Thanks for posting. Man it frees up a lot of money, but knowing we need to pay a player to replace him it's likely we break even. But if we break even and the player who replaces him is better on the ice, then technically it could be the right move. Would hate for this management team to buy out OEL and then walk next year without having a solid plan, and leave this team even worse than they found it!

Canucks Management "NO-SHOW's" at STH/Memebers only meeting.

Also after doing some research, the girl chipmunks are actually called "chippettes". So I do believe if the next person refers to the group as Allvin and the Chippettes then I think it is both politically correct but also culturally accurate. So win win! -

I'm not an arbiter of equality, I was merely stating that I don't view myself as sexist, and am a firm believer that women as a sex are capable of many of the same achievements as men. I want it on the record so to speak. Now, because we are two men (I'm assuming, and no, it's not because your a Dr. Lol) arguing about whether a comment regarding girls/women is sexist, I reached out and had my wife read the post. I intentionally didn't prepare her ahead of time that there may or may not be a sexist comment. I wanted to see her reaction. She did not acknowledge the word girls in any way. Her take away was that management is gutless and failed the fans in that scenario. When I asked her to go back and look at what was written and whether she viewed it as sexist her answer was a flat no. She felt it is not written in a way to intentionally imply that the fact they are women and referred to as girls means that's why they are being called out. She saw it was calling out all of management as a whole because Allvin is included. However she explained that there could be those who would look at that and see it as sexist, but they would have to add an additional narrative to support that view. Some people don't even realize they are creating the narrative, others do it intentionally. Her view is that those who intentionally add a narrative to a comment in order to draw out negativity are as much a problem in today's society, as the people who go around making actual terrible comments. Then there are those who are just easily offended and take things personal even when it has nothing to do with them. Anyways, we can agree to disagree, but at the end of the day I don't think either of us feel adding the word girls was done because the OP is sexist. So if you don't believe the intent was from a place of evil, then what are you trying to gain by trying to push the comment in that direction? And that my friend is the root of cancel culture. When people decide they personally don't like it even though it has nothing to do with them and therefore the world must also know and be as outraged as them. As an edit, I'll add something interesting. My wife is high up in her professional career. During the discussion of sexism in the work force, she said of all the times she has experienced sexism in the workplace, it was 90% from other women. Obviously not the case for all, but still interesting. -

You're right, its belittling, but belittling and diminishing a group of people or individuals based on their performance isn't sexist, regardless of the sex of the people. Adding the word "girls" in doesn't automatically mean that their weak performance is because they are girls. perhaps you need to view things differently and not go looking for the bad guy in everything. Again, I ask the question. If the OP had said Allvin and the chipmunk boys, or rather lets say "Little man" Allvin and the chipmunks, would you have felt the immediate need to call that sexist against Allvin or men in general? Listen, I'm all for equality for women, and I absolutely whole heartedly believe a women's knowledge and experience in the field of sports business (or really anything else) can be equal to the greatest men. But I'm sorry, saying Allvin and the chipmunk girls, when in fact they are girls just isn't sexist unless you choose to put your own inferences or own spin on it that simply isnt there, which in my mind means you are perpetuating and more a part of the problem then the OP -

You're way off base here. By calling the women "girls" instead of women, it is making a joke out of their performance as AGM's, which may or may not be warranted. No different than if the AGM's were boys and he said "chipmunk boys". It implies that these AGM's seem to be along for the ride, towing the line. Which so far I haven't seen evidence of the contrary. Or would you still be on your soapbox if he had said chipmunk boys? me thinks not. So is it more of a double standard? Are you saying It's ok to criticize or make fun of men by making them seem less, but it is considered sexist if you do it towards women? Or is it that you feel a little sorry for them for being criticized and made fun of? If thats the case, then perhaps your sensitivity towards them is not seeing them as the powerful talented women you say they are... in which case it would appear that your view is that they should be treated differently, or put another way, your inability to allow for jokes and criticism of women would make your perception of the situation sexist? Don't overlook the fact that Allvin is also made fun of here. but thats ok right? -

Really? I mean if the OP had said just "Allvin and the chipmunks" that would have been fine I'm assuming? But stating that the AGM's are "girls" is sexist? Are we not supposed to acknowledge that they are women? Because I'm pretty sure we acknowledge that Allvin is in fact a man. If our AGM's were all men and he said "chipmunk boys" would that be sexist? Also since the "chipmunks" in real life ARE boys, perhaps the OP needed to state that in this joke the chipmunks are girls in order to avoid confusion and make sure the joke lands. AND if you're worried it implies that the "chipmunk girls" are somewhat subordinate to Allvin, i think is the reality both in the joke scenario and as characters. They are AGM's to his GM, just like the character Allvin is the father figure to the chipmunks. I mean I get what you're trying to infer and in todays politically correct world you will have some people seeing it from that angle.. but come on man, don't perpetuate the over exaggerated pendulum swing. I'm sure the AGM's who happen to be women () are no more offended than Allvin would be if they saw the joke. You have to reach pretty deep in order to find anything sexist about the little comment. But I guess it's easier to just call someone or something sexist without thinking because you know, cancel culture. -
Would you make this trade? [Proposal]
JayDangles replied to CanucksJay's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Not necessarily. There's more to a rebuild than having some key players in the right demographic. There's also having a cabinet stocked with picks, and being free from long term anchor contracts. The problem is that we have guys like OEL, Miller and Myers that we are currently stuck with, and IMHO none of those guys can be moved without giving more than we get. Then you add in an owner who seems to steer the ship. If we were able to make the decision to move guys like Horvat, Kuz, Schenn for picks and solid prospects then if a rebuild is 5 years I think we go from year zero to year 2 overnight. -

Maybe, I'd definitely have to consider it. But I'm leaning towards no At the end of the day, it's not to say Bedard isn't worth it. He is another one of those rare generational talents. But he is only 1 person. He is one bad hit away from a concussion or a bad knee on knee hit away from major surgery. Despite how good he is, stripping the canucks of our two best young offensive threats, respective to their positions and a year without a first round pick would do a lot of harm to this team. In my mind, having Hughes, Petey, Podz and whoever our first round pick is this year, in a very good draft year just doesn't equal Bedard. but again, this one made me think -
(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller

Coincidence? -
As players like Virtanen have shown us, it doesn't matter that you have speed, skill and toughness what matters is that you use all 3 consistently and so that they each compliment each other. Always a waste when you see a player with all 3 but its what's between the ears that's missing.

I disagree mostly, not entirely. But mostly. I think salary cap plays more of a role now than it ever has, and as a result good players who have huge price tags are valued way less than they used to. Millers contract is basically 10% of every teams payroll. That's very scary for every team. -

Oh good, then next year we can all sit around and complain about management signing a guy to a retirement contract based solely around his one single season where he shattered his own records and now we're hoping some team can help bail us out of this mistake. Hmmmmm.. no thanks. -

JayDangles replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Basically the only scenario that is realistic is exactly what the OEL trade was, but the roles are reversed for us. Only way we move Miller is if it's for 1-3 players who have 1-3 years left on bad contracts and we just have to wait it out. Anyone who thinks Miller will net us actual quality players or picks is dreaming. -
My biggest concern is for some reason between the two GMs involved in a trade it always feels like our GM isn't the one in the driver's seat. We are never in a position of power. I'm fearful they will somehow screw up the Horvat trade too. I truly hope that I am undervaluing these guys and other teams actually want them, but I'm preparing for a disappointing trade deadline/off season
-
Well neither of them are living up to their contract really (I'm judging JT against his upcoming contract). Boes has 6 goals in 29 games. That a 15 goal pace. And whether Millers attitude is a factor or just media fodder, other teams are taking note. If the team that signed him long term is trying to move him before his contract even kicks in, then I doubt teams will even offer a low ball bid for him. I'm just saying, IMHO this new management combined with poor player performance has screwed this team worse than most people realize
-
Honestly Boes and Miller have negative value. It would cost us Hughes as the add on just to move those contracts! Like it or not, this team is stuck with Miller. Maybe we can move Boes for a much lesser player, just to free up money, but both players are undesirable to every team in the league including the Canucks. Need to face the facts.

[Rumour] Ryan Merkley requests trade from Sharks

When the team that drafted him in the first round is happy to accommodate a trade request that should immediately raise some red flags. -

Also it's Miller who keeps coughing up the puck, not Horvat.
