jim can all collectively be this bad at their jobs. If it ownership I wish some old crotchety guy like trader Jim would just quit and in his exit press conference just gaslight Aqualini as an owner... If that is indeed what is going on
  14. I think you are selling Kuz short on the 3rd round pick. His salary is ideal, especially if we retained some salary. He will be a 30 goal scorer this year. Even as a rental I think you would be surprised what he might pull in. Of all the 30 goal scorers who might hit the market at the trade deadline, I guarantee he is the only one less than $2m. and a little retention wont make a difference for the nucks this year. What would Carolina pay to add a 30 goal scorer with an $900k cap hit if they thought it would push them over Boston?
  15. All logical thoughts and statements. I'm with you. However it would seem the canucks organization has always managed to do the opposite of what they maybe should or could have done! I don't think I've ever pushed harder for a team to get rid of good players, but the reality is we have seen exactly what our players can do and it ain't much right now. So lets make some trades and get this party started!
  16. I really like the guy and how he plays. I'm really on the fence about whether we keep him or move him. To me it depends on what we get back on guys like Horvat, Schenn or Garland. If we can add enough futures moving those guys, then I'm ok hanging onto a guy like Kuz. Also considering the russian connection is important with Podz still coming up. But really if trading Kuz gives us a home run return, you have to pull the trigger.
  17. Honestly I'd be willing to move all 3 for just future considerations. None of them are performing where we need them to be and their free'd up cap space is worth it IMHO. So as long as we aren't giving away any assets to move those guys, then I'm good with getting nothing in return
  18. Agree. This release is not news as the nucks were going to make an offer either way. The second part is it could easily be posturing to increase the bidding war. If the messaging is "Canucks working to sign Kuz" then other teams know they will likely need to up their offer.
  19. Wow.... Your first paragraph clearly clearly solidified my point about you adding your own narrative to things in order to spin it in your mind. Didn't say either of the comments you put in quotations. Not even close. I'll leave you with a real quote and won't reply again. "It is a very dangerous thing to confuse speaking your mind with speaking the truth." Have a nice day. It's almost Friday!
  20. Well now you're just making it all about you and playing the victim.
  21. No no! You can't see yourself anywhere, it's not your choice. You must wait until you are put in your place by someone who is more righteous than thee.
  22. Culturalist! Hey humans we got a culturalist over here! Get him! Or her! Or they or them or it or that.
